When me and my friends played this challenge, we fucked around only to be hunted around 75% sanity, the ghost zoomed around the map like a madman killing one of my friends and continued to hunt for ages after. It was absolutely terrifying, thinking it was Thaye we left and it turned out to be a BLOODY MIMIC!!!

The way how cursor works is that it draws a line from the center of your screen forward and if this line intersects an interactable object, then the cursor changes to tell the user that they are now pointing at an object which they can interact with.
The keyword here is the "line". The cursor is not actually shaped like the hand (like Insym here seems to think) and the size and shape settings in the menu only changes the size and the shape of the visual indicator. The actual cursor is still just an invisible forward pointing line in the middle of the screen.
This is because it's much more efficient (read. faster) to calculate if a line intersects with an object compared to if a cylinder (or some more complex object) intersects with an object. Using a cylinder instead of a line would cause performance issues... and a hand would definitely be a PIA to calculate.
The much more efficient alternative would be to increase the hitboxes of all intractable objects all across the board, so that the user don't have to point directly at the intractable objects to use them, but that might have looked very weird with the smaller visual indicator. Having too large interaction hitboxes would be much more confusing than the current ones which seems to be about the same size as the objects themselves.
Yeah agreed. Love him but occasionally he will have a very hard stance on something he clearly doesnt quite understand and its like dude please. lol that isnt how any of that works
i guess another take would be to instead of having a cylinder as you suggest, have 1 line in the middle and 8 or 16 extra lines in each cardinal direction (around the circumference of the cursor), where these extra lines' positioning would be based on the size of the cursor to match it. This would work because most of the items in the game are large enough that when a player tries to pick up an item, the hitbox of the item touches both the middle and the circumference around the cursor, so even if you miss the hitbox like Insym did, in this scenario the lines positioned around the circumference would catch the item. (also prioritize the line in the middle when multiple items are inside the radious, or take the item that has more lines intersected if there is not an item in the middle)
Following this idea, i think the larger the cursor, the more lines it should have, because sometimes a larger cursors could have a "disadvantage" or bug where in some cases the circumference would be touching an item by a tiny margin but because its not in one of these lines it wouldn't be able to be picked up (max lines would depend on a balance between performance and usability ofc)
11:30 - Insym is totally right here about how the challenge can be negated by just playing safe and collecting evidence normally. I'm a new player but I was able to clear this challenge fairly easily by just staying in the light and taking sanity pills.
Most of the weeklies are like that now with the sanity rework. As long as the breaker works, most of the challenges are pretty easy (on single player).
@@-Keith- Isn't there still the sanity drain bug where as long as the light switch is in the on position it stops sanity drain in that room?
@@Blitzcreeper239 No, that was fixed pretty quickly after the update to the sanity system in a hotfix iirc.

Strangely enough, didn't die on this one but did last week's challenge the hare when the ghost started a haunt right in front of me.
I got a funny scenario with the hare and tortoise weekly. In the hare weekly i got moroi and 2 thayes but didnt die. This weekly i got a deogeon in my first trial which made way too confident and i died to an oni later.
I can tell if the ghost is a myling if it steps through the salt and cannot hear any footstep sounds.
Wow. I wonder if that's intended and consistently works that's way or is it a bug. Mylings can be heard up close during hunts but it would be strange to zero footstep noise walking through salt and the player witnessing the salt getting stepped through up close

The same exact thing happened to me with a demon in this challenge! I didn't think it was a hunt, and by the time I figured it out, I couldn't escape 😂
I play in vr mode all the time now, so in the second game the demon made an attack earlier and that room was the upstairs corridor.
Hi insym! Have you tried measuring the distance for myling footsteps vs any other ghost on the 3rd tier parabolic microphone?

Just did this challenge, first ghost was Onryo which kept blowing out our candles but not hunting. Decided to hunt at 75% sanity beside the front door and absolutely destroy our duo speedrun. Attempt 2 and 3 was easy and hell though.

You should make a challenge where once you enter the house, you should never leave it unless you're entering/exiting the mission.
Insym doesn't make these challenges, the devs do, still would be a cool challenge
He already has, it's called the Locked In challenge! :D
He did a video where he locked himself in the ghost room with the monkey paw and had to solve the ghost before it killed him in 1 minute.

@@ColdCutTrio Yeah, but does it involve leaving the house or perhaps the ghost room? My point is if he leaves the house, challenge ruined; he shouldn't leave the house according to the challenge.

This may be a weird thing to ask but after watching many phasmo videos to improve I noticed that my weakest point is positioning, it'd be really nice if you could explain in one of these videos where should players position during the investigation depending on the ghost type/sanity etc.
I can identify ghost without any evidences but I always die by being in the worst spot when the hunt begins 💀

I died only once on this challenge. Just found the ghost room, got set up, and got hunted at 90% sanity. Fucking demon caught me off gaurd. I couldn't get away.
26:41 What I meant is that it kinda makes sense that the devs just wanted to make their job easier by just making the cursor bigger visually and since you can make it smaller, you can still pick up things the same for any size (if that makes any sense lol)
How do you do this. I play on amateur and set random cameras up with many dots and get out before the no hunt time is up. When I'm inside withing that time, I get goosebumps and rapid heartbeat if the ghost even BREATHES on me. I've been playing this for the past 3 days HOW MAN.
My friends and I got it no problem just getting all three evidences and keeping our sanity up with pills. I don't think we even had a hunt in all three games.

I was so scared to play bc I'm not use to being so slow, but I did it! I got Deogen, Raiju, and Wraith. Raiju kept scaring me and it was interesting seeing the Deogen because it was constantly moving through the dots.
Me and a bud played yesterday, and the last run we needed, (first two were dummy easy) but we were just getting our last piece of evidence, and it was a raiju. We had the lights on, and that mfer killed us both in two seconds flat
@@shaunearle3223 I haven't gotten a lot of Raiju in my games before so I didn't expect it to scare me and be so active. Thought I was going to die at one point XD
Should had remember about the electronics but I didn't.
The players who are good enough to bypass the hunting mechanics, arent good enough to speedrun the game with the knowledge that veteran players have. No need for 2 difficulties or to raise it because for those players who never try to get hunted, the games too immersive and slow paced to want to be hunted. Most players at that level aren't looping ghosts, they are evidence hunting.
Oh this challenge. I had 2 thaye's and a yokai in this one i think xD That shi scary

Tbh the hare version was harder
I'm pretty sure "Rook" isn't new, i noticed it quite a while back, like half a year i'd say, there' also "Knight" as another chess last name. But you have a much larger timeframe than me, obviously, so i might still be wrong about that in a way
For me it was really easy challenge , ghost was giving evidences so frequently, so my sanity had no time to drop down 😁😁

Could you do a guide on ghost sounds…I’m a new player and can’t tell the difference between window taps and door taps keyboard tabs ect..please 😅😅
a good way to figure out is to make a custom game and make the ghost as active as possible and turn on friendly ghost so it can’t hunt you! that’s what i did and it helped immensely. bring it an emf so you can see what specifically the ghost touched

I think I found a bug in Phasmophobia, I don’t know if it was possible before the update, but I found a way to duplicate items. You can only duplicate up to the item’s truck max capacity.
If you own at least one item, and you add twice very fast, you’ll have one extra of that item. For example, if I have 0/4 headgears, but I have one in storage, and I add twice very fast, it’ll give me 2/4 headgears, instead of the 1/4 headgear I should have in the truck. Then I can repeat the process, having 1/4 headgears but having one in storage, add twice very fast, and I’ll have 3/4. And I can repeat the process one more time.
Edit: I found this after they changed the shop/equipment manager/loadouts display.

The cursor hitbox hasnt changed. It just doesnt fare well with the different hitboxes of the items

Me and my friend played this, went 3 for 3, that was one of the easiest 5000 of our lives
My game still freezes on the 1st game of the day but usually gets better as i play.
I have mine reversed. I use finger for starting and when actually trying to grab something it switches to dot
Crosshair for regular cursor, circle for interact with object. Only way to go if you've played a lot of FPS games.
I like this as well. As long as when you go to select something its the dot works best imo@@-Keith-
I had two demons... Challenge's cursed
this is great, prey to get a hunt instantly die and get out twice. Boom 2 done already lol. I had a yurie and didnt even get to find the room before it shut the front door with no event the other two never gave me final evidence but got them anyway.
this was the first challenge i did and i did all 3 first try (i was level 25) (i have 20 hours in phasmo)
22:43 someone tell Insym you cannot appear to light t2 smudges outside of your own hands anymore, tables and the truck wall don't work even when holding a lit lighter
Insym was trying to grab it, not light it on the table, if he wanted to light it he would've had the lighter on his hands

I Don't know about this one. I did three runs, got the evidence and got out. Never got a hunt, felt likt the easiest challenge. Think I got lucky lol

actual cursor, not graphics, always have been single pixel on center of the screen. Or at least if you play with mouse&kb. And if you increase radius(for example, making same radius as interact icon) , it will create some annoying moments, if two items placed very close to each other, game will probably pick not the item you want, basically same thing with photo priority right now.
At least, if that would be optional thing, maybe someone will prefer that function, but definitely not for me.

i needed money so i did the challenge mode and got hunted first second im in the house, and know i have the rare demon achievement.😅

You should change your user color to orange.
The fact that my cursor settings is also being dot with red colour says it all. I guess only true gamers understand why the red dot cursor is the best !
