The past year I have been filming the Northern Lights in Iceland during the Solar Maximum -- the peak of solar activity that occurs every 10-11 years.
On March 17th, 2015, I was fortunate enough to be at the right place at the right time when the solar storm of the decade hit Earth. The sky was covered with auroras so strong, they were visible at dusk. This continued all night until dawn. In the film you will see rare red, yellow, white, blue and violet purple auroras.
I was also fortunate to get shots of aurora borealis lighting up the sky while the Bárðarbunga volcano was erupting. The orange/red glow you will see in the distance is from the hot lava spewing from the volcano.

I had the luck of seeing northern lights.. Twice! *It's an experience I really wish to all of you!!!* Although it was just a "simple" aurora (like the one at the beginning of the video), for me it was a staggering source of awe and astonishment!!! I will not forget that vision of green and pale white pulsing stripes curling in the sky, that light ark (similar to the one at 0:29) coming towards me and my friends.. I don't feel ashamed to say that *I shouted and cried like a child* for the immense sense of *joy* I felt and for the strong sense of *gratitude*.. *Gratitude to be alive!!!*
I think we *REALLY* need to seek and enjoy all the beauty of nature around us.. Not only this amazing lights combined with the wonderful piano melody of a great composer such as Ludovico Einaudi.. It can be just some shining clouds lit by a sunset or sunrise, some shouting stars streaking through the nigthsky, an eclipse, lightnings over the horizon, bioluminescense phenomena on the shore or even just more simple things such as sunshine amid tree canopy or even some snowflakes around you!
I also believe that the beauty of such natural phenomena can be an important powerful antidote to all the social relationships problems we have among each other.. *Yes, just think about that!* When you are permeated with that strong sense of awe, joy and gratitude every bad thoughts suddenly disappear and it's easier to *forget* all the evil, pain and suffering you received by certain people and, hence, it's easier to *forgive* them, as well. The consequence is that with a resentement-free mind, your way of life becomes more joyful and serene with less anxiety and fears...
I think that the right to Beauty should really be a fundamental human right!

Reminds me a lot of Alaska. Great work. You can leave a camera and control it remotely during winter when the temp is just right to catch these ion, or whatever they are. I wonder if the color differential has to do with nitrogen being created...

"FourK" video is amazing. Are the colors so bright to human eyes?
i have seen this wonderful display twice, and the colors, though not as bright as in the video, are definetly present. ive seen bluish white, green, deep blue, reddish, purple, and hints of yellow. the reason why they're so bright here is because the camera has long exposure time, allowing lots of light to be collected on the shutter.
