    The screen on the camera issue is also because a lot of summer camps don't allow any electronics with screens. Weirdly, a lot of "designed for kids" cameras also have games and various things built in. So this was also to make something simple and compliant with summer camp rules. My 7 year old has been using my old lumix lx3 and I'm probably getting her one of these so that she can literally just keep it in her backpack and not worry about "dad's camera." Lots for her to learn on the lumix, but for "easy kid photos," this appeal to me greatly as a dad.

    I like the simplicity. I switched to a flip phone recently and a cool cam like this could be great for trips. It's lightweight, isnt too expensive and can't expect much but seems to do the job

    Great review! I’ve been enjoying mine quite a bit. I got bitten by the IG ad too and jumped on the OG in yellow. Just ordered the v1.5 and I’m excited to try it out.

    I use a Fuji XT4, but I am blown away by what I have been getting with my Camp Snap camera. It really goes to show that it really isn't the gear that makes an image good.

    Those photos are better than I expected for the price. There are a ton of "cheap" cameras on the market that split engineering costs between a tiny sensor, a screen and control options... seems like ditching everything else allows Camp Snap to give you the best experience you can with the simple hardware.

  • @bwc1976
    @bwc1976 Год назад +4

    Looks great! I love the idea of something I can throw around like a cheap film camera but without the time and expense of developing and scanning. And a lot of the pictures you've taken look as good or better than film scans from an equivalent camera. I just hope the price doesn't keep creeping up even further before I have the chance to buy one.

  • @zimin175
    @zimin175 Год назад +1

    Looks awesome! I've always loved the concept of not having screens, whether because it allows me to be more 'in the moment' or because I just want to minimize so called 'photo chimping'. In addition to film cameras (obviously no screen), I've used the Fujifilm X30 and X100V both of which have EVF and I've had long periods where I totally just switch off the screens and only rely on the EVF when I want or need to. The Xpro3 has also been in my list and provides an option to flip the screen so it emulates more of that film/no-screen experience. So, I do think there's actually a very large audience for cameras like these. To me and likely many other people, there's magic in taking shots without knowing what they would look like and only being able to see them later. But this mostly reminds of the Papershoot cameras (which has been quite viral on TikTok) which has no screen and just as lo-fi.

    Interesting! I used to cover my Fujifilm X100 screen with black sticker. I want to get the "film experience" to the next level, so I get a few 1GB SD cards.
    On my original X100, 1GB equal 40 RAW photos. Almost the same as 36 frame for 1 roll of 35mm film. Then, I use daylight wb and fixed ISO (usually I choose either 200, 400, or 800). I restrict myself to use the optical viewfinder of my X100 (this camera have a hybrid of optical/electronic viewfinder). Voila! I have a digital version of Konica Hexar AF!
    Of course I have to process the RAW files, but I create a film simulation preset on ACR so the process is very fast.

      Check out “flashback” they’ve just run their kickstarter campaign, a friend of a friend started it. Similar concept as you mentioned where it caps you at 30 images, you then have to transfer them to your phone and wait 24hrs to see them! Also they’re doing some nicer film sim / procedural grain

    • @SuperJackjackie
      @SuperJackjackie Год назад +8

      Maybe not a day cap, but a digital threshold of 30-40 pictures, which must be exported to a phone together or deleted all 30-40 photos altogether. You know, disposable vibe😬

    This camera seems a lot more durable for kids than the papershot camera. It's also substantially cheaper too, so not as much of a loss if it gets damaged or stops working. Been looking at both these cameras recently a way to introduce my 6yo to photography to give her a camera she can take everywhere. Currently she has a Fiji FinePix Bridge camera which is a little bulky to be taken out all the time.
    Really like what papershoot camera offers with its 'filter cards' for colour/film emulations. In the early 2000's I fell out of love with photography - well, digital photography, it was too perfect. I ended up jumping back to film and became obsessed with 'lomography' the LC-A and Holga and shot with other retro rangefinders obsessively. I said at this time that someone would make an absolute killing creating a digital camera that had film emulations and could do things like simulated lightleaks, film etc.

    If you're into cameras that are impossible to look at, apart from the Leica M10-D, you also have the option of choosing PIXII.
    I feel like this is more of a camera that allows children to focus more on the fun of taking pictures.

    • @trevorandrew8726
      @trevorandrew8726 6 месяцев назад +1

      Heck yeah man only $3k more for the pixii 😂 I agree with your take on the camera, but I also think this is very suited to more rugged outdoor activity than a full blown set up. I don't like taking my Fuji with me in my little aluminum boat cuz It cost me twice what the boat did. This would be a perfect little camera to keep in a tackle bag or storage hatch. At $60, if it gets wet or dropped in the river it's not a big deal and it seems perfectly serviceable for getting pics of a cool fish or a pretty sunset.

  • @cdl0
    @cdl0 Год назад

    Also at the luxury end of the market is the French-made Pixii camera for about €2700, which uses a rangefinder for focussing, and has no screen.

  • @jbmaillet
    @jbmaillet 4 месяца назад

    As an almost-boomer that "upgraded to film" a dozen years ago, if it could limit itself to 24 or 36 pictures, it could be interesting for teachers and students of photography: "OK, so you have 1 roll of 36 digital exposures, go and see what you can make of it in a couple of hours". This could work without an SD card, just a bit of internal memory and a USB connection (not only for charging I mean), but this would make it actually more expensive.

    • @wintrymix
      @wintrymix 4 месяца назад

      Ooh, it would be cool to have internal memory just big enough to fit 36 photos, AND an SD slot if you don't wanna play that way.

    Interesting review, but in fact, this is just a toy camera that tries to create a mix of experiences between analog photography and photography with digicams. It reminds me of some of the first digital cameras from the 90s that didn't have an LCD or even a remake of the Holga Digital. Better to rescue some vintage digital equipment with a CCD sensor from the drawer and get more interesting results without harming the environment with more plastic.
