I love BDI too - got the exact same entertainment center as my first piece of "expensive" furniture 10 years ago. They have the Corridor executive desk that's 30" deep. It also has the cable mgmt panels but not full height in case you want something bigger.
18 on that one section that isn't used as much is fine I think. Just a place to put stuff temporarily and all your equipment stored on the 24" depth part.
Matt, I scoped out that exact same set up. I think it had to be way back in 2012 when I bought my BDI entertainment center. That desk set up is way ahead of the game cable management is still next level, especially with those magnetic back panels.
I was hunting for BDI a few years ago but couldn't find a dealer that would ship to me. I'm excited to hear you're trying to become a national dealer. It will make my next desk choice so easy!
Dude- you’ve got to make a video about the bluesound node icon and the Mac mini. That is a sweet setup. Let us know how have you got that setup. Just a great looking setup. Tell us more…
What is noticeable is that you sit much too low on the chair. The legs are not at a 90° angle and in the long run sitting like this is extremely uncomfortable and unhealthy for some people's backs because the armrests are also much too low on the chair.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the look, fit and finish. I like the versatility and modern style. The price isn’t terrible either. So what’s my gripe? I really don’t have one, just here to explain what I went with for my son’s room years ago. The room is a 12’x15’ and he wanted an “L” shaped wrap around wall hugging desk that has storage and display shelves underneath. His only requirement was that he wanted downward firing LEDs on the front lip (underside) of the countertop … down the full length. I ended up buying “unfinished” kitchen cabinets (uppers and lowers) from the big box stores. He opted to not have any upper cabinets so they all went on the floor, screwed into the studs. Each one stands 36” tall and have various openings (doors, drawers and shelves). 7 total, including the corner piece. I spent 16 days in the garage with sanding, priming, painting and coating. He chose a flat dark gray paint with stainless pulls. I then let them cure for another 12 days. In that time, I bought two 1.5” thick walnut countertops 25” deep by 12’ long. I cut them to size, sanded them and oiled them up. Installed everything in about 8 hours or so. Hey yeah great, cool story bro … how much? Total “all in” cost = $3250 That does NOT take in to account labor or time. Does it look nice? Is it durable? Is it functional? Did you router out a channel for your son’s LED light strips? Yes, to all that. Would I do it again? F#$K no! But I’m glad he likes and enjoys it. TLDR version: buy, don’t make. 😂😂😂
Grovemade has been promoted heavily by social media “influencers” but I agree 100% it is nice stuff. Probably will get a product or two when I redo my office.
100%. And this is hardly an insane comment lol. At a glance, it "looks" like a lot of desks I've seen on Amazon or Wayfair for less than $100. But the more I watched the video, it becomes more apparent that this is different. How much different, I'd have to see in person to appreciate. It's like the Honda build where you have to explain how all the money was spent but at the end of the day, it's still a Honda. You don't have to explain the value/investment in a Porsche. This desk looks like a Honda in pictures/video instead of giving the Porsche-like vibes of its price tag.
Was just browsing BDI's website since I'm in the market for a new bedroom set and wow, their stuff is beautiful... probably way out of my budget though. Got any favorite more budget-friendly furniture brands?
I have that bdi bed your talking about and its ok I got it when it 1st came out, the one thing I don't like is the USB c ports are not powerful enough to charge an iPhone 16 pro max and when I had my iPhone 15 pro max it would not charge it either.
I have built a half a dozen of the Uplift set-up. I've never like Herman Miller. I had two or three of them in my wealth management offices. I've found that I rarely stand. This room feels a bit smaller than I'd like for a larger standing desk, so this was a perfect spot to try this out.
Loved the video Matt. What does the audio routing look like and how does the Dynaudio speakers get fed from both the Node and from Mac Mini audio output? Is this switched somehow?
USB-C from computer. Left and Right XLR out direct to each speaker. RCA out that has to converted to XLR to the subwoofer. Volume has to be controlled on the top of the Node Icon. A regular Node doesn't have USB input, so that's a no go.
BDI makes some quality furniture, had thier coffee table , media center, and standing tv mount. the media center was bad ass, made for audiophile gear. As for that desk, meh.. I would have went with a Deskhaus Apex Pro Max with a live edge stained to match the bdi.
You want a desk 30in deep. You know how long it took me to find a 30in deep desk? So long that I just built my own desk. Two 4x8 nice plywood from which I made a double thickness top (48in wide by 30in deep) and then single thickness back and sides. I have the monitor mounted with the VESA to a board that is secured to the back panel. That's right furniture fans, whenever I have to move the desk to clean/whatever the monitor moves with it :D "What's it like with all that space between you and the monitor!? What's it like not having that monitor crowding your face!?" It's glorious :D -
@@ObsessedGarage I would argue that depth needs are in the eye of the beholder. I mean, I agree, 30” is very nice and would fit pretty much every need you would ever encounter. Speakers, components, PC’s, laptops, headphones, lamps, monitors, hobbies, crafts, sewing machine, 3D printer and even that project 426 hemi big block. But when you don’t use some of those types of things, a 16”-24” depth works for most situations. As long as it looks good and serves its purpose, I’m thinking it’s all okay. 😊😊😊
@@ObsessedGarage The reason the desk is not as deep is due to the underdesk keyboard/mouse tray. If you use that you are farther away from the desk/monitor etc.
Loving everything but I am not sure the cabinets with the precious things are your style Matt. Everything else is clean and fuss free, functionally excellent.
300$ install and they couldn't carry it upstairs? You could make that desk under 400$. I'm truly curious what makes it almost 2000$ ? Just an L shaped desk really.
Such an awful desk design. Cluttered and cheap materials bought in bulk. Even IKEA has this beat with real hard wood desktops with just standard legs. under $200. I'm sorry this is just hideous and the prices are atrocious. Stop buying these stupid brands for their name and find something worth building.
Love watching someone who has the same eye for detail as me. Loving the look of the office.
Love the Traceless bottle hanging out in the background. Truly the best cleaner for LCD screens, peripherals and desk surface

That chair feels pretty darn good to me. Daily reverse hypers have made my back pretty tough.
Don't you know?never question matt he knows all😅
I picked up a husky workbench, it’s massive, extremely well built, very nice wood finish on the top and didn’t break the bank.

I do.
Absolutely love the desk but I am so used to 30 inch depth I don't think I could ever go shorter.
Looking forward to a review on the Bluesound Icon. Will pull the trigger if you think it's worth a grand.
Matt, you need to check out Grovemade products for desk setup. Beautiful products and in my opinion, meets the OG standards.
Grovemade has been promoted heavily by social media “influencers” but I agree 100% it is nice stuff. Probably will get a product or two when I redo my office.
I’ve had a Grovemade shelf on my desk for years. It is definitely a high quality product.
what do you think about the secret labs line of chairs/desks?
I've never had one, but those look super cheap. Not my style.
looks like a $69.95 office depot special
That's an insane comment. You have no idea what you are talking about.
@ObsessedGarage yeah... you're right. It's more like the $119.99 version

I would love that in my office to display my toys out of the box
Big fan from Belgium.
Moi aussi!
Where’s the BDI furniture made?
Not so sure I would use traceless for things like my monitor screen after seeing how flammable it is. Pretty concentrated solvent
It's fine.
what a sweet setup! what about a printer, is there one somewhere in the room?
I haven't used a printer in years.

matt trying to blow dry his hair with those speakers
Like the Maxell cassette guy in the ad from the 80’s 😂

His hair?
Cool desk, I’m in the market for one.
Lol 😂 Notice that perfect cable management though! Typical electrical engineer, Matt...
9:10 - what is the device under the monitor displaying the time? Is it an audio mixer of some type?
Probably the channel for the speakers
Bluesoun Node Icon. It is a digital to analog converter that connects computer to speakers.
I like the deal but I would do two monitors as I’m in excel daily along with emails
nice good video of good useful things for a nice ofice .looks good to .congratulate with it to

Magic Mouse is horrible. MX Master has been my favorite for a while now
it's just blind apple fandom. Even some of the most hard-core apple fans acknowledge that it is utter crap, but matt is in too deep, I'm afraid

This is insanely good for the cost. You people have no concept of what high-end furniture costs. This was a fraction of that.
Caucasian people wearing shoes in the house and on carpet is crazy to me, I’m just curious, why do you guys do it?
I gave up on that when we had kids. All of the hard surfaces in Florida make it uncomfortable to walk around.
