- Review and test cutting thick steel with the Versa Cut 60 plasma cutter from Eastwood. 1/8" up to 1" thick. This is a 220v unit.
I have almost no previous plasma cutting experience, just having used a friends 110v cutter for a few minutes at most. I wanted an easy and clean way to cut thick metal in my home machine shop. The oxy-acetylene torches were a pain and the consumables constantly depleted. The Versa-Cut came in at almost half the price of the name brand unit I was considering, 3-year warranty, I decided to try it. Previously I had ordered a generic red plasma cutter online in the $300 range which I promptly returned after opening the box and seeing the construction.

In the end I am very pleased with both the machine and the price. Eastwood states 7/8" steel, I put it to the test with some 1" bar stock and it cut through. On thinner material it sliced quickly and with little effort. A welcome pleasure for sure vs. the saws and cut off wheels I have been using.
I've heard it said and now I'll say it... how did I function without this machine? It closely resembles magic. Хобби
Thanks so much for making this. I'm on the Eastwood site right now and you helped me make my decision. Thanks!
Plasma cutters are great. I absolutely love my everlast powerplasma cutter. You really can't beat the convenience.
I've had mine for 6 months and it still works great, btw when you buy always buy extra consumables and buy the radius adapter and use it for all cuts-works great!
Great review. Thank you for taking the time to review this unit . I'm going to buy one now with confidence. Again great video . Thank u . People like you are an asset to RUclips .
Your cuts remind me of my cuts in high school on a oxyacetylene cutter and to see a product that can take quarter inch steel like it’s butter I gotta respect that
thanks for this, could not find 60 amp anywhere. I just grabbed at a different brand, but it seems i just bought plenty for what I am doing. I have all kinds of metal working tools. Lo and behold I got into a spot restoring old steel that not only could not fit my efforts, there is friction welding by an extremely long runtime. A time for plasma...
Thank you for a useful movie that helped me to choose the right amp!
Thank you for your review.
Great review. Thank you for sharing.
I purchased my Versa Cut 60 and MIG175 in the combo package in March of 2013. I’ve used both of them several times a week for over 5 years. I did from the start upgrade the ground cord and clamp on the Versa Cut 60 to the same length as the torch cord. I upgraded the ground clamp on the MIG175 at the same time. They have both ever failed me in the 5 plus years I’ve had them. Would I do it again? Absolutely. Good video and guide for the new user. Thanks.
Thanks for making this video. Was considering a Miller but very pricey.
good review man. Im buying today. same set up
thank you so much, I was struggle which plasma cutter should I buy too!
thanks for the video , got mine and like it very much
Gratz, you are going to have fun with this guaranteed. Makes life so much easier! :)
Great review!
Good shit man! I just got mine in the mail! Cant wait to hook it up tomorrow and play with it! Not gunna be able to sleep lol
Awesome man its the ammo channel guy (i can tell by your voice)!! I was considering this plasma cutter for my shop and came across your review on their webpage. I'll take your word for it for sure and oh ya i might as well sub since i'm here :)
Great video, thanks
Dude thanks for the info... and not making a boring video with too much talking.
great plasma cutter
Overall nice video, but I have some tips for you. Your main emphasis was on cutting thick metal and you dissed the oxyacetylene torch and said you were looking for something better. The better on a plasma cutter is that it cuts a variety of metals besides mild steel (which you did show) and cuts thin metal very cleanly. It is not the tool for thick mild steel. An O/A torch is the tool for thick mild steel.
I really recommend you try dry metal cutting blade, is just amazing! and it only cost 40$, any mild steel, cut like wood!
Thanks. I bought a cheapo a few years ago and learned to use it, but never liked it. Ready to upgrade and your vid was helpful. Thanks..
looks like you need some more psi. I use mine well over 90psi at my own risk, and it zips through metal a lot faster than the recommended settings. Running it off a 80gal 5HP Ingersoll-Rand compressor. It most definitely helps with elminating the dross from the backside because it blows it clean off with more airflow.
Nice! Great vid. Where are these made? Warrantee? Thanks.
Good Thank You.
You made a mistake Sir. You should have used a clapped down straight edge "Guide" would have made a awesome clean cut without shaking. Well Done Video, and nice of you to help us, thank you much.
are you still happy with Eastwood? i am looking at plasma cutters. clearly Eastwood is more affordable but, i want to buy something I'll be happy with
Ótimo pra serviços em caixas eletrônicos
is it possible to cut other metals as well , alumin ,brass , copper ...? thank you for your review
yes anything conductive..
Bought the same model plasma cutter. However I'm struggling with finding an economical compressor that meets the cutter specs of 5-7cfm. You can't always trust foreign made compressors' specs. Any suggestions?
+Bob Morse
5-7 CFM is actually very low, you could really get away with a nice Husky 110v 30-33 gallon air compressor which is a low cost. But if you like to work in the garage alot look into the Ingersoll Rand or campbell Hausfeld 60gallon. Best investment i ever made.
Nice review. What size compressor did you have this hooked up to? What was the SCFM or CFM during your cut?
compressor is built into the unit
Patrick Michael Hi Michael, sorry for the very delayed response. I have a cheap 60 gallon Husky compressor from Home Depot, seems to work well. I don't recall the settings I used during the cuts. I did have to go very slow during heavy cuts - but it worked.
Jeremy Hi Jeremy, the compressor ir not build into this unit - I had to hook it to an air line that feeds to my compressor. The compressor is out in the garage to reduce noise in the workshop. Thanks for watching.
you might want to raise the air pressure the thicker you go. atlas 60 psi on the thicker stuff
min: 04:33 air? I know that the inert gas argon is used?
Where in miami can i buy it
hi, I have a 220 volt outlet and 200 amp service in my panel for my home. Will this work for me?
clearly 60 amps is less than 200. worst case scenario you need a bigger breaker for your 220 outlet
Eddie,Do not do what Dan Vize said to do. If you put a higher amp circuit breaker in your panel and do not upgrade to thicker wire, you will over heat the wire, start an electrical fire and burn your house down.
What consumables do you go through when using an oxy acetylene torch?
oxy....acetylene......tips
i liked how the breaker on the unit says 50 Hz.... must have been made in japan
Eastwood makes nothing, they just purchase and repackage other brands.
i got one used and that's the first thing i noticed too probably old stock they found some where 220v is no longer used but every one still calls it that lol
Can this also be used for welding ?
no
can i use this plasma cut with cnc machine
I'm not so sure about this machine but I do intend to put my Everlast plasma cutter on a CNC machine. I think there is plenty of money to be had with a CNC plasma table.
With only a minor adjustment to your voice, you could do a perfect impersonation of Ben Krasnow (Applied Science).
I also own this machine... took that metal ring off it and can cut anything.
Play with the air pressure it will cut 1 inch
I prefer a plasma cutter with integrated air compressor.
you should name the unit that was a disappointment so that others will know what not to buy. Whenever I do a review I have no reservation about throwing names out there about the product I tested. Don't worry so much about being sued because it's your first amendment right to speak up!
I have an inclination it's either Harbor Freight or ebay garbage.. Which could be a lot.
The unit he was on about was all the cheap cut40 and cut50 generic machines. He said it was rubbish without even using it. I have used the cut40 and cut50 generic machines and i can tell you they are amazing. They rip through 10mm plate. The cheap torch he mentioned looks rubbish but works well. Plus the spares and consumables are very cheap and last.
conclusion is your air is not enough.give it a more powerful air
If it cuts like there cut 40 it will not cut like they say, so I would watch what I buy
You spent too much money you should have kept the Chinese $300 one eastwood is nothing more than a glorified Chinese $300 one. I've had a cut 50 for years and had no problem with it. If your using it a lot then the hypertherm is a great choice if not $300 plasmas do the job. You could have bought 3 of them for the price of an Eastwood and you would have the same thing. And for $25 you could have upgraded the torch head.
A atta boy
My Icut 60 barely cut 1/2" stock, it is a cheap junk!
sales gimmick
100% Chinese machine, your funny
Will this cut through Trumps steel wall lol.
