Lol I can't even believe that it's been 7 years since we recorded this gameplay, this sure brings back memories XD Thanks guys for all the support on this video ^^
Wow! This game is so underrated! The developers made sure that at 7:05 part the ships movements was saved to play at 1:06:35 ! Granted that at the beginning there could be no way that they would know how top part was going to play but still... this blew my mind off!
I beat this with my dad as a kid. Watching it now, it's utterly insane that I was ever able to beat this game. It's not the sorta game I grew up with. The closest thing would have been 1942, but that was still much less intense than this. The future time warp thing always stuck with me. I didn't realize that it was going to happen like that and the way it memorized exactly how you played and replayed it before your eyes was utterly brilliant. What a special game.
it's a real disappointment if people knew & ignored one of the most important things in this game which is co-op :) good thing you're one of the first people in my video to mention it when you saw that it had 2 player mode :)
@@johnvida3426 Both worked on by Treasure X) Also it was done to give you a reason to keep playing for maybe more experience and also improving your skills before going for harder difficulty later on once you're satisfied with enough messes to improve.
Damn good run. When I saw you two use interlocking fire to take out those two carriers and stop incoming fighters at 1:12, I knew I was watching a true team at work. That's how it's done.

I don't know of any shmups that have it in quite so many ways though. Like when the screen tilts to dump green goo on you, or when walls close in and you have to make it to the safe spot in time, or just about any part of the asteroid level. That's why Gradius 5 feels a lot more like an adventure to me than shmups that use only bullets.

I'd forgotten how good the music in this game is. I just looked up who did it (Hiroshi Sakimoto), and it turns out he did the killer music in Final Fantasy XII too. Amazing work.
Back in the 80s, when there was no quick save, quick load, each time a bullet passes by my ship, i used flinch !! LLooll. but man I beat the game on Nemesis 1, 2, Salamander, and 3. it was hard as hell, but it was fun too. miss those days...Good playing guys, you are really skilled...

thinking that the rotating option ability to be overpowered isn't absolutly correct since it got weaknesses :) also - in a war at year 8010 - it's very essential for an available technology to deal with weapons overheating to keep using it as long as possible before cooling down for the next attack X)
Rotating type needs wisdom & clear judgement, it can protect you but not all times, true it got a limited attacking range - but depending on your usage you can make it a double-edged sword, the direction type can be counted as a mass destruction weapon, but since you can't move when pointing the laser until you release the R1 button after aiming in a certain degree wil make it a weakness, each type needs a different kind of techniques to master it's usability :)
@aliultimate009 Thanks for this awesome demo video of Gradius V. This is one of my all time classic, side-scrolling favs from ps2. I still play it from time to time in PCSX2. @@aliultimate009 Thanks for the info. I did played this game today for a while and YES, you're right about the credits increase. The credits increase after about an hour or so of play. I played for about two hours, this game is addictive as hell, and did noticed an increase on the credits twice. The only thing that sucks is that after I'm killed and all of my credits are used up, PCSX2 auto-saves the progress but that doesn't mean that the next time around I start at the last stage I left off from. It does gives me the option to replay that stage if I want to but, if I manage to kill the boss it doesn't progress onto the next level, it just brings me back to the main menu. I hear on the Gradius wiki that the boss actually kills you when you don't defeat him in time. I was surprised to hear this. I searched for videos on this but no answer. When you are done with the other requests and are bored, could you maybe upload a video on surviving against the boss barrages without killing him so that I may see him time out?
aliultimate009 hehe, was very enjoyable, and the annotations made me imagine you two talking in mid of the gameplay. I am playing Gradius III in a SNES emulator in my PC and my phone again, realising how much i like this game since childhood and how konami was a badass for hardcore games for this genre. I wanna get a PS2 emulator to play Gradius V now
aliultimate009 yeah, the SNES era of konami was a hardcore test of skills, like Contra, sunset riders, tmnt and so on. The soundtrack also was very rad. We only can hope that they return into something, meanwhile revive the old school :)
If we talk about Gradius - actually the SNES is the easiest in the series X) As i know SNES only has Gradius III. The truly fairly difficult classics are the MSX titles when played on higher loops which are : 1- Gradius / Nemesis MSX. 2- Salamander MSX. 3- Gradius 2 / Nemesis 2 MSX. 4- Nemesis 3 The Eve of Destruction / Gofer No Yabou Episode 2. And exceptionally since this title right now can be concidered a classic : Gradius Gaiden ( In Gradius Collection for PSP - without slow down mode )
It's a CPU controlled ship :) But i won't say how did it showed up as another Vic Viper until you finish this video because it'll be a spoiler to you X)
I don't get it. Why is this recommended for me even though I watched AND liked this long ago? I like to see new shmup videos and not ones I saw, liked, and downloaded already. Well I'm not mad. Quite happy actually because since it led me here, I like to say: "Hi Zero! It's been a *LONG* time! How have you been doing since the last time I came back to this channel?" I see you are still into your "Real Racing Simulator" (I don't think that's the official genre name so correct me) games like Gran Turismo and then there's the Arcade Racing like Ridge Racer.
+Almar AZL I'm fine thanks X) Yes - Motorsport is in my blood forever XD Real driving simulator is the official name for it :) About recommendation - true and I agree with you on that ... man - I can't believe it's been since 2009 that RUclips had started to get messed up 😤 I wish for the day where RUclips will go back to how it used to be in 2008 with better features than the current once
Man it's nice to see you still active unlike myself. I still want to upload the stuff I like but I don't have much time to do so. Many things are in the way. Real driving simulator - ok. Thanks! Man do I agree with you Zero! Really miss the formats back then. They can try new things but at least give us the option to have the old features or something like that.
I think I remember that fleshy level with the spike things coming out, though I don't know if its a false memory or not, but was there a level like this in any of these games where it looked like a bony flesh monster you flew through or is it just my child hood mind making that level look creepier than it was?
Very nice run. Always fun to see co-op's of these kinds of games...even if you guys do use the conspicuously same Weapon Edit. :P Anyway, good stuff! Keep it up.
slyroad Unbelievably skilled ? XP To be honest this was between advanced & rookie gameplay X) We made many mistakes in this gameplay X) But anyway thanks X)
Did anyone realize that when the protagonists got two T-301s they could have just charged in separately into the two sides of the mothership and take out the Gofer brain without having to go through 6-level-worth of trouble to time warp? Biggest plot hole of the Gradius series XD But still awesome game and awesome 2P playthrough :D
You do realize that a second player is considered not canon to the story and just a way to let both players enjoys the same experience ? 😅 Also - even if they both destroyed it - the timeline event forces them to make an endless loop because the ship in the present which came from the future is already around at the same time during the next 5 stages which is why the pilot planned the idea AFTER witnessing the ship again at the end of the game. It's a mind boggling time paradox.
@@aliultimate009 Yes I do understand that and I played through the game with another friend before. I'm just wondering that if I were in the protagonist team first time going through the journey, only to realize in the end that we could have just taken out the ship by splitting up the team...LOL
You said it 😆 Realized after reaching the end 😆 Is exactly the logical reaction since the Vic Viper pilot will always be surprised since it's the first time experience for him at the beginning of the game based on the story 😅
You're welcome 😁 I'm actually not good in japanese, but i'm trying what i can 😌 Loop 10 is actually the max difficulty where the game difficulty locks. Because i tried loop 11 and higher loops then i noticed that they're the same as loop 10.
14:50 ;) That's so cool. Back in the old days, when 2 Friends played on the same Console. You take the Power Up, i have more Firepower (Contra) You take the Barbeque (Final Fight, SoR) i have more Energy ;) Hey wait for me (Ice Climber :D )
Why isn't this game being ported all over the place? I missed this title on PS2 and would love it to be brought over to the Switch. Love shooters and this looks like one of the best.
how is it the multiple can do a 360 move here and shoot all around but in all the other Gradius gameplays including the hard versions I saw none of the multiples can shoot in all those directions.
Because the Direction Option Type was just introduced in Gradius V to meet the enemies plus the stages pattern in this game :) If this option type was available in the previous releases it will destroy the difficulty balance of the older Gradius titles. In Gradius 2 MSX - Up Laser was a kind of a game killer :) Gradius III SNES it was possible to use spacing option type with 4 options on the whole run. Gradius Gaiden you can customize the order of your weapons selection like making Options as an early selection plus being able to pick 4 different kinds of ships with each of it's own weapons with 4 options which can make it nasty X) In Gradius Gaiden you had round laser for Jade Knight :) Even with the direction option type in Gradius V - the game is still difficult if the Direction Option Type wasn't used wisely
I'd love an HD rerelease of this game. Closest we got outside of emulation was a digital PS3 version which was great but I'm just waiting for the day Konami puts it on all platforms officially in HD, hell remastered in HDR would be phenomenal. Years ago I would've strongly doubted the possibility but surprisingly Konami have more recently been getting their legacy content released in compilations. Even Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games; it's still hard to believe they took the necessary steps to make that one happen.
The PS3 emulation was bad actually. The game response to the buttons has a little lag and there is a glitch which happens against the boss rush on stage 6 against Circle Core when the cage appears.
+Chihaya Gunzou +Chihaya Gunzou I remembered that when i used to play loop by loop - in a single loop the past from the future will only be played once, and once you reach the next loop - the same CPU controlled ship ( rather than you ) shows up on stage 2.
@@aliultimate009 I means do you make a reupload of the video with better quality without change the URL youtube ID of the video and without change the original date of creation ? Like an upgrade. More like: The ideal choice based on the stages designs. If you play on high loops - it is almost impossible to clear all stages on high loops with other than Direction Type.
Nope X) It's Vic Viper T-301 but painted red because if you started as Player 2 - same script will be applied to P2 :) Lord British from Salamander is a totally different ship
Why didn't Konami bother making a Gradius VI? they're letting a classic to just die out..... btw I really hate the asteroid stage I wasted like 2 credits to finish the stage
Take your time to listen to all of the available musics for Gradius V on youtube ... You can compare it's musics to Gradius Gaiden & Gradius IV :) I've listened thankfully to almost all of the Gradius Series OSTs - including side story games & spin offs like ( Salamander & Parodius ) so from that - i can guarantee to you that Gradius V got one of the best sound tracks for the Gradius series :) notice : the artiest for Gradius V's OSTs did also musics for Final Fantasy :)

I see X)
It's been 15 years nearly since the last main title for the Gradius series.
They better make a newer title to continue this series
aliultimate009 yeah, the SNES era of konami was a hardcore test of skills, like Contra, sunset riders, tmnt and so on. The soundtrack also was very rad. We only can hope that they return into something, meanwhile revive the old school :)
If we talk about Gradius - actually the SNES is the easiest in the series X)
As i know SNES only has Gradius III.
The truly fairly difficult classics are the MSX titles when played on higher loops which are :
1- Gradius / Nemesis MSX.
2- Salamander MSX.
3- Gradius 2 / Nemesis 2 MSX.
4- Nemesis 3 The Eve of Destruction / Gofer No Yabou Episode 2.
And exceptionally since this title right now can be concidered a classic :
Gradius Gaiden ( In Gradius Collection for PSP - without slow down mode )
That’s pretty dope ,,, brother n sister duo !!
7:07 Wait...what was with that third ship showing up? Was someone else controlling it?
It's a CPU controlled ship :)
But i won't say how did it showed up as another Vic Viper until you finish this video because it'll be a spoiler to you X)
Heh. I envy you two.
This was very entertaining to watch and read.
Awesome work Zero and Sakura.
I don't get it. Why is this recommended for me even though I watched AND liked this long ago? I like to see new shmup videos and not ones I saw, liked, and downloaded already.
Well I'm not mad. Quite happy actually because since it led me here, I like to say:
"Hi Zero! It's been a *LONG* time! How have you been doing since the last time I came back to this channel?"
I see you are still into your "Real Racing Simulator" (I don't think that's the official genre name so correct me) games like Gran Turismo and then there's the Arcade Racing like Ridge Racer.
+Almar AZL
I'm fine thanks X)
Yes - Motorsport is in my blood forever XD
Real driving simulator is the official name for it :)
About recommendation - true and I agree with you on that ... man - I can't believe it's been since 2009 that RUclips had started to get messed up 😤
I wish for the day where RUclips will go back to how it used to be in 2008 with better features than the current once
🌌🌌🌌🌌🌌✈️
awesome flying enjoyed every min of this play through
Pleasured to now it :)
Thanks :)
I think I remember that fleshy level with the spike things coming out, though I don't know if its a false memory or not, but was there a level like this in any of these games where it looked like a bony flesh monster you flew through or is it just my child hood mind making that level look creepier than it was?
+Michael Morrison
I think you're talking about Salamander X)
Hmmm, they look very similar, maybe I played both of them and got memories mixed up.
Very nice run. Always fun to see co-op's of these kinds of games...even if you guys do use the conspicuously same Weapon Edit. :P Anyway, good stuff! Keep it up.
I see :)
Glad to know it thanks ^^
This game is a masterpiece and those 2 guys are unbelievable skill players
slyroad
Unbelievably skilled ? XP
To be honest this was between advanced & rookie gameplay X)
We made many mistakes in this gameplay X)
But anyway thanks X)
1:00:12 nothing but a good old konami pause sound. Very classic
Just remembered this game, it's awesome for 2 players.
Very entertaining, especially with your occasional notes.
And yes, it's been too long since you've uploaded Gradius V. =)
You did another walkthrough of Gradius V, in 2 player mode? :O Awesome! ^_^
曲がるレーザー、興味深い。
Best shmup of all times.
It's one of the most successful side scrolling shmups due to it's unique system and attractive music with an intriguing stages concepts :)
Man this game is one of the most awesome shooter shumps i have ever seen besides Darius arcade xd 🕹🎮😀👍🏾
From all the experience i gained from other shmups - it is not just one of the best - it is on a class of it's own as a side scroller X)
God damn. Awesome job, you two.
Thanks X)
Did anyone realize that when the protagonists got two T-301s they could have just charged in separately into the two sides of the mothership and take out the Gofer brain without having to go through 6-level-worth of trouble to time warp? Biggest plot hole of the Gradius series XD
But still awesome game and awesome 2P playthrough :D
You do realize that a second player is considered not canon to the story and just a way to let both players enjoys the same experience ? 😅
Also - even if they both destroyed it - the timeline event forces them to make an endless loop because the ship in the present which came from the future is already around at the same time during the next 5 stages which is why the pilot planned the idea AFTER witnessing the ship again at the end of the game.
It's a mind boggling time paradox.
@@aliultimate009 Yes I do understand that and I played through the game with another friend before. I'm just wondering that if I were in the protagonist team first time going through the journey, only to realize in the end that we could have just taken out the ship by splitting up the team...LOL
You said it 😆
Realized after reaching the end 😆
Is exactly the logical reaction since the Vic Viper pilot will always be surprised since it's the first time experience for him at the beginning of the game based on the story 😅
こんな難しいの出来ねぇw
難易度高すぎ
これノーコンテニュークリア
出来る人いるの?
しかし綺麗な画面だな〜
Korewa Loop 1 desu.
Loop 10 Max.
Loop 10 wa muchakucha-desu 😅
Loop 10 is crazy!
Thank you very much for replying in Japanese. It's even more difficult with 10LOOP.
You're welcome 😁
I'm actually not good in japanese, but i'm trying what i can 😌
Loop 10 is actually the max difficulty where the game difficulty locks.
Because i tried loop 11 and higher loops then i noticed that they're the same as loop 10.
14:50 ;) That's so cool. Back in the old days, when 2 Friends played on the same Console. You take the Power Up, i have more Firepower (Contra) You take the Barbeque (Final Fight, SoR) i have more Energy ;)
Hey wait for me (Ice Climber :D )
Why isn't this game being ported all over the place? I missed this title on PS2 and would love it to be brought over to the Switch. Love shooters and this looks like one of the best.
Paul Branwhite
This title ( Gadius V ) is a PlayStation exclusive.
This game was beautiful.. 😎
These guys are freaking pros😍✊
Not really XP
We made many mistakes in this run 😅
@@aliultimate009 Still pros to me. Lol
@@KiryuKazuma36 well ... thanks 😅
how is it the multiple can do a 360 move here and shoot all around but in all the other Gradius gameplays including the hard versions I saw none of the multiples can shoot in all those directions.
Because the Direction Option Type was just introduced in Gradius V to meet the enemies plus the stages pattern in this game :)
If this option type was available in the previous releases it will destroy the difficulty balance of the older Gradius titles.
In Gradius 2 MSX - Up Laser was a kind of a game killer :)
Gradius III SNES it was possible to use spacing option type with 4 options on the whole run.
Gradius Gaiden you can customize the order of your weapons selection like making Options as an early selection plus being able to pick 4 different kinds of ships with each of it's own weapons with 4 options which can make it nasty X)
In Gradius Gaiden you had round laser for Jade Knight :)
Even with the direction option type in Gradius V - the game is still difficult if the Direction Option Type wasn't used wisely
thanks for clearing that up and that explains that. Gradius is good but I stand by Gradius three as the best since it had a nice soundtrack with it.
NP :)
Try Gradius Gaiden & Gradius IV :)
To me they have also a nice OSTs with it :)
i cant believe i watched the whole video..nice man i miss this game.
懐かしい、昔めっちゃやったなぁ
After finishing the first run, did you guys managed to continue the paradox?
Chihaya Gunzou
I think the paradox only occurs on the same loop.
I don't think it will occur again from the future.
Really? It only happens on the first run?
+Chihaya Gunzou
+Chihaya Gunzou
I remembered that when i used to play loop by loop - in a single loop the past from the future will only be played once, and once you reach the next loop - the same CPU controlled ship ( rather than you ) shows up on stage 2.
This video is upload. How she can be in 60fps which appear (wikipedia source) in october 2014 ?
I think the video capture was recording at 60FPS but the PS2 couldn't send 60FPS footage directly to the video capture system ?
@@aliultimate009 I means do you make a reupload of the video with better quality without change the URL youtube ID of the video and without change the original date of creation ? Like an upgrade. I'am french so maybe
www.forbes.com/sites/gordonkelly/2014/10/30/youtube-60fps-video-is-here-and-it-looks-incredible/
This article announce 60fps feature in 2014 so how this video can be in 60fps in 2012

How did you get the edit mode for that game?
beautiful! I love gradius game ever:-)
+Mike Mercado
Glad to know it :)
Like modern 1987 salamander i hope they will create this for next generation of gaming fans
The best players, of the history.
4:24 beautiful XD
That direction Option is OP
More like:
The ideal choice based on the stages designs.
If you play on high loops - it is almost impossible to clear all stages on high loops with other than Direction Type.
The force field miss killed me lol
Maybe you guys already know this but: The Player 2's ship is the Lord British from Salamander
Nope X)
It's Vic Viper T-301 but painted red because if you started as Player 2 - same script will be applied to P2 :)
Lord British from Salamander is a totally different ship
aliultimate009 I've seen Gradius Gaiden, but the Lord British's color reminds me of a Player 2 Vic Viper!
+Anderson Gutierrez Only in Color but the shape is very different :)
aliultimate009 Maybe I found out: The Lord British doesn't have a split front like the Vic Viper.
+Anderson Gutierrez Indeed :)
Why didn't Konami bother making a Gradius VI? they're letting a classic to just die out..... btw I really hate the asteroid stage I wasted like 2 credits to finish the stage
Jaf Fulgencio they wasted such an opportunity of a good series just like they did with metal gear solid
Hey Aliultimate! Long time dude! Nice playthrough!!
What game console is this on???? please tell me all I have is Gradius 3 for the Super Nintendo and I would very much like to have this version please.
PS2 :)
thank you very much :) and now to download it off the psn :)
miguel fajardo NP :)
How did you record this?
Will this ever be released for PC?
I think this is a PS exclusive, but you can play it on an emulator.
It would be nice to have a hack for this game that made your ship the size of its hit box. I know for sure I would be a hell of a lot better at it.
Gotta do it again in loop 10... Man I miss gaming...
Maybe one day they'll finally make a Gradius where the final boss is actually a credible threat.
Dr.Venom from Gradius 2 MSX would like to have a word with you ( giggles ) 😅
Which video capture system?
Option(Multiple) and caption of message are different Japanese Edition. It's cool!
Gradius 3 has the best soundtrack. This one just sounds like a bunch of noise from all directions.
Take your time to listen to all of the available musics for Gradius V on youtube ... You can compare it's musics to Gradius Gaiden & Gradius IV :)
I've listened thankfully to almost all of the Gradius Series OSTs - including side story games & spin offs like ( Salamander & Parodius ) so from that - i can guarantee to you that Gradius V got one of the best sound tracks for the Gradius series :)
notice : the artiest for Gradius V's OSTs did also musics for Final Fantasy :)
背景がすごい!
俺の持ってた沙羅曼蛇とぜんぜん違う!
もしもグラディウス6が出たらいったいどんなグラフィックになるのか胸躍りますよね。
San Pata 6出て欲しいですよね
