Seamus322 There appears to be a slight suspicion that the whole story was a device of Son House for the purpose of whisky acquirement! Apparently he, Bob Johnson, wasn’t very good, disappeared for 6 months and came back brilliant. Similar tales are told about Bob Dylan and Charlie Parker. Parker claimed it was practising 15 hours a day. I think it is safe to assume something similar, with perhaps a good player to learn from, may be said about the other two. Not very sorry to be a party pooper! lol

Speaking of the devil, you'll find this from no less an authority than Jesus in the Gospel of John "He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies." So if you make a deal with devil, well . . . don't be surprised if it's all a lie.

Now that is what I’m talking about, pure blues at it’s best. Thank you and may Mr. Johnson be looking down on you and smiling.

I went to the crossroad, fell down on my knees
I went to the crossroad, fell down on my knees
Asked the Lord above, "Have mercy, now, save poor Bob if you please"
Down at the crossroad, I tried to flag a ride
I went to the crossroad, I tried to flag a ride
Nobody seem to know me, babe, everybody pass me by
I went to the crossroad, I looked East and West
I went to the crossroad, I looked East and West
I didn't have no sweet woman, in to my distress
Down at the crossroad, risin' sun goin' down
Down at the crossroad, risin' sun goin' down
I believe to my soul, now, poor Bob is sinkin' down
You can run, run, run, tell my friend Willie Brown
You can run, run, run, tell my friend, boy, Willie Brown
Standing at the crossroad, babe, leave, I'm sinkin' down
