He wasn't nice to them, he was annoying. And seriously, I had never seen the beginning of this movie until now and I always thought that his coworkers used to pick on him. However, someone recently uploaded the clip of the beginning of the movie when Elliot is at the office trying to interact with his coworkers and I just realized that none of his fellows berated or bashed him but that they were understandably exasperated by Elliot's own attitude.
@@christianjames92 Well, but the point is that Elliot wasn't really being mocked. This scene is the only one in the whole movie in which we see one of his colleagues unsuccessfully trying to mock him! If you rewatch the first scenes of the movie, before Elliott meets the devil, he was just being extremely annoying and unbearable to his work fellows and that's why they did not want to hang out or interact with him but other than avoiding him, none of them was mocking him.
In the beginning of this movie Elliot was awkward and annoying even if he was trying to be friendly. He couldn't read the room. His coworkers were right to be stand offish due to his behavior However his coworkers here were just plain being mean and making fun of him. That is not ok and I'm so glad he stuck up for himself. Lots of growth in his character from start to finish
If a person is a bit insecure, and behaves a bit quirky and doesn't know how to ''read the room'', his colleagues standoff behaviour isn't even justified. Elliot wasn't trying to be annoying, he just had low self-esteem, was a try-too hard person and was doing what he thought would help him be accepted, by the people around him. Not knowing that what he was doing despite his intentions, was having the opposite effect and leaving him open for torment and ridicule. If someone doesn't know better, you don't have to be their friend out of fake niceness or pity (as that's just low and just as bad as ridicule). But you don't have to bully or make them the pun of your jokes (as they were doing in the movie, when they dared him to talk to Madison and laughed at him for flopping). If there was a reasonably decent person among them, they would've pulled Elliot to one side and spoke to him. ''You're a nice guy and I know you're just trying to be friendly, but sometimes you can come across as a bit too full on or overly energetic, which can be a bit much sometimes. But this isn't a personal attack to you or saying anything bad. Just try to be calm and relaxed, you don't need to impress anyone, be you, and you don't have to try hard to be anyone's friend.'' But obviously, what fun would that be for them? As they'll no longer have the office ''performing monkey'' that can entertain them so that they can feel good about themselves or have someone to laugh at. Maybe the Devil in this movie was sneaky, mischevious and deviant, but at least towards the end, she was real with Elliot after he made his choice and gave him props which made him more confident and cool with himself.
You know? I love this movie and this scene describes how mankind is these days. People will not respect you until they see you have claws and fangs... Sad, but is true...
This taught me to stand up for myself. when I was in high school this punk was talking bad about my brother and me. One day he said something that anger me so I grabbed his shirt and backpack and pushed him to the wall. Without saying a word he got the point to stop messing with my brother and me.
Little different in my day. I had a bully when one day I just punched him in the face. He aired me out. The next time he went to bully me I punched him in the face again. He aired me out again. The last time he tried to bully me I gave him a 2 piece to the face. He left me alone after that. Eventually we became friends. The moral of the story is even the toughest guys don't like getting punched in the face.
That is Paul adelstein one of my favorite actors best known as Agent Kellerman from Prison Break. If you think he's a douche here, then you oughtta see him in that show hehe.
And i meant it’s probably more difficult watching the premiere with your wife and kids watching your character get emasculated is all. I didn’t think scary movies are scary to make. That was a very silly thing to think.
This movie should be shown in Human Relations classes in order to avoid conflicts.People that are too funny as people who are not as well must watch it.
I saw this movie back when it was in theaters, and could've sworn that the guy sinking down at 0:28 was creating the illusion of walking down a flight of pretend stairs. It's crazy how the things we saw in the past, are recalled somewhat differently several years later.
Unfortunately you couldn't stand up for yourself in that particular way nowadays without there being the possibility of legal repercussions or at least losing your job.
I know Elliot was annoying in the beginning but he thought they were his friends and just didn't like him. Sure he may have been oblivious but if you have no one and work around the same people all the time you will feel bonded even a little. They should have been nicer to him. And at least been honest. Its hard being alone and everyone's boundaries are different. But in the end he realized they weren't really friends. Its sad that people mock people who just need 1 person to be their friend. Lifes lonely ya know? The ending was great to me. And this scene. Even though I saw him in other movies before this, i still keep seeing him as rick O'Connell 😂 he was nerdy even in blast to the past and more weird in George of the jungle. Go Brendan youre awesome!

They were nice to him . Most people would told him off , but they tried to spare his feelings. I don't think they were mocking him . they were just joking him. He was joking with them the same way in the beginning of the movie . Yet when they do it its bullying ?. in the beginning of the movie he was mocking the female co worker for being late. He did it in front of everyone at work . He even made a joke that one of his , wo workers was whipped by his wife. . I would say they were giving him a taste of his medicine . He can dish out it but they cant handle it .
You have a point. But even those same "work friends" was with him in all his wishes and still wasn't really his friends. So i think its more like they was just making fun an mocking him instead of telling him the truth instead of making him feel betrayed and a joke. Its ok to play around with friends but they clearly wasn't his.

In the earlier scenes he was nice and wanted to connect with them but was way too overbearing, I can see why they found him annoying but shouldn't have mocked him either.
As much as I loved this movie, I wasn't crazy about this scene. There was no reason for Elliott to grab that Bob guy like that, all bully-like. Earlier, the coworkers never really bullied him, they just politely ignored him bc he was VERY weird and annoying. They should have had the coworkers do actual bullying in the first act to establish that this scene was warranted. Just not a good writing choice here. Elliott is a nice guy in the movie but not a bully. They should have had him stand up for himself using more confident means with looks and words, not grabbing anyone. Would have been more effective.
Yeah but he was just trying to fit in and make friends like everyone else does; not annoying to be annoying, but annoying without knowing it in the effort to be liked. Those guys he stood up to were bullies. Sure there is no obligation for them to accept Elliot into their social circle when it comes to going out or whatever, but trying to bully him for it is way out of line.
But if you were Elliot, and you had the hots for Carol rather than Alison, I think that display of strength would be a good tactic to make her hot for you (as Elliot).
He meant well and wanted to be friends but was totally not self aware how obnoxious he was, and not adjusting when they weren't interested. I'm sure it hurt him seeing them all vibing together and kicking it outside of work while he wasn't accepted into their social circle despite trying. Yeah it hurts seeing people in cliques while you're left out, but you can't make people want to be friends with you either. When it's clear someone doesn't fuck with you, back off. The movie actually does a good job portraying both sides
Elliot realized being a people pleaser is pointless.

A couple of facts about Hollywood is:
- acting in scary movies isn’t actually scary at all
- it’s always fun to play the bad guy
