    Twisted Metal 2 is my favourite game of all time! Probably have 10,000 hours offline alone. It’s the best in the series imo. I love the characters, levels music and I just love the physics since they feel really aggressive when you hit someone and ram into them. People say Black is the best but it’s too dark and honestly too hard at times because the game is a bit too fast. I do like Black now but it’s a game where you need months of practice.

    As a kid, TM2’s Dark Tooth gave me a few nightmares. Something about a flaming, floating head stalking me and wanting to kill me made my subconscious imagination go haywire.

    Twisted Metal 1 had better aesthetics (not design quality) and much better character balance. Too many of the TM2 characters were gimmicky and one trick ponies. TM2 had character problems in general but the improved commands and nostalgia (and the fact many have not played 1) have people overvaluing 2

    This probably sounds insane, but one of the reasons I love 2 so much entirely comes down to Calypso's design and voice. In my opinion, this is where his character peaked, with the suave, demonic businessman aesthetic with just a hint of childish whimsy. Obviously, I can respect games like Head On and Black for taking the character in new directions and not rehashing what worked before, but 2 is just my absolute favourite interpretation of him.

    You should try Rogue Trip: Vacation 2012. It was made by Singletrac, the creators of the first 2 Twisted metal games, so it plays similarly. Another game also by Singletrac is Critical Depth, like Twisted Metal but with submarines.

  • @Orpheusftw
    @Orpheusftw 2 года назад +1

    Nice video. The first two are definitely some of the best. (Have you tried Rogue Trip, by the same developers as 1/2?)
    My only complaint is that you're reviewing the "graphics" of games you're not actually playing. These butchered, stretched-out, upscaled, emulated abominations may arguably _look_ prettier, but it is far from an authentic representation of the games as we played them.

    • @BlooTeg
      @BlooTeg  2 года назад

      You're correct, I'll try to disclose that but I recommend you ignore that part haha
      the only way I can review the graphics as they were originally is by getting a CRT and a PS1, which is pretty hard to do here these days; but it it helps in any way, I changed the internal resolution, they're not just upscaled or stretched, I used a widescreen hack too so it actually renders more than the original 4:3!
      Oh, and people told me about Rogue Trip, it's the same engine as 2 right? That's very interesting!

    【Fun fact】
    【TM 1】
    1.) The Minion in TM 1 is being driven by a dangerous gang called
    "The Apocalypse 9"
    (there is a deleted cutscene about them.. being inside the Tank )
    So no it's not the same driver. Not a demon like in TM 2 Minion.
    Apparently The Apocalypse 9 gang stole the Government Top Secret tank being developed..
    probably they btoke in a top secret base.. like how CJ did in GTA SA.. either way. Yeah.
    2.) The Tank is called "The XJ 39"
    it was developed by the Government and it's a Top Secret product..
    rumors say that this tank can maneuver better and even drive it with the Driver's mind..
    sounds amazing
    but it was stolen by a dangerous gang.. "The Apocalypse 9" they plan to attack around and join The Twisted Metal tournament..
    (I know this because of another Deleted Cutscene.)
    【TM2】
    3.) There's a comic book of Twisted Metal 2.. showing Calypso's past. ig.
    I think you can only get the comic only in a Sony Event which has passed..
    4.) Dark Tooth is driven by Charlie Kane in this one I think.
    (I'll show you these clips & stuff in Discord. well I can send a link here but like I don't want RUclips to hide my comment over a link or something)

    Through what lens were you reviewing these games? 2022 or 1995??
    Because in 1995, this was a highly rated game. EGM gave scores of 9.0 and 9.5 out of 10, and other reviewers gave similar scores.
    But even then, the graphics weren’t exactly stellar but the style of play was similar to gaming culture back then.
    Instant pick up and play, sufficient variety and could be completed within a weekend.
    Clearly gaming culture has changed now and this game would only be acceptable as a 5 minute FTP mobile game now.

    Christian companies were planning on boycotting the release of the game if they showed cleavage, as Hammerheads ending focuses on the T&A as they wished for Calypsos babes as their Original wish.

    Yo you've gotta consider "tall box" PS1 games in context when you review them. I don't think you realize how early the first game was in the PSX's life, with the unfair comparison to Driver and whatnot...
    At the time, its textures weren't bad-they stood out because they looked sourced from photographs, kept a gritty and photorealistic color pallette, and were consistent in scale to the vehicles, which today we take for granted. And the size of that Suburbia map was mind-blowing, so big that it was honestly too big for PVP, which was a cool problem to have! But yes its framerate was choppy, and if it sounded cheap that might've been the terrible compression of the time, but overall it was all a big step up from Quarantine on 3DO!

  • @PixelPusher1
    @PixelPusher1 2 года назад +2

    Twisted Metal 2 may have had only 10 songs but that game famously filled the PS1 disc's capacity! I'm saddened you didn't cover the cheat codes that were hidden on textures in the maps (like when you napalm the Mona Lisa in the Louvre)! Also did you notice the collapsed section of the Eiffel Tower is a bridge to the rooftops?
    I loved TM2's gameplay and art style, and unlike the next two entries, its characters and bosses were likable and memorable. TM:Black really felt like a return to form. Thanks for covering these games!
    Protip - backwards freeze is key (at least in multiplayer it was)

    • @BlooTeg
      @BlooTeg  2 года назад +1

      Honestly I didn't even know it had cheat codes considering I try my best to go completely blind into it, but I've got so used to having to pay for everything in games that I didn't even think about that haha
      There's still a lot to learn for me
      but I really liked 2!

    • @PixelPusher1
      @PixelPusher1 2 года назад +1

      @@BlooTeg Haha yeah it's funny how micro transactions have changed games. Free sh*t is old school lol
      But yeah on the first map, the Soviet missile silo, there are billboards outside the fence, one will show a code when destroyed. In Paris, break in the door into the Louvre museum, napalm the Mona Lisa. In the gothic rooftops map, there's a code written on the ground somewhere down below, I think you have to fall off to see it. Those are just the ones I remember. There were also portals hidden inside destructible cover. The one in LAX was good one, takes you to a bunch of refills. The rooftops map was my favorite cuz of the hidden areas inside the buildings. Same with Hong Kong... Such a good game!

    The reason the live action scenes were cut was literally because of the women and how they were dressed. thats right a Christian priest felt alright with cars and people being blown up, they're fine with Calypso murdering everyone just for the hell of it, but women in bikinis? thats a no no from us. so David Jaffe had to scrap all the footage. even some of the endings were altered between the lost endings and the final release.

    twisted metal 1 and 2. Ah yes, love those games as a kid. sadly never had twisted metal 1 until i got older and found it and purchased it. though i did get to play it when i went to my dads house cause his gf at the time kid had it. twisted metal 2 i did own when i was kid and ya. i constantly played it lol that and a lot of others. i lived way out way out in the country so it was either play in the woods by myself basically (or with my brother(s)) as there was literally no one around us. so i spent a lot of time playing video games lol
    twisted metal 2 is my fav in the series. i do have a soft spot for almost all of them, though i never did play small brawl nor did i play twisted metal 2012 though i did purchase it day one and had it factory sealed for the longest time before i just sold it.. i still own the strat guide for it. my one brother bought it and told me about like the 3 characters and you choose cars.... and i just well, im not opening that and playing it.. i waited years to play like another twisted metal 1,2,3,4/black and i knew 2012 was not that....
