Here's a couple more ideas for new SOS episodes: 7 best opening lines to songs 7 bands that you have grown into 7 artist collaborations that should happen 7 worst musical clichés
My answers/choices for those would probably go something like this... 1st suggestion: 'Hurt' by Nine Inch Nails 2nd: The Wonder Years 3rd: Dave Grohl and Royal Blood 4th: Dance music drops and shallow club lyrics
Totally agree. No matter what style they go for, it works. While Pablo Honey and King of Limbs kind of float in the background, all their other records I thoroughly enjoyed even though they sound completely different. Love me some Radiohead.
Maroon 5's change is really upsetting to me. Songs About Jane is one of my favorite albums of all time and I wish they would've cultivated that sound instead of taking the easy pop route. Really a shame
Whatever song Linkin Park make..... They excel in every genre... whether its be rock, nu-metal, hiphop, electronic or pop, they never fail to disappointment me..❤❤❤
Like you, I cannot stand Maroon 5's latest songs!! They're trying too hard to stay trendy, I wonder if they even truly enjoy their music lately. Do you think they'll ever go back to their original sound? I loved their first 2 albums so much as a teen.
I am a huge fan of M5's oldest stuff. Songs About Jane used to be one of my favorite albums, and I loved their pop-rock vibe. I guess you can imagine my disappointment when I first heard V. And don't even get me started on Don't Wanna Know and Cold...
ŋøctalli Don't Wanna Know is one of the boring and stupid songs I have ever heard. It actually made me swear off the radio coz I kept hearing it on pop and Top 40 radio
Me too.. I like all of their first 3 albums. But I got disappointed when they dropped 'Overexposed' album... it's such a disappointment they turned from groovy pop-rock into shitty mainstream pop. And now they are getting more and more sucks...
A few other bands who changed drastically...Paramore, All Time Low, Alice In Chains, Pantera, Metallica (well, debatable), Ministry, Green Day, AFI, Pearl Jam, Thrice, Placebo...
green day is also debatable, their "newer" stuff isnt THAT much different than their older stuff, at least their still a rock band and didnt go full electro pop
Punk Rocker AFI and Green Day did it pretty well, thankfully Green Day have gone back to basics and got rid of the whole rock opera thing. AFI change massively but damn did they make it work
CJ: Nu metal is miles better then wimpy electronic pop music, which blows even harder. Like someone else said, LP is a perfect example of failed re-invention. They were much better during their nu-metal days then they are now with One More Light.
CJ both there nu metal albums sold more than one more light will ever sell, its a good album for what its for but its terrible no presence of hahn at all,it has nothing going for them that'll survive when a new pop artist comes up with catchier pop songs/albums its market is already dominated that's why its failing its well written i own it but there best atleast the nu metal gave us some angry muwic with great lyrics with meaning, this album is just to fake it doesn't feel like a lp album now i agree its there music they do as they please but going from the heavy hunting party the one more light was a bad choice
Some suggestions: Genesis (Progressive rock -> Mainstream pop) Pink Floyd (Psychedelic -> Prog -> Pop -> Ambient) Panic! At The Disco (Emo pop -> Pop) Green Day (Punk -> Pop rock) Pantera (Glam rock -> Metal)
Jon, if you haven't checked them out, I'd suggest checking out the band "Biffy Clyro". Their first three albums are very alt rock and everything after that became slightly more "mainstream" however its still highly enjoyable. Just thought I'd suggest them based on the theme of the video as well as thinking you'll probably enjoy the work thoroughly. :)
Spookster I have commented this myself a few times hoping Jon would somehow see it, but never did. I love Biffy Clyro and I would agree with you on the evolve of sound but Puzzle , Blackened Sky, and Only Revolutions are my favourite albums from them
It's actually pretty phenomenal how all-over-the-place Biffy has been in their career. Kind of went from grungy vibes to experimental rock to hardcore stuff, and kind of settled in an electronica/arena rock type of sound. Love the band's versatility! Still consider Vertigo of Bliss and Opposites to be my personal favorites.
7 best comebacks? Like how greenday were falling out public eye around warning then blew everyone away on American idiot or I suppose fob appearing out of nowhere post hiatus?
totally agree with you on Maroon 5. They used to be my favorite band, and Songs About Jane is one of my favorite albums of all time. I'm just glad I saw them live when they were still good. So disappointing :((
I wouldn't say LP changed their sound COMPLETELY (except for OML). Before that, I thought it was very much of an evolution. Even OML is an evolution of their sound, if you remove The Hunting Party from the equation. THP was called a prequel to Hybrid Theory, so really their sound changes from heavy rock (THP) to nu metal (Hybrid Theory + Meteora), to more generic and pop rock (MTM), to electronic (ATS), to then electronic rock (Living Things) to then pop (OML). Its easy for everyone to roast OML because of its timing. If it didn't release right after LPs heaviest album ever (and imo their best) and maybe after ATS or Living Things then it wouldn't have been so roasted imo (tbh, the album has grown on me a lot, especially after Chester's death)
The Clash: pretty much full punk their first two albums before they used experimentation to perfection on London Calling until they went full on experimentation on Sandinista and Combat Rock for better or worse. Then they went full shit on Cut the Crap after Topper and Mick were fired.
sprke123 no i don't think so jared said it once he will never play our old material there new record love lust faith dreams is like a teenage girl is updating his Facebook status sharing her problems. Up in the air is like a pop type song which is great for a teenage girl . i have nothing to do with them now
Yep, they went from Space Rock to Alternative Rock to Synthrock and eventually Indie Synthrock, even do I enjoy most of their latest material, I think that their debut album is their best effort, it was so unique and different
as for bmth, you can't say their first albums weren't good when you don't like that genre in the first place. as someone who enjoys deathcore, their first few albums were amazing!
ciara sykes only recently gotten into them only really listened to the 2 newest albums but I'm tryna get into the other stuff just tryna acclimate to the harder core stuff
Chester said making every Linkin Park album felt like being in a new band. I can see there being quite an appeal in that. It is quite a dramatic shift, most noticeable when you open up Apple Music's "essentials" playlist and put it on shuffle. When I was getting to know them fully, it was quite a jarring experience. I remember Papercut and Heavy playing back to back, and I was like, "what the...??"
Nichole Way yeah. mcr is the only one that didn't become sell outs. I still like fobs and panic!s new stuff, but not as much (Also nice profile pic lmao gee is 40 now💜)
Panic! didnt sell out. They evolved their sound and continue to evolve their sound in new directions with each album depending on which direction Brendon wants to go creatively For example, the 50's influenced music theyre doing right now is in no way cliche nor was the 80's pop influenced TWTLTRTD. Its always been unique and original ideas. Theyve just drifted from the kind of emo sound of Fever. Doesnt make them sell outs just because they evolve and more people happen to listen
Peyton Stewart yeah that's true. I still like the new music. doab seemed like he was trying to go really pop, but it wasn't super sudden or anything. And dont get me wrong, I still love all of these bands
Someone Else: I agree, One More Light is a complete and utter joke of Linkin Park. Literally the worst album they have ever made. Even every other album after Meteora is better then One More Light. The lyrical concept is one of their best but the musical execution is the worst.
Living Things is the third best. Minutes to Midnight has lots of shit songs (mm hmm Hands Held High), A Thousand Suns is too political and boring, Hunting Party is a failed attempt at trying to be heavy again and One More Light needs no explanation. Living Things is gold
Other bands I would say that have changed their sound would be Turnover they went to pop punk to alternative/indie rock which I don't mind. Also, it seems Gorillaz likes to change it up a bit on every album.
Great video as usual! Since you didn't do it yet, As a suggestion, you should do a rant video about M5 because I feel like that it would be a great topic for a long rant video.
i saw this thumbnail and was like hey isnt that oli sykes??? clicked on it, and now im binging all your videos. nice work man (plus you reminded me how much i love sempiternal)
Some I've noticed the most: Linkin Park - Nu Metal to Electropop Coldplay - Indie to Pop Hedley - Pop Punk to Electropop Nine Lashes - Christian Rock to Electropop Maroon 5 - Pop Rock to Electropop
I think it's interesting that Maroon 5 actually still use live instrumentation . The guitars get cranked up. I wonder why they can't put that talent into their new material ?????

Showtek: Hardstyle to Big room house (again). The Chainsmokers: Goofy electro-house to Wonky/Future bass. Zedd: Dirty electro-house to Wonky dogshit. You get the idea.
I think that Pray for Plagues vs Avalanche or Oh No would be a better comparison, because pray for plagues is probably their most famous/best deathcore song of theirs.
Once I had their discography on shuffle, Follow You had just finished and Pray For Plages came on and me and my brother just burst out laughing. Not that I don't love Pray For Plagues, cos I do, it's just that the contrast was really funny for some reason.
This needs an update so I can hear about how tf Fall Out Boy got from Evening Out With Your Girlfriend, to Folie A Deux, to whatever MANIA is going to be.
I'm looking forward to listen to RHCP, their evolution looks interesting. Oh and Radiohead are total beasts. What a smooth evolution really. Another band who changed abruptly with amazing results is Blur. These guys went from shoegaze/madchester to britpop to raw indie rock/lofi to experimental/electronic to a more mature sounding alt-rock with global influences. I don't think many people recognize how ballsy some of those changes were. Blur were almost seen as a boy band at a certain point. As soon as the moody single Beetlebum and the self-titled came out, everyone said it would alienate their teenage fanbase and it was seen as a sort of commercial suicide. It was indeed a dramatic departure from their britpop roots, and they eventually went further with the following visceral album, 13. Ironically the self-titled was the album which spawned their biggest and most recognized hit worldwide, Song 2. Love them so much, each album provides a whole different experience
Radiohead are honestly one of the few modern mainstream bands who changed their sound consistently and never compromised the quality of the music while still remaining successful. They didn’t sell out like a lot of other acts did
Rap isn't a sound though, there's so many subgenres in rap and they clearly changed their sound. I would argue that they eventually just became pop with some rapping occasionally.
As much as I love Linkin Park (first modern rock band I got into), I'm not really feeling the new direction. I prefer when they stick to heavier sounds, even on more electronic songs.
eugenemetayhas I was feeling the new album at all just by listening to the initial songs they released. It's a much better album when listened beginning to end although Good Goodbye really seems out of place. But I really had a better appreciation for it after a couple of listens with my headphones.
Calvin Harris: Nu disco to Electronic Pop to EDM to Mumble Rap Pop (Fuck Mumble Rap music) Taylor Swift: Country to Mainstream Pop Nicki Minaj: Underground Rap to Mainstream Rap Pop Aphex Twin: Ambient to IDM Daft Punk: House music to Disco/Funk Tiësto: Trance to EDM
Courage My Love was a band I first heard of when searching through bands playing in my area for the first Warped Tour I went to. Saw them live, and enjoyed their energetic pop-punk sound and their material for what it was. Their first two EPs, For Now and Becoming, were easy listens for me. Becoming saw some more laid back tracks like All I Need and Dark Wood Dark Water (that one's long outro is a sort of guilty pleasure of mine), but Spirit Animal and Synesthesia took that in jarringly large steps, and those recent works pretty much consisted of more pop and electronic sound. I'm willing to give those albums another chance, as my first listen might have been clouded by the sheer surprise at the change, but as of now I hope the band returns to their energetic pop-punk sound. Geez, I really hate being "that guy"...
I’m surprised that Queens Of The Stone Age aren’t on here. Listening to their debut self titled album and their most recent album, “Villains”, shows how insanely far they’ve adapted since 1998. Not that they’re bad now, they’re still freaking fantastic.
Some bands are: Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Metallica, Korn and The Beatles (not really drastically but the Beatles went from love songs to psychedelic rock tunes
sprke123 It sacrificed great writing and an amazing performance from Chester to get a hit. It's not well-written, Chester sounds terrible, and the production is just terrible.
Re: Maroon 5 - Cold: You have to at least admit it's not as bad as "Don't Wanna Know (know know know know know know know...)" (Yes, I did that on purpose!) But you're right about Maroon 5 de-evolution. It's like Maroon 5 has become code for "Adam Lavine's failed pop career" lately. Other bands that have changed over time include Coldplay and (while technically not a band) Owl City. The last one maybe not so much, but you can't say that A Head Full of Dreams sounds from the same vain as Parachutes! And I have a new SOS episode idea: 7 Albums that genuinely surprised me (Basically, it's the exact opposite of the one you did on albums that disappointed you. You can talk about 7 albums that you weren't expecting much from, but ended up winning you over upon release.)
Meh.... I will always love Maroon 5 TBH. They are my favorite ! Their music isn't the same as before.... But their music will always have a place in my heart.
suicide season is okay I can listen to it and there's songs I like on it, but albums after that are all so good. I love how at that turn they introduced orchestral elements and more singy songs as opposed to all the screaming.
Here's a couple more ideas for new SOS episodes:
7 best opening lines to songs
7 bands that you have grown into
7 artist collaborations that should happen
7 worst musical clichés
MatchBox Music yes!
MatchBox Music those are all great ideas
MatchBox Music One of the best lists of ideas for SOS that I've seen!
i love the 7 best opening lines, i love the 7 artist collabs, and i love the 7 musical/ band cliches
My answers/choices for those would probably go something like this...
1st suggestion: 'Hurt' by Nine Inch Nails
2nd: The Wonder Years
3rd: Dave Grohl and Royal Blood
4th: Dance music drops and shallow club lyrics
Coldplay: Indie to Alt Rock to Pop
Panic! at the Disco: Alt Rock to Pretty Odd back to Alt Rock to electronic pop
Coldplay's latest album is still a little pop rock (with a little disco and dance in there too). Also, Pretty Odd = Psychedelic Rock/Pop
The thing wish Panic at the Disco is that somehow they transitioned into it way better than Fall Out Boy
I guess Too Weird could be considered alternative pop and I don't even know what to call Death of Bachelor but I love it.
Indie isn't a genre.
samuel martinez yes it is
"only Maroon 5 could turn a Kendrick Lamar feature into something grating"
Taylor Swift would like to have a word with you, Jon.
+Scripter ahhhh I like to pretend that never happened. So true.
Beyond ARTV Lol I was thinking the same thing
Scripter although Kendrick's verse is one of his worst verses it's probably the best part of the song.
Scripter Well I'm pretty sure this video is only about musical artists. Don't know what Taylor Swift has to do with that.
Scripter the Kendrick feature was the best part of that piece of shit .
At least Radiohead change their styles perfectly... Who agrees?
Elise Camara Desta Slay 👍🙋
Yea
Totally agree. No matter what style they go for, it works. While Pablo Honey and King of Limbs kind of float in the background, all their other records I thoroughly enjoyed even though they sound completely different. Love me some Radiohead.
Ashlee* Dawn kinda disappointing they couldnt top idioteque on their completely electronic album. It still has some moments though
No experimental rock isnt allowed in my religion tbh all mainstream rock genres suck
Rip Chester benington
Maroon 5's change is really upsetting to me. Songs About Jane is one of my favorite albums of all time and I wish they would've cultivated that sound instead of taking the easy pop route. Really a shame
7 amazing albums with horrible cover art and reversed?
Also you hit 50k yay!
Lianne Dekker this has 69 likes... gigitty
Lianne Dekker Iron Maiden - Dance of Death. Great album but one of the worst covers I have ever seen
jorgito93700 I looked it up and yeah that's pretty terrible
Countdown to extinction by Megadeth it's not that bad of a cover but I just don't like looking at it
I started liking BMTH from their Sempiternal era, but I'm afraid to admit it because some people would probably say I'm a fake fan lmao
Annisa Nurul Aziza I did to but I still like their old music and new
Annisa Nurul Aziza fuck that, when you start liking a band doesn't determine how real of a fan you are.
Kid From Yesterday This isn't about BMTH but Gerard's 40th birthday is today
Nichole Way He looks 30 still
sempiternal is just such a good album though
Whatever song Linkin Park make..... They excel in every genre... whether its be rock, nu-metal, hiphop, electronic or pop, they never fail to disappointment me..❤❤❤
Like you, I cannot stand Maroon 5's latest songs!! They're trying too hard to stay trendy, I wonder if they even truly enjoy their music lately. Do you think they'll ever go back to their original sound? I loved their first 2 albums so much as a teen.
Btw, you have nice skin and your hair and eye colors compliment each other well lol.
I couldn't agree more! I love their early material. There new stuff is just a waste of sound.
Ashlee* Dawn Yeah. *Cough cough* G;&&/ L)$:&/? Y!:&/??/. *Cough cough.*
Sorry, they're not ever going back to that
I am a huge fan of M5's oldest stuff. Songs About Jane used to be one of my favorite albums, and I loved their pop-rock vibe. I guess you can imagine my disappointment when I first heard V. And don't even get me started on Don't Wanna Know and Cold...
ŋøctalli same :/
ŋøctalli Don't Wanna Know is one of the boring and stupid songs I have ever heard. It actually made me swear off the radio coz I kept hearing it on pop and Top 40 radio
I really liked their first few albums too but now they are so bland and uninteresting
Me too.. I like all of their first 3 albums. But I got disappointed when they dropped 'Overexposed' album... it's such a disappointment they turned from groovy pop-rock into shitty mainstream pop. And now they are getting more and more sucks...
Yep i love Songs About Jane, It wont be soon before long and overexposed but then the fucking V album ruined it all
A few other bands who changed drastically...Paramore, All Time Low, Alice In Chains, Pantera, Metallica (well, debatable), Ministry, Green Day, AFI, Pearl Jam, Thrice, Placebo...
green day is also debatable, their "newer" stuff isnt THAT much different than their older stuff, at least their still a rock band and didnt go full electro pop
Robert Maclean Paramore is almost pop now
I think Paramore 's change was awesome, I personally love after laughter.
AFI FOR SURE. I still love them though
Punk Rocker AFI and Green Day did it pretty well, thankfully Green Day have gone back to basics and got rid of the whole rock opera thing. AFI change massively but damn did they make it work
I laughed really hard for some reason when Linkin Park came up and hearing the actual change from nu metal to pop. I don't know why
Probably because they're a case of failed re-invention.
I died a little bit, as i was someone who would always say "hey i know their sound is changing but give them a chance."
Matt Aronhalt because nu metal blows and lp recognized that and changed so they didn't go stagnant
I'm early lemme make a joke......
What'd Cinderella do when she got to the ball?
She gagged
Invisibilly good one m8
Invisibilly giggity
Hehe
as someone who lives in North Carolina and who's name is Caroline I am deeply offended by breathe Carolina
oh that's awesome :') and YOUR USERNAME
your username...leathermouth certainly was something else, wasnt it? very...../original/
kobra kid leathermouth is the best but idk if it's original. Just really good punk hxc
turn away FUCK YEAH ILY!?!!!
Breathe Carolina should definitly not be labeled "post" "hardcore"
Some suggestions:
Genesis
(Progressive rock -> Mainstream pop)
Pink Floyd
(Psychedelic -> Prog -> Pop -> Ambient)
Panic! At The Disco
(Emo pop -> Pop)
Green Day
(Punk -> Pop rock)
Pantera
(Glam rock -> Metal)
I'm hoping that these bands are on this list:
RHCP
Linkin Park
Maroon 5
Emily Merrell Drumming yes, yes, and yes
Jon, if you haven't checked them out, I'd suggest checking out the band "Biffy Clyro". Their first three albums are very alt rock and everything after that became slightly more "mainstream" however its still highly enjoyable. Just thought I'd suggest them based on the theme of the video as well as thinking you'll probably enjoy the work thoroughly. :)
Spookster i agree, saw them live and they're great. Jon should really check them out
Spookster MON THE BIFF!
Spookster I have commented this myself a few times hoping Jon would somehow see it, but never did. I love Biffy Clyro and I would agree with you on the evolve of sound but Puzzle , Blackened Sky, and Only Revolutions are my favourite albums from them

yes! !!! vertigo of bliss is the best album ever made!
So disappointing :((
the Maroon 5 change pisses me off so much
the Bee Gees would be a perfect example they go from classic rock to Disco, I love their album Odessa.
Most recognizable song intros! for example like Nirvanas smells like teen spirit or blink-182's All the small things
Linkin Park is one of the few bands where I don't mind the changeup. They just make good music whatever the genre is.
OML is absolutely not an evolution
@@inthedark8400 it is.deal with it
@@zack8865 it really isn't but whatever helps you sleep at night
Me: sees Thom Yorke
Me: clicks on video asap
right?
that's totally me
dude same
The Clash: pretty much full punk their first two albums before they used experimentation to perfection on London Calling until they went full on experimentation on Sandinista and Combat Rock for better or worse. Then they went full shit on Cut the Crap after Topper and Mick were fired.
30 second to mars also changed their style also now i don't like them
Sarthak Singh I mean,it's still good. Just less "rock" hopefully their next album goes back to rock
Sarthak Singh yesss
sprke123 no i don't think so jared said it once he will never play our old material there new record love lust faith dreams is like a teenage girl is updating his Facebook status sharing her problems. Up in the air is like a pop type song which is great for a teenage girl . i have nothing to do with them now
Yep, they went from Space Rock to Alternative Rock to Synthrock and eventually Indie Synthrock, even do I enjoy most of their latest material, I think that their debut album is their best effort, it was so unique and different
sprke123 And in 2018... They released their album "America". They never went back to Rock and turned to a complete EDM mess!
as for bmth, you can't say their first albums weren't good when you don't like that genre in the first place. as someone who enjoys deathcore, their first few albums were amazing!
ciara sykes only recently gotten into them only really listened to the 2 newest albums but I'm tryna get into the other stuff just tryna acclimate to the harder core stuff
About that, they released amo in 2019 which had Pop sound (except for MANTRA)
Chester said making every Linkin Park album felt like being in a new band. I can see there being quite an appeal in that. All of the Emo Trinity changed over the years.
MCR managed to stay rock when they ended
Nichole Way yeah. mcr is the only one that didn't become sell outs. I still like fobs and panic!s new stuff, but not as much (Also nice profile pic lmao gee is 40 now💜)
Nichole Way mcr went from 'emo rock' to 'idea'

Hybrid Theory and Meteora are the best Linkin Park albums
Gecko w/ a Bowtie DUH
Gecko w/ a Bowtie: Of course they are.
the only album of theirs they beat is One More Light tho
Someone Else: I agree, One More Light is a complete and utter joke of Linkin Park. Literally the worst album they have ever made. Even every other album after Meteora is better then One More Light. The lyrical concept is one of their best but the musical execution is the worst.
Living Things is the third best. Minutes to Midnight has lots of shit songs (mm hmm Hands Held High), A Thousand Suns is too political and boring, Hunting Party is a failed attempt at trying to be heavy again and One More Light needs no explanation. Living Things is gold

Album 3: lo-fi black metal
Album 4: ambient techno
Other bands I would say that have changed their sound would be Turnover they went to pop punk to alternative/indie rock which I don't mind. Also, it seems Gorillaz likes to change it up a bit on every album.
I know they're artists not bands but I love the evolution of David Bowie and Beck
YOU HIT 50.000!!!!
+Sasha Bowers I know!!! Insane!
Beyond ARTV are you able to do a top 10 or 17 Nickelback songs. I know people won't appreciate it but I like to know your thoughts about it.
One that I'd recommend Tokio hotel, German band that's huge in Europe that started like 10 years ago as an emo/rock act and now a pop/edm band
Scott Langford wouldn't call them "huge in Europe"
Scott Langford loooooove them omg
sempiternal was bring me at their prime, no doubt.
Suicide Season was the best
Great video as usual! Since you didn't do it yet, As a suggestion, you should do a rant video about M5 because I feel like that it would be a great topic for a long rant video.
Just seeing Thom on the thumbnail made me click this video. Thanks for talking about Radiohead!
I saw Maroon 5 on tour in 2013, and there were so many random touring members. Ten guys on stage, and I only recognized three.
When it's Over by Sugar Ray is a BANGER
Next should be 7 Bands Where Every Album Is Different Sounding.
Blur says hi
Could you rank Radiohead s albums or singles
Sean Byrne please do this it would be awesome
lol dude do you have any clue how long i've been waiting for it
He's not a big fan of Radiohead which is a shame.
1. Kid A
marco bazan undoubtedly :)
John's over here hating on Sugar Ray while I actually learned about them from this video and REALLY want to get into them now.
i saw this thumbnail and was like hey isnt that oli sykes??? clicked on it, and now im binging all your videos. nice work man
(plus you reminded me how much i love sempiternal)
Glad you're feeling better and back, I watch you every week since I found your stuff on RUclips 😀
Some Linkin Park songs on a thousand suns almost sounds like Coldplay such as burning in the skies, catalyst, iridescent among others
What about Pantera? I mean I guess to be fair they aren't a band anymore, but they used to be glam rock. That is quite a shift.
Some I've noticed the most:
Linkin Park - Nu Metal to Electropop
Coldplay - Indie to Pop
Hedley - Pop Punk to Electropop
Nine Lashes - Christian Rock to Electropop
Maroon 5 - Pop Rock to Electropop
I think it's interesting that Maroon 5 actually still use live instrumentation . The guitars get cranked up. I wonder why they can't put that talent into their new material ?????
Zach MusicLover Yup. Replace the squeaky guitars.
How about John Frusciante's solo career?
Indie/Art Rock to Experimental Synthpop/Breakbeat/Electronic
In the EDM World, there have been a great many artists who changed genres over their careers. Not all of them have done so gracefully.
Tiesto: Dutch anthem trance to Big room house.
Showtek: Hardstyle to Big room house (again).
The Chainsmokers: Goofy electro-house to Wonky/Future bass.
Zedd: Dirty electro-house to Wonky dogshit.
You get the idea.
Lmao you're not wrong with Zedd.
Nergal from behemoth (blackened death metal) has another band Me and That man (country).
They didn’t sell out like a lot of other acts did
Totally agree. Them and Blur had some of the most graceful evolutions in music
Congrats on 50k Jon love your videos
I feel exactly the same about RHCP, I'm so glad there's someone on RUclips actually talking about and appreciating them
can you do a top 7 modern metalcore bands
7 worst lyrics you've ever heard
Fairly Løcal Dreamer he's already done one pretty recent 😊
oh i hate myself obviously every pop song that chorus says the same thing 5 times
Everything off Raditude by Weezer
I'd love a 7 Excellent/Awful Album Covers.
What about Black Eyed Peas! They were great before fergie joined. Rip bep 1995 - 2003
bepempire this is about how they changed. And they’ve always been rap
Rap isn't a sound though, there's so many subgenres in rap and they clearly changed their sound. I would argue that they eventually just became pop with some rapping occasionally.
Green day
Punk rock -> pop punk
green day is my favorite band and this change was for the better
I think you should talk about Radiohead more. Maybe a throwback review of Kid A or In Rainbows? Idk just a suggestion :)
You just had your wish :)
Pink floyd changed to
Psychedelic rock
Avantgarde rock
Symphonic rock
Progressive rock
Pop rock
Progressive rock again
top 7 most consistent bands
As much as I love Linkin Park (first modern rock band I got into), I'm not really feeling the new direction. I prefer when they stick to heavier sounds, even on more electronic songs.
eugenemetayhas I was feeling the new album at all just by listening to the initial songs they released. It's a much better album when listened beginning to end although Good Goodbye really seems out of place. But I really had a better appreciation for it after a couple of listens with my headphones.
Muse: they went from Radiohead-ish alt rock to neo-progressive space rock and Queen baroque incorporating synths, choirs, orchestras...
The Beatles. They went from 'I Want To Hold Your Hand' to 'A Day In The Life' in 3/4 years.
Songs About Jane was a brilliant album, that was the only Maroon 5 album that I was willing to buy.
7 best Taking Back Sunday songs
Not a super well-known band but Ministry who went from synthpop to EBM to Industrial Metal and Thrash Metal.
Just one of the most well-known industrial metal bands of all time...
A LONG way from the song, "Everyday Is Halloween" that's for sure!
Imagine dragons (alt pop to pop rock)
Maroon 5 (funk rock to edm pop)
Panic at the disco (emo to pop)
Calvin Harris: Nu disco to Electronic Pop to EDM to Mumble Rap Pop (Fuck Mumble Rap music)
Taylor Swift: Country to Mainstream Pop
Nicki Minaj: Underground Rap to Mainstream Rap Pop
Aphex Twin: Ambient to IDM
Daft Punk: House music to Disco/Funk
Tiësto: Trance to EDM
Brayan Argandona Florentino gotta admit Daft Punk did a good job
Im surprised Panic! at the Disco and Fall Out Boy weren't on this list
Deftones: The shift from Around the Fur to White Pony is astounding
Maroon 5 my idols and my fav band, band of my childhood to band who hate the most now!!!
What about Brand New? Every album is different
Pop-Punk--> Emo -->Alternative Rock/Experimental Rock
Falling Up made the best sound change I've ever heard from Captiva through to the Self Titled finale. You should definitely check them out, Jon!
R.E.M. made a pretty significant change between their 80s Radio Free Europe sound and later stuff like Everybody Hurts.
I’m surprised that Queens Of The Stone Age aren’t on here. Listening to their debut self titled album and their most recent album, “Villains”, shows how insanely far they’ve adapted since 1998. Not that they’re bad now, they’re still freaking fantastic.
Glamtera to Pantera? Beatles? Beastie boys?
Some bands are:
Fall Out Boy, Linkin Park, Metallica, Korn and The Beatles (not really drastically but the Beatles went from love songs to psychedelic rock tunes
I love any video that rants on Maroon 5
Hey john have you ever heard of a band called Safia? Only asking because I've recently become obsessed :P
Linkin Park better be on this list. Heavy blows.
DestructionCentral - personally I like the track...that being said,it isn't linkin park. Although battle symphony is more linkin parkish.
sprke123 It sacrificed great writing and an amazing performance from Chester to get a hit. It's not well-written, Chester sounds terrible, and the production is just terrible.
DestructionCentral - heavy is not really 'heavy'
it sounds like every shitty boring alternative song these days
Sarthak Singh It's only 'Heavy' in the production. Mainly because of those drums. Which make me want to punch the producer in the face.
My mom always thinks i hate maroon 5, but i dont i just hate new maroon 5. Songs about Jane is one of my favorite albums
Other bands that massively changed sounds, The Beastie Boys, The Goo Goo Dolls and Incubus to name a few
And I have a new SOS episode idea:
7 Albums that genuinely surprised me (Basically, it's the exact opposite of the one you did on albums that disappointed you. You can talk about 7 albums that you weren't expecting much from, but ended up winning you over upon release.)
love your channel bro youve got some high quality content going on , hello from brazil
Does Queen count? They started having more variety in their late days...
My favourite example of this has to be Cobra Starship, who went from alt rock to electropop.
OK Computer to Kid A is still the most radical album to album change there is.
completely disgusted by maroon 5 the most
Agreed! M5 were good in their early days, but now they are...I hate to say it, THE definition of a sellout band. Sadly ☹
Yeah I wish more people knew about the heavier side to Sugar Ray. Both Floored and Lemonade and Brownies had some really good songs on them.
