      They honestly still have a a bit of fluff that could lead to new units, plus some CA concept art. Truffle Hounds, Herrimaut as a better archer unit, Lost Sons as elite magic/ethereal cav, Hermit Knights as elite infantry, Questing/Heraldric Beasts as giant grounded monstrous cav, Fey Spirits as some kind of ethereal flanking unit. They have some stuff to work with for sure.

      One place CA could turn to for inspiration that I haven't seen mentioned often is the Bretonnian Navy. Per the lore it's the most powerful human navy in the Old World, with ships crewed by a mixture of mercenary buccaneers, elite men-at-arms, and aristocratic marines. The latter, in fact, are the one indisputable lore example of the "foot knights" that some of the fans keep clamouring for: lords from places like Bordeleaux and L'Anguille are as likely to send their sons to sea as they are on an Errantry Tour, and the result is that many Bretonnian ships carry a crack force of dismounted Knights-Errant or Knights of the Realm acting as marines.

    I really hope the next update/dlc CA do include updates to bretonnia's unit roster/campaign mechanics. They have so many holes in their lineup, like I wish you could dismount or recruit dismounted versions of some of their more heavy duty cav units like grail knights, similar to how you can do in CA's historical games. I never understood why they have some epic mounted knights, but then as far as foot infantry we are stuck with peasants and militia men that get chewed up by practically anything. I also think we are overdue for updates to tomb kings and norsca, as their roster lineups are seeming a bit slim compared to other factions. But I know we need the other two chaos faction's to get dlc packs so who knows what is next? Bretonnia DEFINTELY needs to be in it though.

    Bretonnia is one of those factions that they’re the most realistic and fun to play but at the same time really hard to work around its mechanics. Like for the Empire all you really need to worry about is your reputation and prestige.
    The developers just need to buff Bretonnia melee infantry so they can actually kill without the need for Melee cavalry and give them one of Grand Cathy’s construct, like make it an Angel Construct that does double damage to Chaos and undead.

Sure I can TRY to use my foot soldiers as meat shields but it does not matter. As the enemy will ALWAYS focus half of his army on my horses and nothing else. So even my cavalry can't do shit. I'm not sure why you never mention the anti-large bonus some of these units get, like Alberic or the Knights of the Realm. This is literally the biggest difference between them and Leoncoeur and the Knights Errant.
    Also, tier 1 archers non armour-piercing in a roster in which they're not the specialty in the late game? I know you like to present balanced army composition and try to avoid doomstacks as much as possible, but this is simply too much... Their garbage units at this point of the game and that's it... A balanced Bretonnian late game (or even mid-game) army should be a nigh only knights army, and you mix up knights units, like adding Grail Knights for anti-large to your composition, instead of Peasants Archers.
    Otherwise, great video as always.

      Yes. I've played a Louen campaign recently, and definitively, their peasants units except trebuchets and two or three poisoned arrows peasants (for the poison, nothing else really) are everything you should get past the mid game.
      A bretonnian late game army for me is more like a lord, a damsel, one or two paladin, some grail guardian for the frontlane, a mix of grail knights and royal hippogryffs knights for the hammer playstyle, two blessed trebuchets and some poison archers.

    • @LordSevarg
      @LordSevarg 22 дня назад +1

      My late game Bretonnian army is actually two armies that stick together permanently. The first is a 100% Cav army (usually 100% flying) with a Life Mage, who's Lord is red line spec'ed for cav and a 2nd army that follows it around with spears, archers, a ton of trebs, and a Lord spec'ed for Peasants. The 2nd army is really there for sieges, adding a bit of a cheap meat shield (if needed), and boosting the Auto-Resolve of the 1st army without actually costing very much.

    grail reliques (i cant spell it shut upp) have a very good buff sure but the thing is bc its so slow it wont buff the cavalry. And you dont want peasents bc they suck the only good peasent units are the mounted yeomen peasent bowmen with pox arrows and trebuches and a grail relique takes upp an army slot that could be used to recruit a knight unit

  • @LandofMert76
    @LandofMert76 Год назад +3

    I love the lore of the Brets, but the micro manage would drive me nuts. And the peasant balance sounds like to much of a pain. Does that tier 1 list wack your peasant economy? Or do the pole arms not come from that category?

    • @garroshhellscream594
      @garroshhellscream594 Год назад +4

      Everything that isn't a knight or a damsel is considered a peasant unit, even foot squire.
      So yes, I pretty much think that kind of early game comp isn't really well suited for more than one army. It's really easy to access a paladin and knights errands, so you should get them asap.

    Bretonnia needs a rework probably more than any other faction. More than that they need like a whole new race pack, I don't care if I'd have to pay for it but good lord they need some help, they need new archers, new arty, new foot troops, new mechanics and new everything really. Its sad because I like their aesthetic and what they're going for, its just really old and poorly implemented. Hell if they bought a new lord in who had some solid infantry and some new mechanics for the faction it would be a great start.

    • @KC-kl6qc
      @KC-kl6qc Год назад

      The problem is that Bretonnia has an absolutely tiny roster, even on the tabletop. Only a smattering of units in the game (battle pilgrims, foot squires, grail relique) are not from the tabletop.
      And besides, the whole point of Bretonnia is Cavalry, it's the Cavalry faction for all your Cavalry needs and Cavalry wants in your weird Cavalry fantasies. They are, if you'll pardon the pun, a one-trick pony and are written and designed to be that way from the ground up.
      I agree that their mechanics need shaking up, and perhaps they could do with another Legendary Lord, but there's not much that can be done for the roster.

    • @climax050
      @climax050 Год назад

      @@KC-kl6qc The worst bit for me is, they get beaten at their own game in terms of cav. Hippos from the empire, blood knights, chaos knights and all their new and different flavors (and amazing new looks), the monstrous cav from the orges and now the bull centaurs from the chaos dawi are all not only more viable because they have decent infantry and other things to support, but also much more fun and much more enjoyable to use.

    • @KartarNighthawk
      @KartarNighthawk Год назад +1

      @@KC-kl6qc Then they need to actually have the best cavalry. Which they currently don't. Numerous factions have had better cavalry for a while, and game three buffs to numerous factions cavalry speed have closed the gap between them and those that are below them. So either their cav needs a massive buff, or it's time to stop pretending that it should be their only thing and give them some half decent infantry.

      @@Centrioless you have a point, but does it really matter if they have perfect vigor if they get crushed by similar units from half a dozen other factions who also have other tools?
      Its not that they're cavalry is bad, its just that they don't have the top dogs in the only thing they're good at. I would like to see them get some other medieval style units, because the empire beats them at their own medieval aesthetic and on top of that they have their insanely fun tools and mechanics and some pretty mean cav to round it all off.
