The Affordable Amp To Rule Them All - Fender Mustang GTX100

  • #gtx100 #fenderamps #modelingamp - Why does the new Tonemaster lineup of amps from Fender get all the glory lately. The Mustang GTX100 does all the Tonemaster amps (at least 90% as well), includes dozens of other outstanding amp models, a tone of effects, a looper, Bluetooth editing and control - just a great set of features. It sounds great in almost any setting, and it's plenty loud enough for the gigging musician. Listen as I run through a number of the amps in the collections - using nothing but a bit of spring reverb for effects. This is the unsung and seemingly forgotten awesome amp in the current Fender line.

Man, you're an original, watching you it feels like you just let a friend into your home for a drink and to check out your amp. Many utubers try to put on an amazing show but fail, by trying to be over funny or over loud voiced etc. whilst you, youre just being yourself and that's so refreshing. Also, great playing all those different genres on the fly!! I'm using an old fender cyber deluxe which is cool but if something goes wrong with it, I'll replace it with one of these GTX's without hesitation

I just picked up one of these recently. I agree, this amp doesn't get the love it deserves. It's a great "At-home" / Studio amp. CAN you gig with it? Sure, but I think it's real shine is at-home recording. With 200 presets, and tons of user customization this thing can make all kinds of tones. While I know many love humbuckers, I've found my GTX100 really shines the most with single-coils. This amp seems to have a decent punch with low end and mids. So the brighter chime of single-coils really helps bring out the sound. My Les Paul sounds great through it. But my classic Fender strat just sings...
Great Amp. Really shows that "Modeling amps" are catching up (and maybe even surpassing) the classic Tube amps.

I brought this amp over year ago and oh boy its great people were giving it bad reviews. But this is only that they don't understand how to use the amp correctly. I now set up my own banks and it sounds great. It rocks thanks Fender.

You are spot-on. You have to set up your own palette. A lot of the presets are in there just to give you an idea of the capabilities. My GTX100 is set up with probably half my own sounds, and the rest is the best of the provided presets.

It’s SOO GOOD! I am like freaking out how much people dismiss this amp! I get monster distorted hard rock tones from it and delightful cleans. I’ve never been a fender guy but damn I took back my katana and got this instead cause I think fender cleans and distortion are THE BEST. also thanks so much for this video sir!

    • @midnightshade32

I own a fender lt25. It's in my office. I needed a second amp for my rec room and everyone recommended the katana. I demoed the katana mk2, gtx50, a spark positive grid 40w,and yahmaha thrxii at guitar center, as well as a small 20amp line 6.
The katana was underwhelming. Only thing was it was cheaper. Used it was going for $200 while the gtx50 was $350 used. The gtx was thr best sounding of them all. The katana may sound better but I may never know as the effects and presets are locked away requiring a pc to use. It only has 5 or 6 amp channels and 3 effects on board. No screen so no changing stomp boxes that I see. Also only 3 presets with 3 variations, stuck until you change them on pc. . Same thing with spark, only this one requires a mobile phone app to control. Line 6 was too small. Maybe the catalyst and vox vt40x sounds good but they didn't have any. All I know is I don't understand the katana hype. Wonder if it's people buying due to cheap cost and theb evangelizing it?

@@tonyleeglenn ya the speaker is great for the money but I find the tones are better coming out of an FRFR speaker. IMO Fenders tone library is better than any DAW suite of amp and effect models. I like where Fender is going with their new FRFR speaker cabs… I still love a pushed tube amp through a high quality guitar speaker but I feel it’s going to be more for small venues with no PA and jams. I love a great Jensen Vintage Alnico or a Blue Celestion blue or ruby but for pure convenience and creative effort reduced the digital products have firmly established themselves in guitar history. A plug and play swapable speaker in a combo would be interesting! Especially if it was designed to go with the Fender Digital Tone suite.

I actually bought it because of The Spark. I love the Spark and how easy it is to use. The GTX is very similar. It has a lot more power, a lot more presets, and just more options to play with. That being said, I’d probably just stick with the Spark for simplicity. I never turn it up past 3. It’s just too loud! If you like the Fender sound, the GTX is a beautiful sounding amp. When I first got it, I thought it was the last amp I would ever buy. It sounds that good! And any sound you don’t like on it is tweakable. My only problem with it is, with the last update, it no longer works with the app, which sucks. Hopefully, that’ll get ironed out. It still works fine as a regular amp. Just less fun. Never had a problem with the Spark! It’s always a chance you take, with new tech. It works great when it works.
