Not just mega rider but a nice guy meet him on a few occasions. So polite friendly and humble. You know your a legend when the bike you rode at WDW sells for the most at Auction then all the other Ducati riders.
He is , to me, The Package. True grit, no holes barred, balls to the wall racer who has never forgotten where he came from and the people who helped him to get there. I have been honoured to meet him, to watch him race and be welcomed into the fold when his hometown supporters came to my home town at Phillip Island, in their hundreds, and along with his parents watched his first MotoGP on home soil from the public viewing area at the top of the home straight. No VIP pass's, no pretension, just good honest country folks basking in the well deserved glory of a son/mates MotoGP ride. I first saw him race at PI on a wildcard ride in 1997(?) on an underpowered 250 and he blitzed the field through the twisty section of PI, only to be overtaken on the last straight by six faster, more modern machines. When I met him years later and told him I loved that race and it only seemed a few years ago and now here he was signing memorabilia at a FILA store in Melbourne riding GP's, he looked around to make sure no-one heard him swear and quietly said "I can hardly fucking believe it myself, mate". I fucken love that racer, that man, that person. A true champion. I am belssed to find out that he is apparently signed to ride at the Island Cassic next year, along with Troy Corser and Gary McCoy...the Island Classic is possibly the greatest weekend of classic bike racing in the world...do yourself a favour and check it out if you can.
Musica da brividi per un pilota eccezionale, conosciuto in Ducati in Via Gallarate a Milano nel lontano 2002, persona veramente gentile e umile, fece a tutti l'autografo, un mito!!
i've never seen such respectful riding between rivals before or since bayliss/haga. they trusted each others riding like no other. never will you ever see this again, ever.
I never understood Bayliss MotoGP career: mediocre results for some years, then he came back as a wild card in the last 2006 GP without knowing the bike nor the tires and kicked everybody asses. In 2007 he ran in Superbike again. Still a mistery to me. Superbike legend that's for sure.
It was because when he went to GPs he wasn't given the crew he asked for from wsbk. His GP crew never understood what he wanted like his sbk crew did. Then end of '06 he is asked to fill in for Gibernau as reward for sbk title (again), Troy says yes but only if he can have wsbk crew. He gets them, plus they take his front end straight off his 999r and put it on the desmosedici... And that's how history is made mofos! Got all this from his tribute book that Ducati made for him...'Troy Bayliss- Official Book'.

Guys (vanduc996, fat Freddy etc.) I think the word 'myth' in the title is a lost in translation thing given that the thanks at the end is in Italian, and the fact the video is a celebration of Troy. Anyway I reckon the vid rocks. I was lucky enough to do a few laps on the back of Troys panigale a few years back and firstly, Troy seems like a top bloke off the bike, and then on the bike...well I was making involuntary noises in the braking zones and laughing out loud everywhere else! Yep... legend!
Now that you mention that, I realized the same. Ducati packed up for motogp and I never looked back. WSBK isn't the same, the glory years of the late 90s and early 2Ks were amazing. Forza Ducati
+Slideway86 true at the time we would end our rides ripping up country roads just to watch gp , wsb, and the ama super bike races . Great time to watch races
I was lucky to watch every race of the 90s and early 2Ks. Who can forget the peak of Honda 750 Vs Ducati Vs Kawasaki days. Never will be the same ever again, bikes, tech and tyres are just too good now.
I agree that in recent years it's definitely lost its edge since the 90s heyday. But I think this is due to MotoGP gaining in popularity over the first 10 years since 2001/2. I do find myself harking back to the WSBK of the mid to late 90s and early 00s. They certainly were great for the sport.
Vale is the GOAT, but Troy Bayliss is my personal favorite, followed by Max Biaggi, Super Sic and Marco Melandri. Troy was such a brilliant rider. Miss him in SBK.

Hi everybody can you please give me some suggestions on how to verify with videotape and a go pro hero 4 silver my 1299S when it intermittently and randomly and unexpectedly stalls out? Every time i take it to the dealer they said they can't duplicate the problem and Ducati of North America video taped my bike with no problems. But my 1299s still stalls out on me in congested stop in go traffic all the time and when I feather the clutch and drive between 0 to 15 mph on the street or freeway or on the street. However I'm an amateur and I just purchased a hero 4 go pro silver camera do you have suggestions on how to mount it to the 1299S gas tank ? I'm concerned with losing the camera what type a suction mount the go pro hero 4 camera? What I should use and what can I use in case the suction loses its grip to keep the camera from damaging the motorcycle and the camera in case it falls thanks advance for everything. The dealer said prove the 1299s is stalling out with video verification because they claim everything is checking out A ok on the computer test sheet with Ducati engineers and Ducati video tape that they won't show me What would you do? Thanks in advance for everything.
Troy is no myth....every time Ducati needed a champion an Aussie stepped up to the plate. Troy Corser, Troy Bayliss, and of course Casey Stoner. Why show some crashes when you could have shown all the special racing moments of passing. Crashes are a part of racing motorbikes. Look at Valentino Rossi. These guys push to find the limits of what’s possible. It’s interesting to note that Troy and Casey took Ducati to the top of their game consistently. No-one else has ridden the GP bike and made it work like Casey did.....ask Valentino about that. Ducati owes Australians big time and should provide young riders with a path to the top. There is little sponsorship for Australian riders and therein lies the problem.
Irony in your comment is that Troy Bayliss was no young guy when he got his gp break. Heck he even started competitive racing when he was well into his mid 20s. Maybe they should give the older guys a chance too?

I remember those days. He would go around 6-7-9 laps....his tires would come in, he would just walk away from the field.
Good times when traction control, wheelie control was the right hand.
