    Hi Guys! I’m proud to say I played and survived this game. (Drew’s a good teacher.) But this video will definitely help remind me how to play. Don’t be alarmed if I have to watch multiple times. 😂I’m old.

    Do another with leaders and lore! I like your speed of play a lot more than other groups, and I have to live vicariously through you until September

      Thank you for saying so, and for watching! We do try to prioritize speedy play especially since I'm not editing for time anymore. I think it's quite a bit more fun to watch than perfect but slow play.

    Great little game play video. I'd love an Arcs Campaign teach. I've played Arcs base game about 6-7 times now. I really like it. I have yet to find a brave soul to delve into the Blighted Reach campaign with me. Hopefully soon. Trying to get my gaming groups comfortable with the base game first.

    Funny how Jordan allowed himself to gain the 5 point bump from second place in tycoon at the end, when he should only have been allowed to do so if he won it outright, and then immediately reminded Brandon that he was not allowed to take the 2 point bonus from warlord.. =p

      Thanks for watching and subscribing! I (Brandon) am not a big fan of gaming on TTS when not forced to by a pandemic haha, but it would not be surprising at all for Drew and Jordan to get involved with that.

    Is the base game teach going to be uploaded soon?

    • @OptimalPlay
      @OptimalPlay  3 месяца назад

      We didn't film a base game teach, because there are already great resources for that on RUclips including an 'official' how to play video. But if you or anyone else reading this find value in our more conversational real-life teach approach and would like us to do more of them, we'd love to hear that feedback!

    Are those trays included in the game?

    • @OptimalPlay
      @OptimalPlay  3 месяца назад

      They're included in the campaign expansion, which is a bigger box with lots of trays to sort and fit everything.

    At the end of Chapter 2 the Blue player (all players actually) should have discarded his trophies, which he didn't do. But overall very interesting game, - can't play myself, but at least I can watch it played

    You guys have great content! little suggestion though, its ok to think during your turn but if you upload a video, its a good opportunity to edit out those downtime moments. Obviously cant do it during live stream but something to consider. Itll make people more likely to click on another of your videos if they think you'll be able to see more of the gameplay (its hard to commit to a 2 hr video and see only 1 hr of actual gameplay as an extreme example)

    • @OptimalPlay
      @OptimalPlay  3 месяца назад +6

      I used to heavily edit for time - if you scroll back a couple years on the channel you'll see it used to be filmed on 4 cameras and thoroughly edited. And I agree that makes for better content, but it was unsustainable for a small hobby channel like this one. When I made the decision to go to the lower production value "live produced" style at the start of last year, we started getting 3x the content published, as a result the channel viewership and subscriber growth spiked, and we had more fun doing it. Maybe someday I'll hire an editor or quit my day job, but until then this seems to be the better style for us!

    Love your willingness to film the game. A little feedback: There was a lot of “Um…uhh…wait, I didn’t think that through. Let me back this up.” I watch playthroughs so that people who know what they’re doing can demonstrate the game.

    • @OptimalPlay
      @OptimalPlay  3 месяца назад +15

      Appreciate the feedback! What you're looking for doesn't necessarily align with what we're looking to create, I'm sorry to say, which is more along the lines of videos of authentic and hopefully entertaining friends exploring games together. Plus holding players strictly to their initial moves just leads to much longer quiet thinking time which is not great on camera (or off camera but that's a matter of preference I suppose). Thanks for watching!

      @OptimalPlay I actually love this style! I'm playing this for the first time at a con this weekend and seeing players verbally going through thier options and second guessing moves gives a better feel for the how and why of the game for other people that are just learning as well.

    Great video. Can't wait to receive this game.
    Sidenote: in a competitive game, when someone is about to take a sub-optimal turn and another player explains to them how they could optimize their turn, i feel like it's a 2v1 game for the 3rd player. I would tell the person to just let the other person play 😁 Maybe that's just me though

    • @OptimalPlay
      @OptimalPlay  3 месяца назад +7

      Yeah that's reasonable! To me it's always kind of been part of an inherently political game like this one. People are bound to give "advice" that is maybe good but isn't detrimental to themselves, and sifting through that and making your own decision is part of the game. But I can totally see tables preferring to have table talk rules against that. It would probably result in faster gameplay too.
      It was also my (Brandon's) first game so there may have been some tips along the way for that reason, I can't remember specifically.

      My boardgame rule 1 is to try keep things enjoyable.
      My boardgame rule 2 is to play according to the spirit of the game.
      At least in my mind, but I'm also responsible typically that everyone understands the game rules.
      For me, even though we're all competitors in the game, if someone is obviously not aware of one of the rules in their first game I do point it out. Yes we're competitors and such, but sometimes you're also responsible for teaching the game.
      During a first game I tend to take players through the phases and such especially if some parts or options are easily forgotten, sometimes pointing out their options if they are really struggling to wrap their head around what they can even go for. I typically sort of 'explain' what I am doing at the start (I'll get me some resources because I like the look of those cards) and then see how things go from there.
      With optimization... Where to draw a line. It's probably different for everyone else. With optimizing turns I don't tend to tell them I guess? Unless it's something that should be really obvious or a misunderstanding of the rules/iconography.
      I think it's easy to do all this in a way that other people find annoying or detracting from the game, so it's a situational balance for sure.

    • @JoostN86

      @@lystic9392 when it's a player's first or second game, sure. They have to learn. But when someone is well aware of all the game's rules and is just about to make a tactical error, that's on them. In my opinion

      @@JoostN86 But in 99% of the time they are making it because they are just players. While you as an owner of the game is a rule keeper. You know better and play better. In most cases you will win unless you hand hold your opponents for a few games.
