I learned to fly in a 1946 7AC Champ. My instructor was a WWII Army Air Force Pilot who taught in BT-13 aircraft. We flew out of a dirt field with no radio, and I loved it. At that time, he was a corporate pilot and flew Lear's, but loved the Champ. The good old days of 1970, flying was $8 an hour wet and $15 an hour with instructor. Long live the Champs !
My God I've seen a lot of Champs that plane is absolutely gorgeous I love the modifications to the motor that you described awesome and I love the idea of the accelerator pump I think I would do just about anything to own that champ
That's the first light aircraft I ever flew in. I took a $25 demo ride on a small strip in Huntington Beach, CA. to see if I liked flying or not. Never forget that ride. Fell in love with flying that day.
Very nice airplane! I also like these simple airplanes, focus on flying and not a bunch of screens - we can do that at home on the computer for free! You should do a video on the spitfire as well, I talked to him years ago but would like to hear more about it and I'm sure others would too. As I recall he built the whole thing from scratch.
If my nomenclature is right, I flew a Champ 7AC or EC back in the early 60's out of Nacogdoches, Texas. Simple, wonderful flying in and out of grass strips around the area. Great little planes. I'm pretty sure the one I flew also had the 85hp engine.
My dad was stationed at Ft. Sill, OK after WWII and there were a lot of light aircraft there at the time. There were L4s, L5s, L17s (Navion) and, of course, L16s. I use to ride my bicycle to the airport to watch them fly. Sometimes there would be several in the pattern shooting touch and goes and I was always excited watching them.
OOH, I want one! I have watched two of your videos, the first being the genteman with the pietenpol. Thank you, I really enjoy your cadence and the men you interview. The aircraft is perfect and I really do want one.
Bob was too brief about that beautiful restoration. I love his stories about his career in the airlines, and I feel the same about my farm. Let us know when he wants to find another caretaker for this jewel.
The Unions mint a lot of disgruntled pilots. Airline pilots went from: "I can't believe I get paid for doing this" to "They OWE ME BIG TIME TO FLY THIS PLANE!" 🥸🧐
I could listen to Bob for hours, great video!
Smiled through that entire video.
Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks
First one I have seen with an aluminum prop.Looks good.

I bought and flew an L-3 several years ago and flew it for 4 years. Loved the little plane.

Am so happy for this gentleman. Lucky enough to be a professional pilot myself, can only hope to still be enjoying flying at 86.

Spitfire
I think I saw the hanger, if not the plane, if the other plane is a British WWII fighter..
