    Extremely helpful Gary, thanks for this video. I have my first ever MC gig next week and I’ll be sure to put this all in to practice 😃
    Wish me luck!

    I like this a lot. I have been waiting to start with my stand up ffor 9 years and finally getting the courage to do it... I am 68 and have been shy under the impression that I would not be likable. Even though I have 37 years experience in On Camera Acting, I become freaking when it comes to stand up. I promise to sent you my updates. Thanks for this channel.

      Thanks for commenting. Indeed its very hard to transition from one performance type to another. I even found it very difficult to move from street performing (where the aim of the show was comedy) to stand up.
      How's it going for you?

    I’ve searched RUclips for help with stand up comedy and there is a lot, but it’s usually long winded and very American!
    This is the most relevant information for a UK comedian. Finally. Thanks.

      Indeed there are a few very good channels on joke writing and less on perfoming. I agree that they are long winded and sometimes "clickbaity" although there's definitely something to be learned from them.
      Delighted you're enjoying the channel and thanks again for the kind words.

      Thanks for commenting. I haven't hosted a comedy night in nearly two years. Since I've moved back to Dublin I'm performing different types of shows.
      I'm still considering the idea of running comedy gigs here, but currently, I've three different performing businesses in running, so I just haven't found the time. But you never know what could happen.

    Was wondering if you should think about it this way. Would it be better to find a venue by getting support first from local beer distributors and then once you're sponsored to do one, it will open up a host of venues because you then you already have the support of a local beer distributor so you already have that part covered?

    • @LetsTalkComedy
      @LetsTalkComedy  4 года назад

      I've been down the road of sponsorship from beer distribution before and it never really resulted in much. There is no/ or very little ROI for them regarding an open mic. A pro show would be a different story as it has potentially a much bigger reach especially if you were to start getting big names.
      This video is really aimed at those who'd want to MC an open mic as a way to gain experience and possibly progress on the comedy scene.
      I feel once sponsorships are being looked at you really need to have much more than a well attended open mic on your hands. Perhaps the way to go about it would be to have the bar get the discount from their distributer as a result of a certain beer being advertised hard at the night and then getting money from the bar for the night. But still is an incredible amount of work and I'd urge those who the video is aimed at to focus on setting up a successful night before searching for sponsorships.

    Enjoyed the course and the Tips. I am a stand up and MC'ng my first Battle of the Bands competition. I am opening for 10-15 minutes, then in between each act while they set up. I am hoping you info will work in this case. Thanks
