The only things that made me want to buy both the NES Mini and the SNES Mini is the fact that they are super easy to hack and add games to them, because I would NEVER buy the SNES Mini if I couldn't play Donkey Kong Country 2 on it, my fav SNES game. I added just a few NES and SNES games to my mini consoles, mainly the ones I felt were missing like NES DuckTales or Tetris Attack and stuff, those mini consoles are my go to option to play NES and SNES games, both of my mini consoles are basically a compilation of my fav games for each system and is super neat
Modding an NES classic is one of the greatest joys out there. It's also a mild pro that it works with the Wii, though I never actually used it with one. Great video, champ!
Got both the NES and SNES Classic and using that 'special software' they are loaded to the gills. The NES required no hardware mod to get all the NES library plus many GameBoy, GameBoy Color, TG-16, Sega Master System, Atari 2600, etc. I stuck with small games and systems that used a D-Pad, Start, Select and two action buttons. The SNES Classic however has an sdcard mod with 32GB of storage and basically has everything up to Sega CD/PCE-CD/TG-16 CD. I have two BT adapters and I use two Wii U controllers I use with it.
I feel like the ability to play NES games on your HDTV via an HDMI cable without any mods or accessories and without having to subscribe to a service where you can temporarily download a game is a big selling point. Everdrives can be cool but you're still having to pull out the NES and set it up for your TV. The fact that you can hack it so that you can put every NES game on the system is a nice plus. I see people talking about the Wii... the Wii doesn’t output in 1080p and you can't use HDMI cables with it without using an adapter that doesn't even upscale the image.
Love my little NES Classic. Zero nostalgia for the SNES, so instead of getting the SNES Classic, I just put the entire system into my NES Classic XD. One button press, it reboots and launches into the SNES system, Menu, saves, music and games. Do one for the PlayStation Mini Classic though. Especially after BleemSync to modify the games list.
Man I still have my NES from 1989 and all the games, everything works perfectly! I would’ve bought one of these but I didn’t really need it since I have almost all of these games. I also have an NES emulator on my PC with pretty much every ROM. I do wish I’d went ahead and bought one of these though!
I just wanted to pop in real quick and say that i absolutely loved this video and the one you made about gamer snacks. Of course youre I Played Every Game series is how i found you but im the type of person who subscribes to someone based more on them and how they make videos, and not solely on what kind of videos they do. I dunno if these past two are just not getting through the algorithm or if most of your pther viewers just aren't interested in them, but i really enjoyed them. You are one if my favorite people on RUclips thanks for taking the time and effort to make ALL of your videos ❤
I really appreciate that, it means a lot. I don't think RUclips knows what to do with these videos but hopefully over time people warm up to them! I'm still working on the stuff people are used to, I'm just increasing the scope so it's taking a little longer 😅 But seriously, thank you so much
I hacked mine so I have all the NES games and Master System games, I also bought a couple of 3rd party cheap controllers and swapped the shells with a couple of faulty original NES controllers, worked a treat! Still going strong after all these years. I have recently acquired a CRT TV and dusted off my old NES. I have to say that these mini consoles do have some lag, it might just be a nano millisecond, but my goodness it is noticeable when you go back to some more difficult titles.
This video made me realize that I could've used the CRT filter on NSO this whole goddamn time. Right AFTER I finished my lengthy playthrough through all the classic 2D Zelda games for the first time... Oh well, I'll use it when I play through the Metroid saga I guess
both are cool to have, but honestly not having cheats or rewind feature hurts it imo. It's cheaper to get a wii and mod it with cheats and a more convenient save state option,
I just bought an NES and SNES mini last summer, and hacked them to add all the games I missed out on. Super worth it. The only thing that was kind of difficult was making sure I bought an authentic copies, since there are bunch of Chinese bootlegs going around. Anyways, I was finally able to beat the original Zelda on my NES mini, and I finally beat Chrono Trigger on my SNES mini (A game I had to hack on)
Fortunately I got my consoles around launch so I never had to worry about counterfeits, but I did see that that was an issue when I was researching the secondhand market.
The Wii is still incredibly versatile even today. Tbh I kind of transitioned to my 3DS/Vita for that kind of stuff but my introduction to console modding was the Wii for sure
I bought one of these for my Dad a while back, and having used it to play some Multiplayer with him it's pretty decent. In particular it's the best way for him to play romhacks since he wouldn't want to deal with an emulator, but with the injection programs it's really easy to slap the roms on there for him. Personally though, it doesn't really do anything for me that my modded 3DS and Wii don't, so I find it hard to justify buying one even with how cool they are.
The software for modding these has become ridiculously easy to use, so I'd argue that that alone is a selling point for the less technically-inclined. Those with experience are probably better off doing something like modding their 3DS or Vita or other handheld, as is your case
I have it and still play it now and again. I'd have to play with the original setup to be sure but there might? be some tiny input lag that you often get with these sorts of things on digital screens. But this system has basically facilitated me finally finishing so many of these games after all these years. I wish I could swap some games out without fiddling with the internals but I'm really satisfied with it over all. I wish I had the SNES version :)
I love my NES Classic. It's cute for display and is a great option for traveling with. I have a kit with uber-long HDMI and power cables that I use at hotels and other overnights. I'm new to your videos and am definitely enjoying your content. However, you desperately need some mic technique, possibly a windscreen/pop filter on your mic to avoid plosives (IE giant pops of bass on the letters B and P) I swear I'm not just being a knob here. Point your microphone at the corner of your mouth at a 45 degree and invest in a pop filter. But seriously, I mean this, great work! Well written, entertaining and just needs a little audio work. Cheers!
From what I can tell with what I saw on the NES classic compared to the original console is the noise channel on the NES classic is lower pitched and some of the colors are different to the original console played on a crt. I just tested Zelda 2 and on the real NES with just composite, in the houses, the red bricks are a more vibrant brighter red and the other bricks is a more pinkish/salmon color, as opposed to orange and a darker red on the NES classic.
Interesting! Isn't the emulator now standard-use for Nintendo? I wonder if the Switch Classic version has the same differences/behavior or if they've updated the emulator to make it more accurate
For the emulation used by Nintendo, I don't know. I just saw a video of Zelda 2 on the switch and I think it is more accurate to the original from what I saw, as far as the sound goes anyway. The coloring is still different from the original NES hardware.@@Niosai
I recently tested the colors with a different hookup. When I had both the composite and RF signal plugged into the console, but didn't plug the other composites in the tv and put it on to channel 3, that salmon color in the houses of Zelda 2 was a bright saturated orange color@@Niosai
Own both - luck of the refresh button draw NES retail; ebay for SNES. Have played each weekly, mostly muted whilst listening podcasts - puzzle games, sports, RPG... I've 80 games on each for fun. My NES controller though might not make it another year - lots of A button mashing via Tecmo Super Bowl... it def feels less hearty than the OG controllers.
I have had my snes mini since it came out and love it! Hacked it right away so I can play Genesis, gba or nes games. My only downside now , I updated the firmware and now I can’t use the borders for those games
Nice video dude I modded my NES & SNES classic as well. Shit load of games! Well the only con I would say is the internal memory on the NES classic is only 512mb. Enough to add all the NES games I want but if wanting to play Sega CD titles or shit like that a power connection with a USB input will be needed! Either way im glad I picked one up! LONG LIVE GAMING
I have this edition and play it all the time with my son. He enjoys Kirby's Adventure and Tecmo Bowl the best (he's 8). They got most of these best on here but Mario Bros, Ice Climber, Balloon Fight, Donkey Kong Jr. could have easily been substituted for much better games. Pro wrestling, Tecmo Super Bowl instead of Tecmo Bowl. Contra instead of Super C. Super Dodge Ball, MLB, Dragon Warrior, Ice Hockey, Mega Man 3, Duck Tales and on and on. The system still has a very high replay value with the games offered. No Tetris Nintendo "You cannot be serious"
Awsome video niosai you are a good person and a great creator because you never forget about your fans you are amezing already like this video i been following you since soul calibur every your First video by the way awesome keep work hard all my blessing, PS can i suggest played avery King of fighters ever you will have fun and can i ask you if you play king of fighters to say hi to me a will realy appreciate thanks

(logic #1) make a million of these things at a fair price .... (logic #2) make a limited edition & charge them at a ridiculously high price with a higher profit margin !! ....(can you see where this is going)
just by inventing the "mini" .... the "original" console & games are completely WORTHLESS .... the damage has already been done - am i the only one that sees this ??
30 games instead of 50 ?? ... one controller instead of two ...short cables instead of longer cables ... overpriced & undersupplied !! .... i'll wait until the price comes down - it ALWAYS does !!
@@Niosai yeah it’s just a shame that they didn’t do a better job. For example having to get up and press reset every time you want to save state or change game is stupid and the controllers don’t feel right particularly the snes mini.
Do you own the NES or SNES Classic editions? Do you still play them?
I have both of them and they are great I prefer the SNES Classic because the controller air cord length is longer
Got both still also hello there
I just use mobile emulation for those old retro games , anyway wanted to ask is there any chance you can do shin Megami Tensei persona series ?
I own the mini Nintendo nes and the original both still play

NES mini is better tho. because it has 256 MBs of nand flash, so you can fit more games when modded.
Modding an NES classic is one of the greatest joys out there. It's also a mild pro that it works with the Wii, though I never actually used it with one.
Great video, champ!
My favorite mini-console i'm NOT MODDING to play snes, genesis, gameboys, etc.
For not reason.
I've got a Wii, Vita and Series S. If I get my hands on a 3DS that'll give me access to pretty much every retro game out there.
Pretty good points!
The Nintendo Switch is an amazing console that the Steam Deck 🙌

I waited since 2017 for a n64 classic and gave up… so I turned my Wii into one
Tbh that's probably the best route you could've gone
Most of the games you can’t play 💀

Nintendo out here selling emulators that are free for a markup
The NERD emulators are top-tier tbh
