@@CaryChilton It's an old Vintage 30 Celestion that's mic'd up. There's a SM57 and a Royer R-121, going into Overstayer Mic Preamps (Dual NT-01), going into a Lynx Aurora(n) converter / interface into Logic Pro.
The modded Marshall he brought to the US and showed to EVH was the circuit that later became the Ecstasy and the Brown Channel on the Triple Giant and Fish Preamps. The Snorkeler was a late 80s horizontal input 50 watt JCM-800 combo with a PCB mounted front panel converted into a homemade head shell built by Ronnie Champagne; it's why it's got that Vox pattern grill cloth on the front. This amp was done after Rhinehold Bogner got to the US, in fact it was done as a favor to Ronnie Champagne because Bogner had stopped doing mods since he had started building his own amps and didn't have the time. I know this because I'm the one who first traced out the circuit from 3 pictures Ronnie Champagne posted of the custom made (blue) PCB boards Bogner used to mount the modded circuit on to, including 2 PCB mounted tube sockets. He posted them on one of the guitar gear forums hoping to find someone who could reproduce the circuit because he wanted a backup of the original amp. The schematic I posted has been tested and verified by countless builders and freely available for all for the past 10 years. I can't believe it took Bogner this long to do a reproduction of this amp. It's not like there hasn't been any interest in it. Even before it was traced out people were talking about the Snorkeler and the sound Jerry Cantrell got on the first AIC record. Everyone had always assumed it was the Ecstasy/Brown Channel circuit he was using until Ronnie Champagne popped up to connect the dots to the right circuit; it's a variation of the Triple Giant Sharp channel with a few small but critical changes. The stock TG Sharp channel design is very similar to an Engl and has that clinical mid-scooped sound Engls are known for. The Snorkeler revoices the circuit for a more Marshall-like feel only with way more gain. I've messed around with countless circuits in my time and if I had to choose one this is would be my desert island project amp. The versatility of this circuit is just insane, it can pretty much do anything with overdrive. That's not very common, I hope you enjoy it because I certainly did.
the level of consistency in your work is outstanding... this is a masterclass in gear reviews. its a great product and I am proudly a current Bogner 3534 owner based greatly on your demo of that amp. the sound and feel I get from that amp is bang on with how you presented it. carry on good sir.
This is the sound I’ve been looking for all these years. Hope these come to the UK with a price that doesn’t require the sale of a kidney. Awesome demo too, thanks Michael

Hey Michael! :) I bought a Bogner Fish in early 1992 from Make'n Music and saw Eddie's check on the wall for this amp! The Hafler, which they also had, was very thin sounding in comparison but I really, really liked the Groove Tubes preamp, especially Channel 3. Great sounding track as always!
Michael, I sure hope Reinhold has you on the payroll because I put in my order for the Snorkler based off of your accurate recordings and great playing!! You always do every amp justice!!
This sounds really good. Reminds me of Ty Tabor “Johnny Guitar”. Learned for a new band and I picked it lol. Then I had to learn it. Was easy, but it’s the tone, and dynamics……..whoa!!!! You 13:08 just hit THE button! Damn! 🤯🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳🥳
Badass! Besides being a big AIC fan, the legend of the snorkeler has fascinated me since I first read Ronnie's post about it on Gearslutz. Btw I'm always impressed how good P-90s sound with high gain. That Shabat sound killer!
Around 95 I played a Bogner modded Marshall in a small Music store Aacher Strasse in Cologne Germany that reminds of the Snorkler. The Shop Owner was really exited and convinced me to play it. All I could think was : WOW…didnt had the money at the time.
Your opening demo some sounded as good as any production for that music that I have ever heard, and this is off my cell phone😮 the mix, the guitar tone, the effects on it, good lead tone great rhythm tone.
Here’s one I was playing music in Seattle in the late 80s (I was 19, or 20). We used to play with Love Bone, Alice, Nirvana, etc. Nothing’s Shocking was out, but I think Alice was recording Facelift. I went into my local amp tech (Soft Sience) and sitting in the shop is this Marshall chassis. I ask him what it was and he told me it was the amp Nothing’s Shocking was recorded with and that Alice had been using it. I thought wow, that’s pretty cool. It was “the amp.” Here we are 35 years later. Jeez. Not sure, knowing those guys back then, I can’t help thinking the Snorkler is a reference to some illicit activity
Michael long time follower and the amazing thing is that your videos and playing just get better and better. Always fired up when you release a new video.
Holy hell! I don't know what's better, that Bogner has finally done a proper Snorkler amp release, or this intro song. Killer job Michael @BigHairyGuitars! Those tones got some killer Cantrell vibe!
the triple giant 😮 I had one, it was a hot jcm 800,, and the brown sound,, it was to much mine Eddy van Helen for me to play metal with it. lol great pre-amp for its day🤠
I have never heard of a Bogner Snorkler before this video. What a hilarious and great name for any amp. Your playing and composition, as always, are beyond elite. Thanks!
Cool, I’ll never be able to afford one but, it’s definitely awesome to be able to go out and buy this almost mythical beast. I’ve always thought Jerry’s tone on Facelift and Dirt were right up there with the best heavy guitar tones ever, right up there with VH 1 brown sound.

I've been playing my fractals live and at home for years and my amps collecting dust. Now I just realized my kids are 5 and older now. It's time to get tubes warmed again. New amp GAS just got ignited, my bank account doesn't like you. Great demo good sir
I’m not an amp guy instead, I usually play an plug in amps, but god, Bogner really have a special place in my heart. I really want that amp. Fix your website Mr.Bogner!!!!!
This would be a smash 🎉hit as a Snorkeler mini but with tube preamp 🕶🤘🎵 sick as always Mr. Nielsen may have to check out the Rick instrumental course....😊
Come on Mr. Reinhold Bogner dooooooo eeeet make a killer Snorkeler Mini 5/50 Tube preamp solid state power section 👏 👍 like the Ecstasy mini pretty please with sprinkles 🙏🙏®️

The Bogner sound will always be what Cantrell needs
Based on his current rig rundown, seems like he thinks so, too!!!
I agree. I’m surprised Bogner doesn’t have any artist sig amps like Friedman
