Right from the start of this video I thought "I wish we had something like this in America" but then i remembered how in the 80's we did have subway graffiti, but instead of encouraging the artists we criminalized them and that makes me sad
graffiti isnt the same as the paintings on these trucks. These paintings are done by the rightful owners. India's metro railways arent painted like this. They have uniformed design and a section for advertisement which seperates itself from the design. NYC's subway is done on govt property and the graffiti was sprayed by spoiled brats and gangs who doesnt know how to respect public property.
While it's true that it was state property they were drawing on, I think a better solution would have been to have state sanctioned graffiti events, where these kids would be allowed to decorate the cars with their designs, that way fewer people would have entered the prison system and perhaps a new graffiti art system would have been formed in the city creating a new tourist industry.
@@tamarlambert6121 sorry bro but that would lead to undisciplined misuse of paints. Public property isnt for expressing your art. you should stay at home and draw or use your computer to express your ideas. or buy a vehicle and paint as you wish.
@@goodmorningwhyyugei7668 there was already undisciplined use of paints, I dont think there's a causal link to an increase in property defacement since the city was already saturated by graffiti artists especially given that the city at that time had little to no art programs in the public schools these kids were attending at the time. Making a NYU metro graffiti art program as far as I can see would only eliminate a measurable chunk of the taggers, especially given the rules of graffiti tagging (no marking another person's most recent artwork)
@@tamarlambert6121 just because there is doesnty mean we should promote it. What an owner does to his trucks is his choice. Subways and metros are govt properties. Indian metro doesnt have any such designs so your statement doesnt make sense. There are countless ways to express art. Respect public property.
Tbh I really like jeepneys but I really do believe that traffic will be better in Metro Manila if there weren't any jeepneys or they implement new measures for the use of jeepneys
And also these drivers though you feel deceptive sometimes are mostly one of the nicest guys. You could have really nice and long conversations once you know their language.

Since many of the drivers are Sikh, eagle symbolises the pet (maybe factually incorrect) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh, the last Sikh guru. It is a symbol of strength and resilience for many.
@Proud Bangladeshi গর্বিত বাংলাদেশী Also Hindu takes gurus as any another god so they don't care if religious symbols of Sikhism or any other Dharmic religion are made.
@@Snp2024 agreed. Hindus have no strict say in the gods to be worshipped. I have many people who also worship & use garlands for the idols of Jesus Christ because there's lots of christians nearby. Hindus worship Sikh gurus especially in Punjab, raise their first child as a sikh, and even idolate central religious figures Gautama Buddha & vardhaman mahavir & Sufi saints like sai baba as deities(not gods, deities) because they were born on our land. The only God I've never seen a Hindu worshipping is "Allah", which is pretty obvious considering the Islam's history in india as barbaric conquerors & Muslims are usually very conservative & isolationist about their religion & god.
Nope, all you see is a big orange mass at night. These trucks are not allowed inside the core of cities and they mainly run on highways having farms on both sides. Also there are no street lamps on majority of the track so it's really dark. All you see when the headlight hits the back of the truck is blow horn and use dipper at night painted on the back bumper. Nothing else.
I am an Indian but never really paid this much thought and attention to the brilliant art all over our trucks. This makes me appreciate and admire them much more. Thanks Vox for appreciating things even natives take for granted.
Its probably mentioned else where in the comments but these really reminded me of narrow boat art in the UK. These people worked and lived in their boats and the art on them was an expression of their lives and a way to bring colour to an industrial landscape. Great job Johnny, going to enjoy this series.
*6:44**:* The 'eagle' is *'Garuda'* , the animal consort' and 'vehicle mount' of the god Vishnu, who along with Brahma and Shiva, form the Hindu 'trium godhead', somewhat analogous to the Christian 'god the father', 'god the son', and 'god the holy Ghost'. Garuda is modelled on the image of the *'Brahmani kite'* .

Come on Vox, I was waiting for the poetry behind the trucks, quite inspiring 😂😂, well I guess that will be a saperate episode altogether 😂
😂😂😂 maybe he couldn't read it bcoz it's in regional language 😂 but you are right he missed that
Season 2 maybe
They found 1 at 5:12
This was such an incredibly edited & shot piece of film 🙌
*Can we just appreciate their editing for a second?*
I love this! Thank you for showing this! My artist heart is swelling.
Philippine’s Jeepneys are also a work of art. You should make a video about it.
Press the like button so Vox will notice it.
that's exactly what i was thinking of too
similar origin as well
Kahit anong plano I-phase out mga jeepney sa pinas, hinding hindi mangyayare yon haha
Tbh I really like jeepneys but I really do believe that traffic will be better in Metro Manila if there weren't any jeepneys or they implement new measures for the use of jeepneys
Hmmm... I would love to watch something on it too
And also these drivers though you feel deceptive sometimes are mostly one of the nicest guys. You could have really nice and long conversations once you know their language.
Philippine Jeepney: We have beautiful jeeps!
Indian trucks: Hold my wheel
Excuse me po ha...
Have you seen the jeepneys near NAIA?
Or the ones in boracay?
Yung mga dating jeep maraming abubot at drawing pero ngayon iilan na lang meron
Pakistani trucks: hold my gulaab jamun
@@FaizanAhmed-bt8xg hahaha....bhuk lag gayi bhai naam sunke hi....we indians say " usme naa gulab hai, na jaamun hai, fir bhi naam gulab jamun hai" 😃
vaibhav satpute ahahahan han bilkul
"Has mat pagli pyar ho jaayega" is also an art😂
VICE Asia did a video on this a week ago
IMO VICE Asia did a better job on this one
Guess the fox is catching up
Yeah but. I like jhony borders better. The feels just more meaningfull.
Vice and vox are the same media company peeps.
Both videos were good in their on styles
The way vox covers everything is just amazing. And especially their animations, they gave so much attention to details in their animations in this video, it just brought a smile to my face.... All credits to the team as a whole who made this video.
I remember seeing these while in India. I miss India so much
It's been an year and you aren't still here
@Khushi Bidhuri sad life 😢
Since many of the drivers are Sikh, eagle symbolises the pet (maybe factually incorrect) of Sri Guru Gobind Singh, the last Sikh guru.
@Proud Bangladeshi গর্বিত বাংলাদেশী what question did you ask?
@@piyushvaidya5086 Wow !good explanation brother! .
4:10 so satisfying
"Buri 👁️ Wale 13 👄 Kaala" : The Best Line I've Ever Seen 😂
Let's face it these trucks are better than those Mercedes trucks without windshield.
They're beautiful in the night when lights reflect from the art!
@@vikasbalani4310 thanks. I was imagining stuff
yup!!!
I am an Indian but never really paid this much thought and attention to the brilliant art all over our trucks. This makes me appreciate and admire them much more. Thanks Vox for appreciating things even natives take for granted.
johnny's really outdoing himself with the editing in each video that comes out huh
The animations and typefaces in this video were beautiful. It's very apparent that you spent a lot of time and thought on it and it is *greatly* appreciated. It really brought the video to life.
