The Caroline (International self defence)

The Caroline Affair was not only instrumental in establishing the border between Canada and the USA; it was also important because it established the meaning and limits of self-defence for international law purposes. The test established in this case helps us to tell real national self defence, from "pretend" self defence where self-defence is used as a pretext to invade another nation.
