I’m planning on getting the 2025 4Runner or the LC 250. If you’re running bigger tires like 37s the coolant temp and transmission temp will get hotter faster right? How to we get around that with these new gens? Do you suggest external transmission coolers and aftermarket radiators?
Unsprung weight definitely makes the truck feel different, but 74Weld is the only manufacturer we've tried that is making the uprights and boxes out of billet aluminum. It's a lot lighter and FAR less noticeable than the competition.
Talking about 74Weld vs other brands… spend more on better portals. The phrase "buy once, cry once" means to purchase a high-quality, expensive item, even though you might have some initial reservations or guilt about the cost. The idea is that you'll be glad you spent the money in the long run.
@@dwighthouser Yes, I am familiar with the phrase, but $20K just for the portals themselves without the cost of labor to install and without the cost of any additional parts/upgrades that is needed is crazy. The majority of consumers do not have that kind of money readily available. The product is awesome but the cost is not and that's why it's funny.
I built my whole rig for 10k and there’s no where you’ll go that I won’t. You said, 35k including labor. That’s a joke. People, learn to build it yourselves. It’s not hard and you won’t pay for ridiculously overpriced parts.
The truck is higher but the track width is wider... does it feel better or worse on off camber sections? My two main concerns are steering and being too tippy.
It feels different when you're off camber at first, but it isn't actually more tippy... upgrading suspension with more travel and not putting weight up high like a canopy camper definitely helps that.
Total travel is not affected. But the total useable travel is much better. With a lift, you're moving the travel "down" to get the lift, so you get less down effective down travel. With a portal setup, you stay at ride height, and keep the "down" travel that would have been 'used' by lifting the truck. @TinkerersAdventure Has a great set of videos on the topic called "Everything About Toyota IFS"
Alright I don’t run much lift anyways. My biggest worry is keeping my tires on the ground so I think it would be better to go long travel. Instead of the 3 extra inches of ground clearance.
It is certainly a great mod... price is relative. When you consider what goes into these portals and what you get out of them, the benefits definitely outweigh the cost assuming you're going to use them.
Yes, it averages around 12mpg (this is the non-hybrid, the hybrid will be at 16-17 mpg with 37s). The gas mileage is the same on 37s whether you have portals or not.
Whether the end of your tie rods are connected on one end or two, basically. 74Weld has the option for both, but double shear costs another $600 (worth it IMO).
The idea is amazing, the cost is ungodly prohibitive. You’re talking almost half the price of the vehicle itself. That’s a shit Ton of replacement CV’s.
@@mtnyotas Anyone who has worked metal knows forging is going to be cheaper than billet and will result in stronger parts. The savings in machine time alone would be huge.
Great video ! I've spent so much money on my Tacoma but if I could start over I would start with 74 weld portals
You and me both!
That's a strong lookin taco. Solid info I had no idea what portals were. 🙏
Thank you, glad you found it informative!
Damn. Definitely something I want in the future
Let us know when you're ready!
The knowledge in this video 💯💯💯
Thank you!
Best money spent for sure!
No doubt about it!
It’s a cool way to spend 30k for sure
For that I could have 3 XJs that kill anything out there. Toyotas are weak. The gears break and CVs too.
the warranty is insane though
The best way!
You'll need 3 XJs - 2 for parts that break every time you wheel and 1 you actually wheel.
@mtnyotas As long as 1 is moving I'm cool. 😐
I love meat in my taco! This taco has a lot of beef in it! It's looking spicier, too! Love it!
SO MUCH MEAT
Great video on the tech specs of portals! What is the financial spend on a set of four portals? From a another video, portals are +$20K plus right?
Thanks! Yes, $20k for the parts on just portals.
Cool stuff
Appreciate it!
Sweet!!!! What a beefy 🥩 taco!!! 🌮
It rips, can't wait to get your Tundra on them!
@@mtnyotas me too!! Only weeks away now 🙏
Did they made one for 200 series?

Was that opening shot Radical Hill?
The Wall on Poughkeepsie Gulch
I'd love to put portals under my HE LC but 74 Weld doesn't make them yet.
Hit them up and see what they can do! Just because it isn't listed on their site doesn't mean they can't cut a set for you.
74Weld > Everything
100%
What about the added weight of the portals?
Unsprung weight definitely makes the truck feel different, but 74Weld is the only manufacturer we've tried that is making the uprights and boxes out of billet aluminum. It's a lot lighter and FAR less noticeable than the competition.
He said "buy once and cry once". Hilarious AF!😂

Some people spend more than that for bottle service at a nightclub... it's all perspective man.
@@mtnyotas bottle service at a nightclub is not the outdoors enthusiasts lifestyle perspective.

How much weight does the portal add over the existing hub/knuckle?
What’s the deal with the rearend?? How do u install a portal on a rear axle?
It's the same as the front but without the uprights - just a portal box that bolts on and new full float axles.
The truck is higher but the track width is wider... does it feel better or worse on off camber sections? My two main concerns are steering and being too tippy.

@@mtnyotas I ended up doing the trig...and the tip over angle is less than half a degree worse....so that helps me ha.
Work that 4 banger.
Does the portal axle set up increase the front end wheel travel at all with a stock coilover?

Lol
30k lol. Just do a full solid axel swap at that point.
And then portals on the str8 axle conversion 😮😅
We'll be addressing that soon... we certainly aren't against SASing, but there are tradeoffs for sure.
This is the way.
30k for portals……lol😂NO
The OEM Tacoma comes with a maximum of 31” wheels. How will a 22% reduction allow for 40” wheels? 31+22%=37.
2024s come with 31s and 33s...
Seems like a great mod but way too expensive.

@mtnyotas oh cool thanks! I'm figuring out how much i need to save for my 23 TRD pro hahaha
I'd buy the portals just because of the Trump impression alone. Comedy gold!
LOL he did that for about 6 hours that day...

You definitely get what you pay for in the off-road game...
next video, my engine blew up but its not the portals fault
Absolutely clueless, eh?
Hey can I borrow 20k to put them on my 4runner?
You can, I think Wells Fargo has a portal program going on rn ;-)
@@mtnyotas LOL nah I mean let me hold 20k for these portals dog no way im taking a fuckin loan for these things you smokin crack
I’d rather drag my belly than have possitive offset. Its decided, no portals for me😂😂
Because of the look? 🧐 Portals extend the track width 3” on each side so it’d be like running -75 wheels 😂 RIP to your wheel bearings.
What?
74 Weld's portals could be 75% cheaper if they were forged instead of billet.
@74weld do you want to address this one?
