Here we sundried rice then we pound it with pestle and mortar...a big one. Then we wind them to let the husk flew away

I'm in the process hot and heavy in the greenhouse and DIDN'T REALIZE that my hubby brought home some Baker Creek rice seeds!! I LITERALLY FOUND THEM TODAY!!!! I'm going to do a self wicking pot for them just as an experiment to see if it works, I ALWAYS try something new every year to see how things grow, I appreciate your input and you have given me food for thought. Thank you and I'll let you know how my experiment works in about 100 days!!!👍👍👍 Never grew rice before..... HERE GOES NOTHING!!🤣🤣

I have threshed wheat by putting the heads in a coffee can with the bottom cut out and replaced by 1/4" hardware cloth. That takes time, but would work well for small quantities of wheat. The problem with rice--and the reason I have never considered growing it--is that the hulls hold pretty hard to the seed. Maybe you could rub the grains between a couple of pieces of wire window screen to scrape off the hulls?

So happy you did this video! 2nd year I’ve tried all the internet tips & nothing worked (also not buying a machine! Lol!). I’m good having seed to grow beautiful plants!

Hi I am new to your channel and I can not wait to start my own tiny farm. I want to grow rice and many other kinds of foods. I plan to purchase my new home next year. Your videos are amazing! Keep up the great work! I live in Florida so I’m hoping the weather helps out when I start growing. Thank you for all you do!

That’s awesome! Yes you will have a different schedule for planting than me. In florida you can start tomatoes in February!

I too think that the rice grown in pots is beautiful. Question, when planting in May do you plant the rice with the hull on?

Dang, self sustainable crop dreams dashed. We eat a cup of rice a day most days of the year. I'd need a lot of land to make that viable 😅

I think I’ve figured out how to get it dehulled! Par-boil it!

  • @dojodance

You have to dry the rice very well to get the hulls off easier. I gave up on water paddy type planters, and grow dry land rice.

What if you turned the bucket on its side while running the drill? That would bring more of the rice in contact with the high-velocity parts of the chain.

What if you tried rolling the seed between your two silicone mats for a little while and then putting it in there and whipping it around with the chain and see what happens like maybe just loosen the hull a little bit and see if it works.

I’ve tried, it doesn’t work. You really need a proper defiling device to be harvest efficiently for consumption. I’m going to continue to grow it for the seed to grow again the next year. It doesn’t have to be about eating it.

Try two wood cutting boards and invent something don't let this stop you from growing rice it amazing. Question ❓ where to buy a bulk of long grain where I bought it I won't go back because they have bad shipping and don't pack it right

I succeeded last Summer (2021) in growing rice by following your instructions - Thank you. After your harvest, what do you do with the plant and soil? I am getting ready to plant my 2022 rice crop. I cut the dead leaves to use for compost and mulch. Also emptied the pot (lots of roots) and will add new composted humus. Is that what you do? Thank you.
