Interesting. Lisbon, Portugal has many secret/hidden Chinese restaurants as well but theirs are kind of illegal and operate out of apartments as opposed to public commercial spaces like this one. Cool video. 👍
Tosh T literally! Ive been in one in Lisbon, in the many level building, which is close to the main square. It was amazing experience! The food is awesome, the ppl that work there too.
Been there as well. Felt just like somewhere in mainland China!
Tosh T wut

What better way to eat authentic Chinese food then flying to Madrid.
Or you could fly to china
Or you could go to Chinatown ppl
It’s not authentic man, I’m telling you, this is the equivalent of American Chinese food
If you go to LA there's the San Gabriel Valley
Or you can come to my brother-in-law's house. My sister married a Chinese man. Really good cook imo.
This Chinese Restaurant, called "El Chino de la plaza españa" because of it's location, is not a secret, that a lot of people that go there everyday, but it is pretty hidden. Also, it is traditional, but far from be the best in town. If someone need tips, let me know.
You do know that use of 'secret' here is just to be a bit dramatic?
Yo también lo suelo llamar '' chinoplazaspaña"
I think ate there in a Chinese restaurant when i was in Madrid in 1970 and it's near Plaza De La Espana.
I never encountered this restaurant when living in Madrid! I always went to two Chinese restaurants near Plaza Santo Domingo and Plaza del Callao where I lived. I'll give this place a try when I move back to Madrid!
How I miss Madrid :(
You should totally make a video about Hambara in Sofia, Bulgaria. Its also in a very discreet location and has an amazing charm and interesting history!
This channel is growing so incredibly fast!!! I already was here at around 500k subs. I'm so happy to know this channel! Keep up the good work please.

YESSSSSS!! That restaurant is awesome. Their food is always sooo delicious!! If you ever come to Madrid you have to go there!! ❤️
This is hilarious! I go there all the time, it's incredible. The most delicious Chinese food I've ever tasted
2:05 interesting how the left paper is in Korean not chinese
Evan Park yeah i noticed that too probably to serve some Korean customers
It’s write in Korean Chinese and Japanese to :D
Something about province maybe?
No, I was there several times, they just translated the menu in English, Spanish, Japanese and Korean.
it’s Chinese, Korean and Japanese
I love your videos great big story, keep it up! FIRST!!
@Dontreadmypicture ...interesting...
OMG I'm so shocked I got to watch that in this channel. I live in Madrid and the key to this restaurant's success is the location and the price (most of the menu is under 5€). Also the service is the fastest ever. You literally get your meal in under 3 minutes. I recently found another "secret chinese restaurant" which isn't on google maps and serves incredible chinese food that doesn't taste like MSG and isn't super greasy like this one. It's in the corner opposite to the Desperate Literature bookstore. It's about 10€ per person. The only con is that the service is really slow (but super nice), but the food tastes so honest I feel it's worth the wait
Edit: Found out it's called Xiao Man
Madrid is such a cool city! You're an inspiration for my channel. Keep it up :)
More of these pleaseee 🤗
Awesome story! Love the couple
I like it when there's comments and there's 2 people narrating. Please do more!
I took notes and got to the restaurant and it was so tiring and their food was amazing!
I've just been there. It's really nice. I had the dumplings and hand pulled noodle soup. The soup is a massive bowl enough for two. I couldn't finish it, sadly. ✌️
When you’re bilingual and can understand both languages
Brah you don’t impress me with that, you ain’t shit. I literally understand the 3 languages: Spanish, Chinese and English
@@jimmylei6798 calm down he’s not bragging or anything

这个看起来真的贼拉垮。。。跟你妈panda express一样
Never thought I'd see a video about my family's hometown specialties. Not that surprised though, it is true that I have many relatives living there, I'm actually wondering if my family doesn't know these people lol
There's also a really cool secret Chinese bar in Madrid!
Where?
I am a chinese girl who lives in Madrid, the food they make is from my hometown and I am familiar with it. There are way better places in Madrid, most chinese people would either go to usera or other restaurants in the city centre
For example, which is the best one from the center? im living here and looking forward to eat at some of those places
You should try, Jin Jin!! Its best Chinese restaurant i’ve ever tried in Madrid🔥🔥🔥 the taste was sooo good and i came back 2 times in one day 🤣🙌🏽
omg I'm going to Madrid tomorrow! I've been craving Chinese food too... this just might be fate
Will try it
When you don’t have to read the subtitles, because you already know Chinese👍
Apple Defender relatable, it feels pretty damn good
Apple Defender even better when you spot bad translation lol
Casper Guo When the pronunciations are screwed up... zeezxhiang...
Lol relatable
When you don’t care
This was a really cool vid
That editing tho👏👏👌👌👍
Due to this video, I just went in and got some food here today. Fucking. Delicious. Thanks Great Big Story :)
0:26 I thought the girl slapped the other boys face
I didn't know American airline flies from London to Madrid :)
I’m so thankful for being born in Madrid
That was fun :)
what a charming video haha
The translation for di xia shi is basement. Great vid.!
There's so many people. Doesn't look like a secret to me. Guess I'll just cook. I'm chinese
thats so cool I live in Madrid so i'll definitely go if you ppl want ill inform you of my review afterwards xd
HAHA I loved how the subtitles called the Spanish diners "foreigners". Aren't this couple the foreign ones inside of Spain?
No so secret now haha
Timelesstune I am from Madrid and I can tell you it isnt that secret
You would expect the menu to be in chinese and spanish, but no, it’s in chinese and korean! 2:07 😂
is Korean and Japanese actually
This is actually a nice vid
Is not that good, they tend to use too much oil . BUT, they usually are open and it’s good food when you’re partying around the center. Also, great hangover food!!
Most northern style Chinese food use a lot of oil, it's just how they are made.
I literally spent two years looking for it, worth it though
how do you guys cover your costs
2:05 The Chinese menus are translated into Korean and Japanese lol
There's probably 15 to 20 equally good Chinese restaurants in my hometown in California. And go a little bit further to San Francisco and there's entire neighborhoods tens of thousands of Chinese and hundreds of restaurants. Or I guess I can go twice the distance from me to China to Spain to eat at a hole in the wall Underground. LMAO
There's a lot of chinese in Madrid too. There's even a Commercial district (Cobo Calleja) where all the bussines are chinese with the brand names in mandarin 🤷🏼♂️ Don't know if is even bigger in California (San Francisco/ L.A) but Madrid have a lot of chinese population and bussines.
I legit thought it was under the water fountain and I was like "Oh. This is really interesting."
The filming style at Great Big Story reminds a bit of Wes Anderson :3
LOL they wish.
Hello from Barcelona.
Cool my home town
There are literally thousands of places like this in Canada, I guess having one in Europe is expected.
Where can I get a job like this??? 😍😍
SALUDOS FROM SPAIN ESPAÑA , ARRIBA ESPAÑA Y LATINOAMERICA
wow a video about somewhere i have actually been, thats bizarre
Mike T Same haha
The hand pull noodle is call 炍面 I'll call it 10/6 for a avage
Wait.... aren't the menus on 2:07 in Korean (left side) AND Japanese (right side)?
What's with the korean on the menu?
So Korean customers can read it more easily!? There's also one written in Spanish to the left and one in Japanese to the right.
Maybe the Chinese is just hanja
Wow
Funny how i was there 3 Years ago, esting the noodles
Are all of their videos centered like, wes anderson?
2:12 "that the foreigners really liked it"
wait a minute...
Foreigners to the country silly. In Canada we have a shit ton of Asians. Doesnt mean they are foreigners. They have been here for many generations.
LONG NOSE ZLATAN lao wai translates to foreigners but most Chinese use it to refer to anyone who is not Chinese. Some people get really triggered but we aren't being racist, it's just the language
I’m honestly bothered by that interpretation as well.
Why can’t they translate it to “non-Chinese people” instead? Calling Spaniards “foreigners” in their own country is just insulting.
at 0:33 mark I already knew which one was the video referring
huh, theres a korean translation of the menu there too
So where is it
I’m from Madrid and I never knew about this 😂
I know they say it's called "The Underground", but to me, it just sounds like "basement". Or maybe it's cellar?
Lol what, at 1:09 the writing on the left is read as 'Touhou' in japanese
how can i apply to working with you guys ?
Btw for anyone who wants to go it’s too late , the whole place is closed ☹️
OMG i think my friends took me to eat here once
*Sobs* Im hungry now !
Ya both better add more tables
what tie are they open?
I've eaten here!
It no longer exists as of two years ago :/
Excuse me, i want that red notebook, thank u
i don't think it's a secret anymore.
Tengo que ir 😂
Holy crap i live right next to it XD (ive been there before but cant eat cause i am celiac, the food looks great though)
do they speak spanish to communicate to the customers or..
1:37 I love what she's wearing
are they from zhejiang wenzhou
It is not hidden if it is always full
My parrents are from Qing tian (青田)
You took a concord
How do they keep their business hidden?
Guys your videos are great, but I think the narration thing going on plus the staff acting is just not to good. I felt a preschool teacher was telling me a story
But great content as always 👍🏼
I eat there!
I know of a secret place where they make brownies disappear, it's called the ______ House
2:49 her hands accidentally touched "somethin"
Why not ask your friends in Madrid to visit the shop? 😮😮
damn, the menu is in Spanish, Korean, Chinese and Japanese don't see any English though
Omg its zhou not zuu.
Lul they are my parents friends although I’ve never been at their restaurant
2:07 korean hangeul
As opposed to Swahili Hangeul?
Very buzzfed styled
It’s amazing that they call the people living there as “foreigners”
The word they use ("laowai") is usually used to refer to anyone not Chinese, so foreigners isn't exactly an accurate translation in this case
老外 lol, but I'm sure why you know they call us that even in another country
it's not racist, i know becos i am, not a laowai that is
It doesn't directly translate to foreigners. It implies foreign to China. Catchall phrase to refer to non-chinese.
But that's less interesting and controversial.
So just stick with what you had in mind.
Actually it does directly translate to Foreigner. Specifically constant Foreigner. And is used exclusively by Chinese to refer to foreigners. Except that they are the foreigners in this case. And in China the term is considered at least fully to clean correct as the government and media play it down and try to mitigate its use. It's derogatory. They should call themselves that.
yooloong zoo... whats that...
What a cute couple.
that’s where I’m from :D
Your videos are great, but the narration can get super cheesy at times.
