Years and years of neglect on gas lines while the higher ups make millions in salaries, Enough said !!!
@peter: BINGO
We need to end using natural gas. It is too dangerous and contributes to CO2 emissions.
Younger generation too stupid to do the right installation and inspections.
Why are there so many residential gas explosions? Non licensed plumbers? Owner repairs? Old plumbing pipes and fixtures? I just don't get it?
part of the new green bill
@Patriot326 wow. You lost the plot. Your whole identity is attacking the other side. This literally had nothing to do with either political side.
From what I have seen, installation across the country has been done with inexperienced lower cost labor. The number of brand new builds I have seen since the pandemic with sickening levels of code violations seems to grow year after year.
Inexperienced workers and poor work ethic hired.
Ya, because house obliterate themselves all the time....nothing to see here...move along.... lmao
Praying for comfort and healing for the families 🙏
all insurance companies already trying to walk away lol
Good gosh this is like the 3rd home explosion today !! What is going on ??
Im 66 and cannot in all my years ever recall this being such a regular thing like it has been the last few years ...its alarming...
😮huh? Third today? Where are the others if you don't mind me asking.
I agree, and it scares the absolute crap out of me.
I think it was just not visible. Unlike when you were younger, you now have the ability to know about every residential gas explosion in America, and the algorithm will happily show you that if it thinks that's what you want to see.
Ground movement and very old infrastructure .

The pipes under front lawns, lasted as long as they could. They are expiring now and leaking just as they did North into Pennsylvania. The solution? Turquoise PVC sleeve slid right over problem pipes. I watched them fix it like this! I kid you not....
Because 20+ years ago you didn't hear about it unless it was in your town or state. Welcome to the internet age where things like this become national news.
@@puckcat22679 This guy gets it. It isn't more common, it's just there's now a camera basically *everywhere* able to both document it and transmit it.
you know what's annoying about this, when i help people with drywall or paint or flooring, tiling, 100 different things or whatever it is and then reject doing gas or electrical work, they go "come on, what kind of handyman are you, i thought you're supposed to do everything".... i do enough... but i'm not going to do anything dangerous if i'm not qualified for it EVEN IF I CAN DO IT.... if i install your vinyl planks wrong (which i won't) the worst you can get is a creaky board... no one will die, explode or get electrocuted...
the point is, i've had waaaaaaaaaaaaay more people push me to try to do something for them i didn't want to do so they could save a couple of bucks on an electrician than i have questioning me about what i'm doing it and where the license is
this case might be a good example of "contracting out". THE GAS company sent a SUB contractor, if I get the vid.,, but these SUB contractors have ONE Red Seal on their books that is qualified, but then bring in relatives that are NOT qualified and the home owner isn't going to ask. Hydro BC did this with a contract involving HUNDREDS of workers. Some Pinoy outift got the contract, then my Red Seal electrician buddy from the local Union hall was sent out to correct all the illegal work. Surprisingly, Hydro BC Canada KNEW this and SAVED money doing the large project this way. Surprisingly, no one was KILLED.
Facts bro
Agree; huge liability and could come with a prison sentence -- not thank you!
Just terrible 😞 😕
Thanks for reporting.
This is fucking terrifying
Why ?
My condolences and prayers to the victims families.
I cannot speak for BG&E , similar explosions happened in the 1990’s when the Washington Gas Company raised the pressure in the gas lines but did not change the meters to new. The higher pressure gas put a strain on old equipment and tragedy awaited.
@@tomcartwright7134 did the buildings explode to this degree???
To cause an explosion like that, YOUR GONNA SMELL IT!!!! these just aren't making sense.
I didn’t smell mine. I have a crawlspace under the house with vents all around. Never smelled anything i the house or even in the yard. But my bill was going up and up. Plumber found it right away and capped it off. Gas company should have noticed but as long as I paid my bill, they didn’t care.
@mlaiuppa I understand that, however to have THAT EXPLOSION TO THAT DEGREE, we are talking a completely SEALED off structure, I mean NO TYPE OF VENTILATION, and there's 2 people inside? I just don't see it exploding like that.
They DID smell it and it was reported. The BGE guy checking on it was killed in the explosion. It's literally in the video.
@@robbiefrench7564 Guy in a wheelchair, house was being sold and electrical work had recently been done.
Lord help us.
How does this gas leak keep occurring without being detected in communities? Should there be better inspections at least twice a year?Crawl spaces need to keep ventilation ports open plus gas detectors ought to be in every home using gas.Gas should not be used within homes that do not have good up to date heating systems.
Who will do those inspections, much less pay for them?
@@donaldfschiff1229 you will when you have the system inspected.About 600 dollars a year.I get my system inspected by a professional contractor.

Not many. It's very rare.
Hmm, is natural gas going to be banned soon along with the stoves??

Scary
That is unfortunate.
Gas filled house is a ticking time bomb and the water heater is typically the ignition source.
My uncle died in a gas explosion in his basement. All he did was flip the lightswitch. Any spark will set it off.
Gas has no smell. They add that pungent smell so you can smell it. We live near a natural gas pipeline and a small facility that puts in the smell additive. Whenever we smell gas and call it in, they tell us it's not a gas leak, it's caused by "venting" the additive. Ironically, we have no gas service in our rural neighborhood. Everyone is on electric - even though millions of gallons of liquified natural gas goes through the pipeline in the right-of-way nearby. If that ever blows up...
*They call it an ... **_"odorant."_** Same with Propane.*
I have gas detector that goes off just by placing a sealed bioethanol container anywhere near it. It detects anything that produces fumes.
It was expensive but certainly cheaper that a human life and/or a house.
By the sounds of things I must be the only person that can smell a fart 😮
Don’t dig there.
So sad
This gave me the chills my home exploded in 2022 killing my 4 children & mother in law .. this shit needs to stop!
@@Kristina-y2v OH wow, I'm so sorry for your loss. Prayers to you.
Natural gas is one of the safest forms of energy. Right…
I use an electric stove and a grill for my residential needs. No way I would live in a house with pumped in explosives.
The sad part is if there's gas on the street and can follow your water line into the basement....it's happened before and will happen again...not saying that's the case here.
@@stephenwalsh5683 It's very rare.
The tighter and more heat efficient the home the more cause for an issue. Fumes build up and stay contained. A house with drafts will slowly have air changes and dissipate the gas. Sad to see this.
"Stack effect" can be an issue as well as whether the building envelope is neutral. Light a candle at your window and see if the flame moves toward the window or away. In it moves inward the gas would slowly build up.
Let’s eliminate all natural gas lines from connecting to homes and businesses….this happens too often. Where I live…we have natural gas going to power the power plants that send out electricity to the homes and businesses. Much safer and no houses or businesses have to explode or have leaks.
It's very, very rare. It doesn't happen too often, or often at all.
2nd home explosion in Maryland in 48 hours
@@robertherman1146 where was the 2nd one?
No it isn't.
I would never live in a home with gas. You are a ticking time bomb.

Charge the gas company for not doing enough inspections to keep them safe!
Exactly they should provide free service to their customers and pay for it by a surcharge on their bill
We never heard of exploding houses until the meth labs started.
grow ops in basements. the growers , often their best customers, would "vent" a gas (almost any gas, put usually propane) as plant LOVE inert gases. those same growers on site (first level) are usually high, and smoke cigarettes. propane is heavier than air. BOOOOOM. nothing left but the solid concrete entry stairs and a twisted iron railing.
They’ve been exploding since I was a kid, and I was born in ‘48. There are fewer now than back in the day.
So was an electrical issue that triggered a gas issue?
Not possible. Two issues.
Likely the owner tried to do his own work and got in over his head.
Happens all the time.
Wouldn’t that be negligent homicide??
Do you or your spouse know where and how to shut the gas off?
Why not?
If there is a gas leak and an electrical problem, why was the owner not told to leave the building?
Always, make sure your Contractors are Licensed, Bonded and Insured. There are too many people out here doing construction, utility and HVAC jobs, without the proper training and paperwork!
Wow, talk about a bad day.
I don’t think you need ‘apparent’ in this case.
"Apparent" home explosion. So it might have been something entirely different like an asteroid hitting the house?
Let’s not forget that fiber Internet installation is full steam ahead. often times, gas lines are cut. Who is doing the repairs? Are they qualified? Are they rushed to finish the job? I know that these companies are in and out of subdivisions as fast as they can.
@@LR-uk4dh yeah, I agree with that 💯💯.
How many houses exploded now?
Its sure is one hell of mess. 🤯
They have been putting in gas lines in town and I can tell you that who ever got the contract to lay the lines seems inexperienced. The lines are not deep enough from what I have observed and not below the frost line of 4 feet. It is too cold in the winter here and water lines, as well as other utilities are suppose to be down at least 4 feet to prevent frost heaves and freeze ups.
You're making assumptions as if they're true. "whoever got the contract seems inexperienced"? You have zero idea.
Smart meter?
That could have been my house. My gas bill kept going up but it was winter and the rates were increasing so I didn’t think anything of it until it tripled and then and contractor here to fix my fence said he smelled gas in the front yard. The neighbors had had a gas leak repaired. I never smelled anything in my house but I called a plumber anyway. He said there was a gas leak to my furnace under my house. The only reason mine didn’t explode is I had my furnace turned off and I have ventilation for the crawlspace under the house so the gas was constantly being blown through and out. It was still a very close call. I am livid the gas company didn’t notify me when my gas use went up so much. I obviously had a leak. The water company notifies me when there is an abnormal amount of water used compared to the previous month and the previous year.
I grew up in Maryland & I miss Maryland 💜👋🏾💃🏾
Not me. State never met a tax, fee, surcharge, or assessment it didn't like....
Funny how these home explosions keep happening all around DC.
It's very rare.

With the popularity and added efficiencies with trenchless technology (directional boring machines ) accidents like this become all too common nowadays. The strange thing is there’s no required licenses needed to operate such machines, yet the driver that delivers the machines to the locations for use needs to have a CDL but again anyone can operate the directional boring machine with limited experience and training (no license required). Strange world we live in.
I was a first responder for the gas utility in STL for 35 years and noticed firsthand the increase in damaged gas services & mains the minute these machines became so popular. The vast majority of utility damage is caused by machine operator error & poor utility marking.
many people have lost their sense of smell due to co-vid 19
I can't smell. Now I Will worry about that and I live alone and old.
This is why I refuse to have anything that uses gas.
But do your neighbors? If there's gas service on your street, there's still some risk. Though admittedly somewhat reduced. Many millions of homes have gas with no problems. This is very rare.

When’s the last time in all electric Home disintegrated like this? Sorry that was a trick question the answer is never.
It happens, just not very often. You've never heard of a house exploding?
A house could explode for a few reasons, hot water tank explodes, storage of flammable liquids explode, however when a house does explode it almost always is because of natural gas.
Who did BGE hire to do this?
Switch to electric? Ha
He shouldn't have been eating all those beans.
Sad.
Little feather of Pipestone MN. died when his place blew up due to a gas leak. This is a serious thing. At first notice of a gas leak you should open your windows and doors then call 911 and leave. Go a block away. Wait. Give thanks to god that you noticed and acted correctly.
If your home is less than 35 years or so old, it was most likely built by illegal immigrants and the utilities were installed by them also. They work according to 3rd world standards, because that's how they were trained, if they were even trained. That means they cut corners everywhere they can. The builders that hired them is long gone now, scamming new homeowners. All they have to do is pass the building code and the building code doesn't have anything to do with quality!
This Are So Sad!! I Think It Was A Gas Pipe Leak!! Of Some Kind.

Great now I won't be able to live one damn second in my home without thinking we are gonna explode 🥲
Check basement, crawl space, etc occasionally for anything amiss. If overly concerned, get a wrench to shut off gas at your meter just in case. Most often venting will be sufficient to prevent an explosion assuming the service is shut off somewhat promptly. Many of these incidents involve gas that's accumulated for a long time undetected. Often there are warning signs first. Sometimes not inside, but rather out near the meter or surrounding area. If anything seems wrong, strongly insist the gas company send a worker out to physically look.
I know, I shouldn't have read this article.
Well... either it's a wonder the dude lived till he was 73, or it's a wonder the other guy was a licensed contractor. Another strange gas explosion story in modern America. Probably caused by either building code violations.....or maybe global warming?
Yea that was my beloved Grandpa
for sale - fixer upper in established neighborhood
Hollie Causeway
This is caused by gas lines. Gas lines used for inside the house and outside. Gas probably built up to the point it exploded. The house was for sale and later thst same day it was going to be an open house. Well its a open house for sure plus the death of 2 people and damage up and down the street. If i lived there, after this, id be getting someone to inspect my hone sp something like this doesn't happen, particularly if its gas lines under ground and those running into the house.
