  • A so-called tone poem in one movement. This composition by Steven Reineke tells the story of the lives of twin sisters, Helena and Sibylla, born in Germany in 1588. The sisters were separated at birth, one going through life as a witch and the other as a saint. The composer has used a variety of musical styles to illustrate the turbulent lives of the two sisters. One of the most famous works of Steven Reineke has been now arranged by Erik Rozendom.

Played this for LGPE (Large Group Performance Evaluation) in high school as a bass clarinet. Those solos were mine!

I played the horn part for a concert one time. With those high notes ( I play a single horn ) it almost made my head burst.

Played it and did an arrangement for marching band back when I was in highschool. It’s nice reminiscing and seeing new generations kill this song because it’s sooooo good and exciting

I love this piece. The parallel to the dies erae (185) is awesome! Also the Story of Helena and Sybilla, predicting the future, like Sybille of Erythrai, who predicted the fall of Troja. Do you think the melody in the beginning corresponds to the second verse? (Solvet saeclum in favilla)
Playing it was a pleasure, since as a Trumpet player I can lay back and listen to the music, since in the first 80+ bars, I only had to play 9...
