@@CSOINFINITY An average helicopter can reach a top speed of somewhere between 130 and 140 knots, which comes out to about 160 mph. pretty sure a 200mph bike out ran it.
@@juggernautxtr In this scenario the bike can't outrun the heli (i.e fov of camera) because the heli can just ascend to keep the bike in sight. If it was a highway eventually the bike could outrun the heli, but not on a small island...
When I think of riding a bike fast, I always think of two sayings I heard "We're here for a good time, not a long time" and "just because you're breathing, doesn't mean you're alive" =) No other feeling like it in the World, mad rumble of horsepower in between your legs =P
The bike is constantly outrunning the helicopter but the helicopter is short-cutting the roads and catching up. As someone else pointed, the deception is that the camera operator is tight-in on the zoom, so you can't tell that he's pulling away. They have a 33x Zoom on them. That is a twin engine Squirrel capable of 180mph, however when they fly with stabilised camera systems attached the helicopter pilot isn't supposed to exceed something like 110 Knots approx 125mph. This restriction is so as not to stress the external component (the camera-ball) since anything breaking off it has a high risk of taking out the tail and then the helicopter. As far as the stabilistation of the camera system is concerned it doesn't care at what speed the helicopter flies at. It's more that capable of maintaining the same smooth, picture quality.
I saw his doco on his Pikes Peak attempt. Didn't know a great deal about him prior to that, but as many here have said he has balls ofsteel and he comes across as a really nice bloke. More power to him and I pray he lives to retire in one piece.

Motorcycles are the purest form of transportation, a true connection to the road. Every defect in the pavement is felt, the inputs on the handlebars and throttle are immediate, the bike can be so gracefully maneuvered with a little push and a shift of the body. I don't think anyone will experience life until they've carved a mountain road on a motorcycle, it's a beautiful thing and the adrenaline can't be rivaled by many, if anything, on wheels.
Lol I get what you mean, but he did outrun the helicopter. I'm going to try and explain as nicely as possible, unlike these other dimwits that can't speak the English language properly and have to resort to swearing and sarcasm. The helicopters' camera allows them to zoom. Whenever you see the picture getting oddly larger, that isn't because the helicopter has suddenly gained speed, but rather the fact that the camera is zooming in to make the motorbike viewable. I hope I didn't sound sarcastic or rude at all, as I am just trying to give you information. Everyone makes mistakes, and it takes a real man to correct a person - nicely. The fact that NUCK had to resort to swearing and amrutr had to resort to sarcasm shows how puny their tiny brain is.
it was a few years ago and I was watching the IOM and the helicopter was following a racer up the mountains out of town and the camera man was almost shouting at the pilot to get closer to the racer and you could hear the pilot finally tell him that I cant get closer because we can keep up with him! I am enthralled with the IOMTT, I raced bikes for many years and always knew that in reality I dont have the skill, or the nerve to ever even think about this! The men and women who compete will forever have my admiration and respect, it takes a very special person to compete in this race!!!!!!
I love Guy and he’s caning that thing as hard as it’ll go but the flames are just unspent fuel being ignited by the exhaust. The drag of the engine slows the bike plus it’s mechanically drawing fuel into the manifold meaning the moment you hit the throttle the engine can respond.
Guy is my hero,he is younger than me and I still look up to him,he did it his way and still is, if I could hang out with anybody for a day it would definitely be guy, we all love you buddy
I can't imagine the level of concentration and fitness required, together with all the senses working perfectly, & complete trust in the bike's mechanical's to ride a bike at these speeds ... amazing 👏
This 'Guy' is a legend, might not of been the fastest this time round, but upon finishing congratulates McPint on his win. 👍 Epic sportsmanship. Its the way it should be in all sports. Massive respect for the both of them.
How Guy never won a TT i'll never know!!! All the ingredients were there, the bikes were quick and so was he. Just goes to show what an enormous achievement it is to win the most dangerous race in the world!!!!!
I worked on a Police helicopter for 11 years, the fastest pursuit I was ever involved with was a GSXR1000. It outpaced us massively on the straight bits of road (motorway), we only kept up by cutting off the bends in the motorway and straightlining them. He eventually realised he couldn't get away (he had seen us) and rode home. Parked the bike up, took his helmet off and lit a cigarette awaiting his fate.
I suspect that the way to "out run" a helicopter is to just have a large enough gas tank / good enough fuel economy to exceed the endurance of the helicopter... If the helicopter can only stay in the air for 3 hours, you just need to be able to go for longer than that even if it is much slower than the cruising speed of the helicopter... Then again, if he's only doing 60 mph, are they going to call out a helicopter for the chase? :)
@@CurmudgeonExtraordinaire I don't think any bike in the world would be able to outrun a helicopter for 3 hours because of the small tank. I think you can empty the tank of a 1000cc in half an hour if you want to. But if he's on the chase, he could shortly stop at a gas station, fuel it and drive off as there wouldn't be any cops so fast near him I'm guessing. Just some Biker thoughts, maybe I'll need them one day
@@elonmusk9697 literally this. I just escaped a helicopter/interceptors2 days ago on my Kawasaki. @@RealRyanG0sling Bateman, don't you have experience with killing people?😂 Yeah it's really easy to lose the cops on the ground especially in a city or something unless they are directly behind you. ae86 irl some people live their lives, some people exist at the end we all get disabled or die. this is a test of skills, nerves and trust probably also with some luck. But like they have said, they do it for the love but accept the risk. they are truly incredible.
If you've ever been there, you'll see the moment he was free. When nothing but the bike, engine, tires and road mattered. When time stood still, slowed down. When you pass the point of no return and you're committed to nothing else in this life. When even your heart beat echos in your mind. It's the moment you feel most alive. Right on that edge. Once it's in you, you can never shake it off.
I've lived, my friends. Traveled the world, raced cars, mx, climbed mountains, swam the depths of the oceans, flown fighter jets (yes flown), dated supermodels...let me tell you, there is NOTHING like racing a superbike at top speed, arcing through corners with daring and precision. and to see one of the best in the world mastering his craft...spellbinding. Stay safe, warriors!
+Daniel Isabelle While this bike could outrun one I assume (don't know the specs on it) I wouldn't call the 140 mph that many average helicopters can do as "not having much speed at all.) There's a reason police call in a helicopter when they have a high speed chase. Not only for speed, but helicopters can fly in a straight line (as the crow flies) where as a motorcycle has to follow the roads.
The skill of the helicopter pilot and videographer in keeping him in frame is absolutely amazing!

Plot twist: there is no plot twist
@@popz4470 plot twist. Not actually Guy Martin, just some boy with an aftermarket Chinese Speedo doing 30mph
As a motorcyclist the top down footage really puts into perspective what you're doing. Draping a human body over 400 pounds of metal and gliding through the universe faster than you could ever dream of running. You barely see the bike. Only the human moving. I love it.
He actually out run that chopper despite the chopper taking advantage of the curves . The camera pursued it by zooming.
he didnt tho
@@CSOINFINITY An average helicopter can reach a top speed of somewhere between 130 and 140 knots, which comes out to about 160 mph. pretty sure a 200mph bike out ran it.
juggernautxtr not even most police choppers only go 134 mph ground speed
@@benhutson5 Wow, I want to see chopper going that fast while on ground!
@@juggernautxtr In this scenario the bike can't outrun the heli (i.e fov of camera) because the heli can just ascend to keep the bike in sight. If it was a highway eventually the bike could outrun the heli, but not on a small island...
The world is truly a better place for having Guy Martin in it! What a nice bloke , what a legend.......
Looks like an Interstellar movie but on a road.
It seems as if he is travelling through the time.
it is, actually.
He is, everything around him appears to him relatively slower
I just see this comment at the exact moment i was thinking of it, what a feeling man
@@yorkoxmaul66 Ya bro, it's like other riders just letting him pass. He is that good
And made more sense too.......lol
The best ride recorded in our time.
Long live the king
Agree 100% Guy was a Maverick, something Raw and Pure ....🙌⚡⚡⚡
this guy is the definition of inspiration!
I've watched this video 5 or so times and i am in awe every time.
His name is Guy Martin.
It's *about time* to watch this epic vid again. You know, *the one!*
The shots of him with the helicopter tracking at full speed and fixed in frame with everything else motion blurred are mesmerising.
Just when you think your going well...........Guy Martin rips past you like its a piss take. Absolute Legend 👍
Damn I had to put on my helmet to finish this video!!lmao
Blazing past other already great TT riders shows how incredible Guy actually is! Great camera work too!
When I think of riding a bike fast, I always think of two sayings I heard "We're here for a good time, not a long time" and "just because you're breathing, doesn't mean you're alive" =)
No other feeling like it in the World, mad rumble of horsepower in between your legs =P
I sometimes have a mad rumble of horsepower between my legs ;) but I've never ridden a bike before
randomness1577 bit sick but if horses are your thing, all up to you =P
Johny40Se7en shots fired!!!
Gr13fM4ch1n3 lolol

Badger Beater wisely speaking a lot of these people dont talk sensable atoll
Helicopter: Let's cut across this field and catch him.
Guy: Not today!
Helicoptors can't speak Craigy boy
At what point does he "outrun" the chopper?

ThunderWindz I disagree :)
I agree in you disagree
+SwissTec Its the point on your head, look-up please...
+SwissTec 2:03 watch the bikes exhausts for an eyegasm
I saw his doco on his Pikes Peak attempt. Didn't know a great deal about him prior to that, but as many here have said he has balls ofsteel and he comes across as a really nice bloke. More power to him and I pray he lives to retire in one piece.
Watching this brought tears to my eyes, so beautiful, pure poetry, watching guy fly with wings of an angel, as if he’s Pierced the Veil into another dimension, as if he went to the edge of this world and its boundaries and broke through it into another realm. Living in this horrible world now with all of its restrictions, and this Covid bullshit, we forgot what it’s like to be free without limits. Awesome video thank you!
The daytonagym, Free without limits? Where do you live, in the woods in a hermit shack? Don't be ridiculous you poor oppressed first world white guy.
Cheer up dude!
Take it easy sporto.
Cheer up, the W Flu, went home.
the word that came into my mind after seeing this video and you said it already ..."pure poetry"...
Guy has balls of steel & skills of a god!
pretty good ,FOR A ROOKIE!
15 podiums and hes a rookie?
Still hasn't won the Isle of Man TT though. Lets hope 2017 is his year.
If he is still alive.

WOW, Guy Martin flew up the mountain on the GSXR 1000...amazing!!! Gave me goosebumps watching video!!
that was amazing

Mustve been those massive pair of bollocks weighing him down and giving him grip to go that fast 😂
😂🤣👍
Was just thinking that- just to be able to have the bottle to ride like that
he tucks em up into his t shirt and it keeps the front end down
More downforce than a f1 car

Fantastic riding, flying, filming and editing 👍
I don't think my Harley will do that
I remember sitting at the Gooseneck watching a V-Rod turn the corner. Funny as fuck. But it doesn't matter, its a Harley. They are cool anyway.
+DontTestTheX yea if your 40 years old maybe
+peoplestealallmynames I am 44 and ride a ZX10R and dislike Harleys for the purely bad performance. They do not stop turn or go. Do not put an age bracket on people for accepting an armchair on wheels as motorcycling.
+0Zolrender0 well those are the only people i ever see riding them. i work next door to a harely shop
+peoplestealallmynames I'm 50 riding a 2012 Kawasaki Z1000, I'm in shape and outwork most young guys in my shop... I know I'm not the norm but you'd be surprised who ya might see out there lol !!
Does he have to have a fuel tank specially made with indentations for his massive nads?
That was bike control at it's finest, serious respect.
I'm still waiting for the moment he outruns a helicopter lol
+Mark “dj nutnut” Henman there's an option called zoom in the camera's
+FieldWolf hope you get a fucking award for your explanation..😂
I'm not sure if you are being sarcastic or not.
FieldWolf lol I'll take that as a good explanation mate 👍🏻
When you think you're fast, then Guy Martin passes you like you're riding a bicycle.
Those guys were pretty fast.
There's fast and then there's toptier fast
It still amazing how these guy's are riding absolutely flat out on the TT circuit! Humongous balls !!!!
This video and music is ahead of its time it feels like I'm watching a scene from blade runner
Exactly
Love the editing of this video. Feels like it would be the ending to a Nolan movie or something. Powerful mood.
it was a few years ago and I was watching the IOM and the helicopter was following a racer up the mountains out of town and the camera man was almost shouting at the pilot to get closer to the racer and you could hear the pilot finally tell him that I cant get closer because we can keep up with him! I am enthralled with the IOMTT, I raced bikes for many years and always knew that in reality I dont have the skill, or the nerve to ever even think about this! The men and women who compete will forever have my admiration and respect, it takes a very special person to compete in this race!!!!!!
2:07 you know he’s cooking it when you see flames shooting out the exhaust
I love Guy and he’s caning that thing as hard as it’ll go but the flames are just unspent fuel being ignited by the exhaust. The drag of the engine slows the bike plus it’s mechanically drawing fuel into the manifold meaning the moment you hit the throttle the engine can respond.
I didn't notice that!
Guy really is one of the best all around racers I think I’ve seen over the years. He is god damned fearless
Guy is my hero,he is younger than me and I still look up to him,he did it his way and still is, if I could hang out with anybody for a day it would definitely be guy, we all love you buddy
Love the ethereal music. Bikes are magic.
I can't imagine the level of concentration and fitness required, together with all the senses working perfectly, & complete trust in the bike's mechanical's to ride a bike at these speeds ... amazing 👏
Guys like that are absolutely amazing. Talent and nerves of steel that I can’t imagine having.
This 'Guy' is a legend, might not of been the fastest this time round, but upon finishing congratulates McPint on his win. 👍 Epic sportsmanship. Its the way it should be in all sports. Massive respect for the both of them.
Who is the guy being filmed?
They don't make it clear in the title or description.
OK, I'm thinking Guy Martin. I think I answered my own question.
As a matter of *fact,*@@savage22bolt32, you *did.*

The Man, the motorbike, the moment, the music. My favorite clip of all time!
“This is a A-Star Sir, not an Apache.....”
I'm not a fan of GSXRs, but good gods did that thing fly.
Gsxr is the best bang for your buck
This thing is as much like the street GSXRs you know as a Ford NASCAR is to a street car. Totally custom built and tuned GSXR in name only.
@@Surefire11B incorrect
Neither am I but trust me they are so fast insanely
How Guy never won a TT i'll never know!!! All the ingredients were there, the bikes were quick and so was he. Just goes to show what an enormous achievement it is to win the most dangerous race in the world!!!!!
What an amazing human Guy is. Talented at so many things deserves a knighthood. Instead they give them to popstars
If you don't love this then you are dead inside )))
Roy Evans great just another way to clarify how dead inside I must be.
Don’t you mean if you love this sport you’ll probably end up dead inside and out?
Of course we love this, doing it tho...
Poetry in motion !
Yah,it's my love but my 1 son is a bullrider and another is a free solo rock climber.
Beautiful choice of music - not what you expect, but it works amazingly well. Kudos to whoever selected this piece.
Kept on motorway at fast pace, refueled it (didn’t pay) and kept going till helicopter run out of range.
Police is so fucking stupid. Wasting tax money on stupid chases.
If I had killed someone then yeah it makes sense… all I did was to ride without plate..
@@RealRyanG0sling Bateman, don't you have experience with killing people?😂
Yeah it's really easy to lose the cops on the ground especially in a city or something unless they are directly behind you.
The good old "make a turn a few meters away, turn off the car/bike and let them drive past" works always.
bro should have drove into class b airspace
10 years later this is still incredible
Mesmerizing to watch. The music fit it surprisingly well too. Almost put you in a trace watching Guy tear up this course. Great video.
That man is a great Pilot... Best ever seen in my Life
When I was riding my S1000RR, I felt time and space stood still... I miss every second of it. Mainly did riding at perfect blue sky conditions along the curvy coastline of south of Norway.
Such an amazing video. I watch it a few times every few months and it never gets old.
3:15 This is my favourite part of the video. He had to almost come to a stop to enter that roundabout and then he pulls six gears within seconds coming out of it. If you watch closely you’ll notice that the bike is moving around a LOT and the front tire even comes up a couple times at that speed. Pure awesomeness!
Amazing footage and very fitting music... what else can you say when watching this other than "F***"
The skills, the concentration, the trust and conviction and sheer speed just blows my mind, nothing short of LEGENDS these blokes.|
Ride fast ride safe.
Lloyd B they need all the trust conviction concentration they can get or else thier dead simple as thiers no second chance if ya fall of at that ridiculous speed . very skilful I agree but stupid
ae86 irl far from stupid, it's called LIVING
Lloyd B I mean stupid speeds I wouldn't call it living is say living on edge no wonder they get a buzz one slip and thier unfortunately dead especially the tt thiers no point in defending the sickeningly high death rate in tt not to mention I no one man seams green crashed into a bike that was broke down in track at he is left in a vegated state needing 24hours care his mother is a elderly woman left to pick up the pieces ya could say he's lucky he wasn't married or had kids of his owne no other sport would in allow that to continue its a law to its self
ae86 irl some people live their lives, some people exist at the end we all get disabled or die.
this is a test of skills, nerves and trust probably also with some luck.
But like they have said, they do it for the love but accept the risk.
they are truly incredible.
How to outrun a helicopter,
Step 1 - Be Guy Martin
Step 2 -
Step 3 - Helicopter gone
smuttysy he outrun heli i outrun him
Step 4 - profit
That is a thing of beauty. Man and machine in harmony. Totally on it and making it look so so easy. Amazing piece of film.
Aye, spot on mate
I love Guy Martin, the man has no fear and is a epic rider.🤘🏻
So sorry this Mate never won the TT. He was absolutely amazing rider. One of my favorite ones, forever and ever. Hats off Guy, you Legend.
Guy Martin your a legend mate.. you've got some big balls man!.. No fear!!!
in all honesty he makes this look so much easier then it is.
This is freaking sweet, my palms are sweating just watching him
Your absolutely right helicopters do not have much speed at all
+Daniel Isabelle While this bike could outrun one I assume (don't know the specs on it) I wouldn't call the 140 mph that many average helicopters can do as "not having much speed at all.) There's a reason police call in a helicopter when they have a high speed chase. Not only for speed, but helicopters can fly in a straight line (as the crow flies) where as a motorcycle has to follow the roads.
I went to the TT races in 2008 I went all over the isle of man 😎 loved it n I can't ride a motorcycle 🤣
I've been riding for 17 years but the TT still makes my mouth drop.
