    Speaking of remade cutscenes, remember at the start of the game when Samus loses her upgrades after the explosion? Well, instead of a big bright flash covering up the model swap, in the remastered her power armor slightly glows and you can see parts like her shoulder pads disintegrate showing a flawless transition between the two suits.

      Yeah, it was the same with the Devil May Cry HD remasters, a RUclipsr did a good job outlining how effects like this after image on certain attacks were missing.
      The Metroid Prime remaster has a lot of good improvements,.and had other things that seem either overdone (Samus's glare was just fine on the original without rubbing your face in), or not to my taste (The hud bouncing just seems unnecessary, and I prefer the original hud design).,
      But I'm also a gamer who saw what bad graphics really are, and the fact is I could play a PS2 over composites on an HDTV and find something to impress, so I think visual fidelity has left me behind. I can appreciate all the advances in an abstract way, but I'll never really feel the difference between playing Dead Space on the Xbox 360 and the Remake on a PS5 on more then a superficial level.
      I sometimes wonder how many gamers (Actual gamers, not devs who understand the details) actually do get something out of it who haven't read the dev notes or seen comparison videos with game journalists telling them exactly what they are looking at

    strange to see they added environment illumination with the magmoor flamethrowers, but removed it from the beam weapons.
    also, nice to see the thermal visor much more accurately reflect a real life FLIR camera, including the motion blur.

    • @BoltFraction
      @BoltFraction Год назад +16

      I've looked into this myself, since reactive beam illumination seemed like a pretty huge atmospheric detail to cut. The general consensus seems to be that - given the hugely upscaled textures and overall graphical load of the game compared to the original - that processing those beam lighting changes on the environment in real time would just be too demanding on the Switch's hardware, and would result in the games' framerate taking enough of a hit to be deemed unacceptable. Thus, the effect was regrettably cut.

    • @The_Ostrich
      @The_Ostrich Год назад +4

      @@BoltFraction
      Lol thats just wrong, the missiles, super missiles, plasma beam, boost ball and power bombs all cast dynamic light. You can even use a hacked Switch to monitor the GPU usage durring live gameplay and find there is always enough headroom left to implement dynamic light from regular beam shots too. This is not a hardware limitation issue, its something else.

    • @BoltFraction
      @BoltFraction Год назад +3

      @@The_Ostrich Weird. If what you say is true, then it's absolutely bizarre that the beam lighting was removed. Seems way too glaring an omission to be honest oversight. Maybe it was causing something to bug out that we just don't understand yet. Perhaps we can hope it'll be patched back in come the future.

    • @Marc_Fuchs_1985
      @Marc_Fuchs_1985 Год назад

      @@BoltFraction Yop, those lighting effects would put no strain on the system, even if they came with dynamic shadows, but which seem to be not a part of anything in the game. So just light sources without shadows or nothing to make the Switch bother. Also thinking about the 20 years older original game on weaker hardware being able to do it, why would you think it's demanding for the Switch? Texture resolution makes no difference in calculating the effect, only the complexity of models, if shadows are cast and the resolution of those. We wouldn't even ask for shadows, so bare lighting, that eats up no mentionable processing power, is more than appropriate - so yes, it seems illogical, that they cut it. It was either some (weird) artistic decision, or maybe it truely caused some problematic glitch in the code at some point and so they cut it. But I really miss that lighting, the far improved visuels get dragged down again without this lighting.

    Speaking of changed cutscenes, in the final boss fight when Samus is chasing Metroid Prime through the crater, she winds up for her somersaults in a much more realistic manner by doing a small hop at the end of her run before putting all her weight into the flip. Man I love watching clips of this game. Metroid was the first franchise I think I really got behind, starting with Prime. I'm of the opinion that sometimes, these older games felt more expansive and immersive because they were NOT open world. Suspended disbelief and the thought of "what could be beyond those rocks, those trees, that blocked door" almost makes the world feel that much bigger and you that much smaller. I love a big open world (Zelda: BotW was incredible) and I'd love to see that in Prime 4, but there's a special characteristic in these old games that forced you to use your imagination.

Same applies for the Bombus multi-coloured, electrical explosions, they were brought down a lot so that the lights aren't destracting and also won't cause seizures or migranes.

I already bought all the Prime games (usually at full price even) outside of Federation Force and even at the 40 dollar price tag, I don't think I want just a remaster, and especially not one that removes things I liked about the original game and messed up the door textures, as one of the original game's developers stated on Twitter. The many, heavy discounts there are on PC games and even occasional giveaways have wisened me to console games and their limited time purchase windows... making me only interested in buying Switch games when I can't wait to play them. I'm also not a bread winner, so it's difficult for me to buy games very often, much less expensive AAA and/or new games...

      Aside from the fact that she wears a super high-tech alien visor, sun glare like that is just simply unrealistic, which is why I would say they toned it down. The reflections were probably removed due to performance issues. Reflections always come at a high cost especially with the quality of modern graphics. The old one, despite a cool thing, looked very bad. I would also suspect that a vast majority of people didn't even know that was a thing, like myself, so why sacrifice performance and time in remaking it?
