The old stove looked great but I questioned at the time how happy you would be with the cooking aspect. One of the things I like most about your channels and your approach to life is your willingness to constantly improve, even if it means redoing a prior choice.

Way to go Shawn !!! Great improvement for family living & greater wood-use efficiency. Can't complain when you can produce bread like that 👌👍Certainly had my taste buds salivating !!! Mother used to leave the oven door open to increase the room temp when not using the oven for cooking !!! 🇦🇺🤗💞🙏👌👍✌️👏🇨🇦

Great video. Great cookstove. I love mine too. 🔥 it heats my 1900sqft home beautifully so you will be very toasty in your cabin.
Ive used my Rosa L for a year.
Tips: make sure when you close it down, oil the underside of the rings as well as the top to prevent rust in warm weather.
There is a metal plate on the front of the stove, door open, under the oven. Remove it to access under the oven for easy cleaning and god forbid a bird gets in there (happen to us). The plate gives you access.
In the oven, the top shelf rack cooks higher and faster than the bottom shelf of the oven. Watch baking items on so they don’t brown too quickly.
You can buy additional oven racks and pans for this stove. They are $80 from Obadiahs in the US. Idk about Canada.
Hope you love it as much as we do. :)😊

I am a chef and I like the way you prepare your food but since quite some time I am thinking, you will need an oven .Not only for bread but also for casseroles or reheating for example pastry food like all sorts of pies etc. Well done, it’s a beauty.

We used to vacation up by Snow Road every summer since 1968. It was cottages with no electricity, no plumbing etc. Good water from the well, dishwater and such from the lake. Wood stove for cooking and heat if needed. They were white enamel cookstoves. Four removable plate burners, 2 with multiple rings. Oven next to the firebox. They also had a water tank in the side so there was water for dishes at least mostly warm. Also good for baths for tiny people. The new stove looks great and should be excellent to cook on .

We have heated and cooked with wood for decades. We always used Amish stoves, After two chimney fires caused by running our stoves too low, we bought a La Nordica soapstone version. At the time, we had lots of tippy toddlers running around the house so the soapstone was important. We are so happy with it. It easily heats our 1800 sq ft straw bale, house near Owen Sound. The oven temperature is easy to control, and the oven thermometer is actually accurate. For two seasons we have done our maple syrup on it without any issues. One of the things that I like the best is that when it is running well, you can see the gasses being burned in the fire box. There is no smoke coming out of the chimney. The only thing that we miss is the warming oven.

Ok, I see the tractor, I wondered how you got that beast to the porch in your other video, I know you want a small carbon footprint, and I don`t think it`s your style, but I follow Simple Living Alaska, and they purchased a tractor, moving heavy stuff, putting logs on the sawmill, snow plowing, you name it, they love it, and it saves your back, if it was me, I would have to have a tractor, I don`t have your strong back, baking , now we can see cooking with Shawn James, all the best to ya.

Seems like a small camp-style propane or white gas stove would work wonders to fill the gap when you want to boil a small pot of water in the colder months. This coming from a guy who lives in the desert of Arizona where we almost never need heat to keep the house warm.

Pretty smart. Making two channels, feature the same content but with a little twist: one silent + one talking = double the viewers (+ double the income?)
Anyhoo, I've watched most videos from Shawn since he poked around in the wood looking for a site for his previous cabin and Kelly was a puppy. And if not loving all of these videos about nature and homesteading and outdoor living/hunting and not least building, I like all of them.

Nice looking stove. Thought about buying that brand but bought a Lacunza instead. It had shiny chrome hinges and enameled front. I find myself staring a lot at those hinges, lol. Glad that you got a real wood cook stove. You deserve it.

That's a great stove, so much more useful than the old one (but the old one was prettier).
I was thinking that in hot weather it would be easy to make morning coffee or even breakfast on a twig stove set atop the cooktop - fast, fuel efficient, and easy to use.

I'm curious to see if you like how the new stove heats your cabin. I've always been told that Wood Cookstoves don't heat your home well. I hope you'll let us know your opinion of that as we live off grid in a small cabin and only have room for one stove . It sure cooked your delicious looking bread well!

That is a very nice expensive stove you took out of your cabin. That is also a very nice cook stove. I wouldn't just throw that other stove away you might add another room to your house sometime and might want to add some extra heat. I have been cooking on the same wood stove for 50 years. My stove is really a wood furnace. I can put a three-foot piece of wood in it. It loads from the side, It doesn't have a glass window; It has a blower on it but you can't bake with it like your new stove. It is a good video I enjoyed it.

Beats a Warm-Morning. Those things used wood cut really short 8-10 inches max and burned it as fast a locomotive does coal. If your skillets have fire rings they will keep the flames contained. Save the old stove, if I know you, you're not done building yet. Plus you gotta have a sauna. Thanks for another great episode!

I never knew the things you pointed out because you sure never showed it. The new stove will be super nice to have for those reasons. It looks pretty too. It will be nice being able to fix bread and biscuits. I fix sourdough biscuits all the time and have to best recipe after many and will never change it. Its from the channel called damn delicious. You have to make your sourdough a week in advance and it gets better as it ages! After first week i keep in refrigerator and feed once a week. I do put 1 tablespoon of sugar and one honey in place of the sugar. I suppose you could do both honey. Its the best you will ever have. I freeze my butter and shred it frozen. I use buttermilk also.
