Seamus322 ... ahh... shh...'n tell nobody this... but the secret is... that there is only the crossroads... so... GOD BLESS EVERYONE BLESS EVERYTHING ALWAYS AMEN
Seamus322 There appears to be a slight suspicion that the whole story was a device of Son House for the purpose of whisky acquirement! Apparently he, Bob Johnson, wasn’t very good, disappeared for 6 months and came back brilliant. Similar tales are told about Bob Dylan and Charlie Parker. Parker claimed it was practising 15 hours a day. I think it is safe to assume something similar, with perhaps a good player to learn from, may be said about the other two. Not very sorry to be a party pooper! lol
Robert Johnson on fire: “You told me only people who sell their soul could play like that!” Satan: “Hey dont look at me buddy some people are just natural born shredders.”
Speaking of the devil, you'll find this from no less an authority than Jesus in the Gospel of John "He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." So if you make a deal with devil, well . . . don't be surprised if it's all a lie.
I honestly think stuff like this is harder to play than shredding solos. The timing and accuracy to preform a song like this as well as he does with no muted out strings or buzzing takes a lot of practice. Plus the great singing, Rocked it
@@sixslinger9951 I agree with you, but shredding comes in so many ways. Some more difficult than others. To shred with style... that's really hard and most can't do it even with practice. This stuff takes a lot of practice, playing fast is not that hard actually.
@@EdwardPhillipsRoots I've played guitar for 20 years, play an ibanez jem, shred out Yngwie and Vai licks all day long, but this right here stopped me dead in my tracks! Your finger-picking style and crisp phrasing are not easy to learn. This is a breath of fresh air for me.
You nailed all the offbeat random full-on soul that Robert johnson brought. Excellent job. You nailed the sound on that parlor guitar and your voice was right out of the '30s. I'm a guitarist playing 30 years and you impressed me. Fantastic.
Check this one out. Hammond has some other similar covers. They really capture the heart and essence better than anything else I've heard. ruclips.net/video/bv8w-oJ-eWE/видео.html
Yeh fantastic to hear, sadly other artists have put their own slant on this song and ruined it even the great Eric Clapton, it just doesn't sound right on an electric guitar.
I have heard this song by the great late Robert Johnson many times and often wondered if any other artist could come near to his actual style, over the years I've heard lots of other artists sing this song even the great Eric Clapton but even he never got the right mood of the song and also regards the guitar play but that's where it ends, after listening to this guy I'm absolutely amazed at the content, this guys got it spot on, this is a rare talent and should be appreciated, who knows he could be be the Robert Johnson incarnate, yeh and one more thing I'm in awe.
Damn bro, I've been listening to EVERY SINGLE note of that song on the 2 disc set of his shit since High school (99') and you literally hit EVERYTHING he hit on the original track, I'm honestly impressed and I'm a huge music snob. Legendary buddy, never stop
Damn..............makes a feller not want to pick his guitar up after watching this. I have seen the Master. All I hope for is that you get back ten fold the amount of joy you give people. You certainly made my Sunday morning a happy one.
It's not that I think everyone should like the song or the great CBG playing,. I'm all for thumbs up when I really like something, but the thumbs down just seems like unnecessary negativity when it's on a video of a musical performance. If you don't like a performance, just keep it moving.
Agreed 100%. I've finally decided to learn blues guitar, at the age of 60, my true love. Those buzzing/flat strings, man! Aaaargh! But this gentleman nails it. He has got THE BLUES! Needless to say, I've subscribed. Thank you!
This is why I refuse to say that so & so is the best. There are too many great players like Edward who need to be heard and appreciated, not compared and rated. Great job Edward, I enjoyed it and shared it with my friends.
I played with Johnny Shines once, he travelled with Robert, he would love this. He told me Robert had PTSD and anxiety attacks, he said that's why all the original bluesmen rambled.
You just can't get any more authentic than that without being Robert Johnson himself. This was more than a cover, it was almost a reproduction. REALLY NICE ! ! !
I’m from England and am only just discovering delta blues and I can’t stop listening to this , please release a lesson or at least a tab ! I’d be very greatful, top work mate

I took a look at this title and scoffed. Nobody can cover Robert Johnson. EVER. Then I watched it and was BLOWN AWAY!!! You are amazing, on point, doing the man justice and adding your own hoodoo!
Absolutely love this, felt as though RJ was with us in this version, wow. Truly something special that everyone should listen to. Blues is where everything started.
I'll just echo what the vast majority of the comments say, a truly inspired performance that paid respect to Johnson's original arrangement while also coming off like pure spontaneity in a juke joint at night. Those small body parlor guitars we're so perfect for fingerpicked blues and slide; that boxy mid-range honk adding to the snapping strings and bent 7ths on the bottom strings...badass brother.

for sure.. shredding is like.. the biceps of guitar... everyone thinks it means something... in reality? this here..
It also sounds way more soulful and badass.
