Test drove it 2 weeks ago. Was my top pic, as I did not want a Tesla due to their build quality. I found XC40 underwhelming. I felt like I had been catfished. The car was so plain I didn't recognize it, and driving in it was no better.
Too late....turn signals are to be used to tell those around you what you intend to do....not what you're doing. Once you're in the turn, it's not very helpful to then use your turn signals.
I'm really confused about how electric cars feel "weird" to you...my experience has always been that they are just very, very consistent and smooth. What cars were you driving?
People have a harder time driving/riding in electric cars cause it is a different feel. Most people may feel carsick and it’s because it’s electric the drive is different. With the Tesla I have to keep it in chill mode for that reason cause if not I get car sick and will vomit.
@@Ozefan2580 I don’t see much of difference between highway miles vs. city miles like in a gas powered car. But what I have noticed is that it is slightly better when the weather is warmer. Honestly I’m super happy with this car!
@@lpsglitterpaws8536 Thank you! I have a C70 that is 15 years old and a newish XC40. Love them both but really want to try electric, but the range had me worried. Looks like the XC40 is going to be traded for a C40. 😊
i test drove one last year. My first time in an EV. It was fast and comfortable. However the dealer told us to maybe wait another year so they can work the kinks out,,
200 is fine. Most people are not going to drive 100 miles to work and back. If you are stuck in traffic for an hour on your way home it could be stressful though.
Tesla has an advantage when it comes to range, but that's it. Everything else is better in this Volvo. So if you drive 300 miles a day, buy a Tesla and pay more, if you don't, buy a Volvo. Simple as that.
The range is actually the one thing that stopped me from buying the all-elec XC40 after my test drive last year. If Volvo can boost the single-charge range to over 300 miles, I will probably bring my current habit of leasing vehicles to an end and buy it.
You pay a lot for the electrification. The xc40 has a lot of awards and since this vehicle is an XC40, it's going to be a fine vehicle. I don't care about the range, too much is made of that. I think Volvo needs to work on efficiency to be competitive and right now, their electric vehicle is on the expensive side. Next is the xc90 of next year, and all-new one. That may be close to $100K based on the premium you pay on the XC40.
Their range is pretty bad for a pure electric at around 2.6-2.7 miles per kwh. 3+ is pretty normal nowadays. I'm sure the next generation of this vehicle will do a lot better, and this increase in efficiency will implicity increase range.
@@christinearmington Not to everyone. Especially those who can charge their cars overnight. If you don't take a lot of road trips, then it isn't the most important feature. A car still has to work well based on other attributes.
@@christinearmington From a practical perspective, having a short commute, range doesn’t mean much to me. On principle though, It’s disappointing to be so far behind the competition.
Great video, I love the design and compact size, but not sure why 78kw vs Model Y 80kw , the range is much less ? 208miles vs. 320 miles (model Y long range), plan to buy an electric car. Decide between recharge vs Model Y
Part of that is Tesla releases their full battery pack up front, others save 15-20% so they don’t degrade as fast…. In other words the Tesla could be as low as 260 miles if they held back battery to slow down the drop with age/time…. Tesla is still better than most, but less than one would think because of how they configure the numbers.
@@greganson3627 If you wait till the inventory stacks up, closer to 45-50k. Right now they're too new to get anything, I would wait 4-6 months. Check this yourself as im not sure but you still can get $7500 tax credit today with volvo but not with Tesla (Tesla already capped out years ago) unless they pass the Biden bill (which is getting dimmer) then everyone gets $8000 for any EV (has to meet EPA standards). It looks like volvo adopted the concept of delivering and "know-feeling" from this car. Not sure it will work with the short range as much as expected. Tesla does feel too cheap and minimalist in the model 3 and Y but the charging and range issues are better addressed. Too much redesign emphasis on things that do not need redesign but rewrite altogether. 400HP really? who uses that? There are so many "old fashioned" design items there that did not work in older models(I'm S90 owners)...The whole car size and build as an off-road car for the city is questionable...The media panel display looks like an off the shelf design or luck of. So much empty space on the panel and the color. As a software developer it seems half baked.

I do agree with him regarding the build quality and the aesthetics over Tesla, but the 208 miles of range is unacceptable for the price. :(
None of the all-electrics are fabulous for cross-country driving. But if you (like most drivers) spend 98% of your time in-town, no range anxiety.
