  • Hey guys! In today's video we take a look at a 2013 Subaru BRZ. The owner of the vehicle lost his only key, so we were asked to come see if we could make a new one. After trying to program the key via OBD2, I quickly realized that this job was going to require more than just a simple programmer. Follow along as I show you how I used the Autel IM508 and the XP400 Pro to add an Xhorse XM38 Universal Smart key to this vehicle and get him back on the road!

Dont think locksmiths are going anywhere or youre going to be up against a lot of competition. If you tackle the hard stuff and go with the flow of tech you will be the one who gets paid! We automotive locksmiths (actually one of my guys) had to make a key for the Toyota version. The interesting thing is the chip designation it used also is a Subaru designation but completely different chips. In other words Toyota and Subaru use the same chip letter but are completely different. He couldn't get it going using Toyota programming. He finally figured out that the Toyota model uses a Subaru immo and chip. We have never seen this before but this car is a collab. We had to order the correct FOB. Had a Toyota emblem but Subaru chip. I just spoke to him and verified he did everything through the DLC port. No eeprom work required on the Toyota version. He used an Autel 608 which had the same key functions as a 508. We would charge $600 for doing what you did BTW. Our cheapest lost key is $250. We also use about 90% OEM fobs and keys. We had too many issues with aftermarkets. We also do not Lishi. If the lock is easy to pull meaning no door panel we do that. If it involves more we get codes from NASTF or a code broker. I realize this is a side gig for you but we run 80-150 of these calls a week. This is all we do so we don't have time to Lishi and possibly have it not work and waste a lot of time. We pay for codes and that's built into our pricing. We are mobile only. Sometimes we get calls for duplicates and I tell the people it will probably be cheaper to go to a brick and mortar instead of paying us for a service call. We also stopped doing rekeys and repairs. We just do lockouts and lost keys. It keeps us busy enough just doing that.

Sometimes programming keys requires unorthodox thinking. Trying different brands versions of the same vehicle is sometimes a good way to get it to work. Sometimes going up or down a few years in the programmer can get it to work. It’s frustrating sometimes but I like a challenge. Thanks for watching!

@@ADVANCEDLEVELAUTO You have learned quickly. The other thing you might run into is a Canadian car. We had a Toyota SUV late model and the owner lost the key. Using UHS' key finder it stated this was a push to start. Something wasn't right. Figured out it was a Canadian model. We have to do the before year and after years sometimes to get them going. If using an Autel on a Honda always choose no if it asks for a year verification. If you choose yes even if correct you will brick the BCM. Autel doesn't write correctly to Honda BCM's. Advanced Diagnostics Smart Pro writes correctly and will never ask for a date verification because it's not from the immo. It's the best programmer out there but very expensive and uses tokens. Our daily workhorses though are 508's and 608's.

Sometimes it lets read immo data and back up, then generate analogue. But some smart key box doesn't work.

I have several questions, so I appreciate your patience and help. 1) How did you know it was a Toyota immobilizing system and that IC300 was the only component involved (that's not mentioned in my Auto Smart 2021 books for the BRZ)? 2) The XM38 you're using - is it an XSTO03EN (I'm asking because the button configuration is different than my XSTO01EN boards - the buttons in mine are all in 1 column)? Where did you get the shells and circuit boards? Thank you so much for the in-depth video.
