I love the ring, it’s so you.
As a professional gardener and garden designer I have some tips for very low maintenence things you can do for your garden/yard:
Number 1 is find out your hardiness Zone and what kind of soil you have. That will save you from a lot of heartaches.
Bulbs and tubours: spring bulbs that come back every year is a great investment, because it's a one time investment and you don't really need to do anything to maintain them.
    Examples: Daffodils/Narcissus
    Crocus, Snowdrops/Galanthus, Scilla and Alliums.
(Modern tulips are pretty, but rarely flower well after the first year, and have a lot of fungus problems because of mass production)
Look for species tulips if you like the idea of tulips.
Since you live in a wooded area, look around you and see if there are any native plants you enjoy looking at. A more curated version of the woodland around you could be very nice to bring in to a garden. Go and "steal" some from nature.

I cannot imagine your vibe not making everyone happy. You are so relatable! I’m a 63 year old grandma and I get absolutely giddy when I see a new video of yours pop up. We too completely renovated our 150 year old home and we don’t plan to ever leave. It is our taste precisely. I fell in love when we moved here 21 years ago, and still in love. Although it looks (and smells) completely different. We made an apartment in our non refinished basement and live down there 7 out of 10 years of the renovation. My husband did everything himself, and he rebuilt it with everything my heart desired. All for my convenience and enjoyment. We’re very happy!

I felt not unhappy but also not actually happy for like 10 years and in the last year I too got a house, have a long term beautiful relationship with my bf, a fantastic daughter, and a job I like and feel proud of. It just feels like my life came together and I finally feel actual happiness. So, congrats! I know how nice that peace brings.

As much as I get that home design and decoration can be someone’s main passion and hobby, I still feel like constantly moving and flipping and customising house after house after house is like.. massively wasteful. I wish more people had the ability to move into a home and be content there instead of always moving on to the “next thing”

My only comment about the "hot water taps" are that they have a limited use .... we've replaced 3 before we learned they are not made to work for more than a few years ... yes, they only cost about $300, but in the meantime if they "go bad" and you don't know it ... they can cause a lot of costly damage to your kitchen before you know it. We settled on buying a really good electric kettle (a staple of, as I'm sure you know, every home in the UK) and it only takes a couple minutes to warm up water to tea/coffee temp.

Just to get a little serious for a second. And as a response to your “do I regret making Reno videos?” My husband and I bought a fixer upper at the end of 2023. Unfortunately we had to fix some serious issues right out the gate and it completely depleted what we had saved and even put us in some debt. Which has made my husband seriously depressed and a little hopeless on fixing up the house. The only things I’ve been able to do is patch some holes and paint some rooms. But! When I show my husband your videos and the timeline that you’ve been working on your home, it gives both of us a lot of hope, that we will eventually get there too. It’s not a race and we have time. Thank you for making these videos, we love them! ❤

As a sixty plus woman, assuming you haven't finished your bathroom, I strongly suggest a soaking tub ( if I recall you have 2 bathrooms, I haven't seen any bathroom videos in a while).
As for the wall of windows, sounds lovely.
I also have a old house ( 1914 four square) with lots of large windows & I suggest you take a lot of time watching what the sun does all year long because a wall of windows can really heat up your house, covering a lot of windows on 1 wall is difficult at best & than there's the cleaning & maintenance of them.
Depending on your air conditioning situation or potentially lack of central air, learn about and consider double hung windows & adding transom windows above doors ( what they did to increase cross ventilation before air conditioning came every day house item.
Some times our for fathers has better ideas on living in our environment.
    Love your eclectic decorating style.
    Carry on your doing great.

At the end of the night after everything was closing he pays someone while I used the restroom to give us a private tour of the library again and I was very confused. As I was looking around the man talking faded away. I looked toward the guy and he left. I turned around and my man was on his knee barely able to get the words out! Congratulations on your engagement. You might like Hannah Duggan's channel. She has been renovating two different properties that she has purchased over the last 5-6 years. The first one has two cottages and a bit of land in a rural area. She has done most of the work herself with occasional help from family and friends. On the rare occasion that there is something totally out of her wheelhouse she has hired someone who knows what to do and she usually helps them and learns how to do whatever it is so in the future she can fix or do whatever it was. Last year she purchased a small homestead with a bit more land and a custom built wood home that she has been slowly renovating and doing upgrades on the different systems for heating and plumbing while reconfiguring the different spaces to suit her long term needs. Both places are rustic in some aspects with the newer one being more modern on the amenities like having a heating system other than a wood stove. She has both types in the newer property which also has an amazing cast iron cook stove which has come in handy when the power went out. She recently started her own business that includes some beautiful jewelry that she designed as well as journals, totes, and some other merchandise that helps support her channel and projects. It's called Lupine Lane after the flowers that was growing everywhere surrounding her first property with the two cottages. I think they had been hunting cabins in the past and were very rough. I will try to share a link because I probably misspelled her last name.

As someone currently working in the interior design space and a lover of more traditional style homes, I fully agree with the superfluous trim 😄 Putting in big beautiful trim, in a new or old home, really adds and defines the character of the space. a warning about that hot water tab: once you have it you will NEVER be able to live without one lmaoo. i moved into a place which already had one installed but it broke after a few years. there was no way i could go back to the old fashioned way, so i saved up and replaced it, it was sooo expensive 🥲 but so worth it! just think about making pasta - no wait time until that huge pot of water of water is boiling! plus the mind blown faces of your friends when you offer them tea and you just go straight for the tab water, priceless.
also as another chronically ill person, i totally get how you sometimes just have to power through and risk the downtime. as long as you know your hard limits so you don’t overdo it to the point of permanently worsening the condition if that’s possible with EDS? i know it is for me and it’s one of the few things that really scares me about this whole chronic illness thing!

On the hot water tap topic, you can also get a hot water dispenser. It's not an urn (one of those giant cylinder things that sit there guzzling energy, constantly hot and a steam burn risk). It's a much smaller thing. The water in it stays room temperature. But when you press a button, it instantly dispenses hot water. It takes much less energy because it isn't keeping it hot the whole time. You can set the temperature, and the volume, each time. I also have EDS and multiple other autoimmune connective tissue diseass and a muscle disease, and lifting a hot water kettle is really hard for my hands, wrists, shoulders and upper arms. The hot water dispenser is my new best friend. I put the tea bag in a mug, place it under the dispenser, press a button and walk away and come back in a few minutes when it's steeped. It's also useful for when I just need to add a bit of hot water to cooking.

Ariel, you just make me so happy!! I was missing you today and thought it had been a while since you uploaded, so checked to see if there was anything new on your channel. To my disappointed, I found no new video. Just a few minutes later, as if you were listening, out popped your new video! I loved the Q&A and also love watching Roaming Wild Rosie! Congrats on the engagement, Connor is one lucky lucky man.

I loved your response to the question about becoming a house flipper. The way you acknowledged the distinction between learning new skills for your own joy vs. for a career was so emotionally honest. I'm about to graduate from college, and I am pushing myself to think more along these lines, as I try to figure out what truly makes me happy and what I feel pressured to pursue for money.

Congratulations on your engagement! I must admit that as a horticulturalist I'm a little bit disappointed in not getting to see you create a dream garden but I totally understand why, gardens need maintenance. However, if you want to you could plant a couple of different rhubarb cultivars as they mostly fend for themselves like trees do. There's even one which is called 'Canada red'. Full sun, a square meter or so of space and lots of manure and water now and again as newly planted.

Ariel I just discovered your channel and love your wholesome content💗 I’m a 33 married mother of 2 young boys. Our worlds are different but the Q&A about happiness deeply resonated with me. We’re a military family and the way you described being happy because you feel settled and a sense of stability touched my soul. Moving around so much makes the heart long for stability. My husband has a few more years in the military before retirement and it’s a dream of ours to buy a home and settle down. Until then I can dream and live vicariously through you and you’ve inspired me to read again! Thank you! Congratulations on the engagement, your home and mini truck!

Holy crap! I usually watch you on my tv, but had to get on my phone so I could leave a comment. I did a little laugh/cry when you started talking about your EDS and being in pain all the time. You sound just like me! But I'm 50. 😆
I'm the same way, pushing myself to get things done, then being in agony for a while after. Ibuprofen works best with acetaminophen, lol. Hell, even sleeping the wrong way can lead to days of pain. Just please listen to your body. Try to engage your muscles to hold yourself together when lifting. It only gets worse as you get older. I'm sure you know all this, already.
Anyway.. I love your channel and your videos! Congratulations on all you've accomplished with your home! And congrats on your engagement, too. 😊

I’ve been thinking about this but it was kinda too late to tell you… Maybe you can use this idea for the spooky room though. I was thinking that if you make more wall bookshelves and put them on all of the outer walls you will have a really good insulation. I know that can be a problem with older houses. I absolutely love your home renovations. It’s very inspiring and existing. I am really invested in it 😂

Yes! Floor to ceiling book cases are the way! You do need to have some insulation behind them though, mostly to keep the books from getting any kind of damp.

I'm so happy to hear you're getting married! Sounds like you're going to have a ton of fun. I loved planning my wedding, and having all my friends help me pick out everything. I'm also happy to hear you WON'T be documenting your wedding for YT. There's such an air of expectation for "influencers" and personalities to share every single aspect of their life, to be always available, to bare every corner of their soul for consumption. Your wedding is such a beautiful, personal moment, and while I'm sure documenting it wouldn't be terribly taxing, it would ultimately detract from experiencing the moment fully. To quote Bluey, "just go about it." I hope your moment is as enduring and heartwrenchingly beautiful as the gorgeous shots you line up for your videos.

You are going to bless so many with books!!! I can see it, book Fundraisers in the form of donated books, and the books get donated to communities, schools, places and people who really need the nurture that comes through a book. This is the first time I'm hearing that you have EDS! I've been watching you for a few years and as a fellow h-EDS person it's so refreshing to hear someone else talk about this syndrome that is so rarely spoken about. And I completely resonate with how you speak about it, not letting it stop you from your life but also it's a chronic condition... there is no ignoring it. We have to live and work with it and all the many MANY symptoms that come with it but it's also our life and we need to live it. Thank you for speaking to this.

Hi Ariel, congratulations on your engagement. My son Patrick bought a house and moved to Nova Scotia, near Truro with his partner 2 years ago this May. Patrick was born and raised in Hamilton, Ontario.
Patrick runs a craft brewery in Truro, the Truro Brewing Co. and I just thought if you are ever in the area, you might want to pop in and say hello. I’ve told him all about you. I think you guys would definitely hit it off. Good luck with all your plans. Keep up the great work with your videos. Take care.

Check with your garden center on the best times to plant trees and strawberries etc. In 8 zone fall, plant when trees are dormant. In Spring when they bloom, the roots should be stable and deep enough so you don’t have to run around watering them. Also, buy your plants in 1 gallon size and you’ll save money and be able to buy more plants. They grow fast and will be 5 gallon size before you know it. Love you and your channel. 😊 Fran

First of all, congratulations on your engagement!! Regarding the house flipping thing, I totally understand your mindset. I think if you were to make a career out of it, it'd be advising people (including friends!) who are looking to achieve a similar look in their homes, rather than flip houses only to sell them. Second thing, what you said about happiness at the end really resonates with me. I'm turning 29 next month and only just started working as a teacher last September, but the system in my country is stupid and I'm being sent to teach 6 hours away from my home region, where I have everyone I love less than 30 minutes away by car. Most people go with it even if it means being unable to move back home for over a decade because of the job attribution system, but I'm seriously contemplating quitting. The financial stability is a relief, but I don't think it's worth isolating myself and my partner for an undetermined amount of time. For some people stability also means proximity with family and friends, and I'm finally aware that I am one of those people. And I'm done with planning ahead a year at a time, too. Your appreciation of your own stability gives me great comfort advocating for my own.

The laugh after the "I am kind of in constant pain." That is so chronic illness. It is humors in a sense. It's all you've ever known and its good to have a positive mid set about it. If you can't smile, laugh, and talk about it then you aren't doing it right. Just take life head on and stay happy. It's all you can do.

25:25: I'm also renovating a remote home (basically a big cabin in the woods) but not making videos about it, and I have to say your videos give me so much happiness. We've been working to fix our well water and storage system for the 5 years we've lived here, and I feel like so many people would think it's ridiculous but you get what it means to invest in building up a home. We keep the pieces of pipe we've battled as little trophies lol

  • @TehBuggy
    @TehBuggy 10 месяцев назад

Speaking of style you like regardless of other people’s opinions:
My first big renovation was turning a spare room into a full library, but my vision for it was a little gothic, a little somber, a little haunted. Lots of burgundy and dark wood, weird trinkets, old globes that turn on their own when the house settles, etc. I bought a triceratops skeleton the size of a big dog from a Halloween store and it ties the room together perfectly. It’s bizarre and creepy and I get unsure comments when I show people, but I LOVE it.
And then my bathroom is pirate themed. The walls have wood panel on the lower half that looks like a ship, one wall is painted like an old treasure map (including sea monsters, whirlpools, and of course a big X), I have a skull and crossbones on my cabinets. I even store things like q-tips and spare soap in little treasure chests. Other adults have given weird looks, but a neighbourhood kid got locked out of their house and really needed to pee so they asked to use my bathroom, and now other local kids know my house as “the one with the cool bathroom”. 😂

I love your story about your fiancé! Weirdly enough I had a similar experience meeting my husband. We met at the gym (I just got out of a breakup) and I didn’t want to meet anyone new. He came up to me and I just wrote him off. After we finished up, he came up to me to tell me he was leaving and without even hesitating, I instantly asked what he was doing later that night. It didn’t even feel like it was me who was speaking, like my mouth made the decision for me. And here we are, happily married 😅 I just think we are meant to find our soulmate when we are least expecting it and your story brought me so much happiness!! ❤

Wow Congratulations Ariel! On the Victorian house thing, I'm from the UK and I still find it strange when people from North America consider Victorian houses old and special, they're everywhere here! Even my crappy cheap student house at university was from 1865. There are lots of 400 year old pubs just down the street from me. But after watching your videos you've made me really stand back and admire the old buildings we have here - I went to a wedding in an 800 year old hall the other week! Just wanted to say thanks for making me appreciate my surroundings!

oh I love that! I do think Europeans often forget how lucky you all are to live so deeply with history. Our oldest remaining structures are a maximum of 200 years old here! There's like 10 buildings from 400 years ago and that's it haha
