About Ryunohara: Ryunohara is a kominka cafe nestled deep in the mountains of Ryujinmura, Wakayama Prefecture. We make our own tea from wild tea plants, and serve it at Ryunohara Kissa, where you'll also find a small library of books about Japanese culture. We also serve Singaporean Hainanese satay skewers alongside stewed meats, fried rice, and other dishes that showcase ingredients from across the Kishu region. The two buildings on the property are traditionally-built 60 and 120 year-old farmhouses, .

Wow, this is cool. Hard work, it looks like! I was Googling recently why white rice is cheaper than brown rice since it's more processed, and found out more about how rice is processed and harvested, and now here I am! Thanks for showing this.

@@Ryunohara unfortunately I cant afford the plane ticket to get to you. I am not sure if it will grow here. I would have to build a structure to fill it with water. I think I will just continue to watch you do it. :))

We are harvesting ours next week. A binder machine can be bought second hand for about $500 in Japan if you look hard enough. We only have to harvest by hand about 1% of our crop.

The transplanting was done by hand very unevenly so while Naoko-sensei’s family has machinery we can’t use it on this field.

You’re welcome! The rice does grow in beautiful surroundings. I love how the fields have a view of mountains, the sound of flowing water, and the voices of children in the kindergarten next door.
