Nice job mate,i just fitted a cheap Chinese ignition and it failed within 5 minutes,so put back on the original part with the lock delete and it works a treat 😊

With systems like this, I'm always wondering if there is a possibility for the steering wheel to get locked during driving? Leading to a disaster.

      Everything is possible...
There is a safety mechanism to prevent that from happening... but if this one fails...😬
      👍👍👍

New one only cost about €35,-
    They go bad many times.

Don't know where you are getting them from...
      Here VW wants over £200...

if you leave this car lock and key and put body and cables from another car does it need programming?

From my understanding, it is not a failure if there is an immobiliser installed... which it is...
And let the comments rampage starts...😄

I’ve never had a steering lock included on any mot test I’ve been to

Not a mot failure long as car is fitted with immobiliser

I wonder if he would get paid out by insurance if the car is stolen and the steering lock has been removed?

If you replaced it, what would be the programming procedure?

Why not just replace the columnlock?

      They are not cheap new...
And I can only do what the owner was willing to pay for...

From auto parts store new non oem lock costs under 30€. I bet they work just fine. The price tells that they sell them very much.

@@LMAutoRepairs I propably would order one and try on next case. Seems the same lock fits on a LOT of Volkswagens.

      I might will...
But I am always sceptical about cheap aftermarket parts...
When the OEM have comom failure points like these steering lock mechanisms, I am not sure how a cheap aftermarket is going to be any better...
      But might worth a go...
