The thing is death battle tends to portray their stats poorly in the animation. Asta completely shreds Deku but the animation seems on his side despite asta statstomping in the conclusion

The fights are just there to be cool. Popeye would obliterate Saitama in a second but they have to play it up to be interesting. You really shouldn't care about the animation as much as the outcome.
Thats the thing with sword fighters in Death Battle. Unless characters with regeneration are involved, they can't show the sword actuslly "slicing" shit otherwise it would just be a win for them. Thats why the swords dont actually cut anything until the end of the battle when one has to die otherwise they are essentially punches with an alternate skin.
I think that's not it. Cuz even in black clover they don't cut non magic... they crush and shatter and tear. It didn't work earlier cuz it was being used as a club basically. Worked later cuz it was extremely heavy Blunt but pointy clubs being slammed with great force down onto him into the grind the wrought and force pushed the blades int him. (Also he was on the verge of ko from his attack meaning he didn't have the def buff of full cowley) sooo in conclusion it makes perfect sense why it didn't work before and did "work" after.
@@QueDawg111 I'm not sure if you've read the manga, but even in the anime, Asta has been shown to use Black Divider to cut shit up. In the manga, Equinox literally is shown cutting apart an entire demon from miles away. He uses the Black Divider to cut apart a lower demon, he uses it to cut the wall, and Lilith and his twin are also ultimately cut before fusing.

@@QueDawg111 A sword is still a sword my dude. It's never been even eluded that it can't cut things that don't have mana. The sword was working against Liebe who himself has no mana. And I'm not talking about this fight specificslly I'm talking about all fights that use swords in general.
@mysteryman9488 except it doesn't cut liebe, it knocks him around until he uses the Katana(which is different from the others) in not saying they aren't swords, A dull rock in the shape of a blade and handle can be called a sword and can swing and hit like a sword but without sufficient Strength and weight won't cut if you rub your finger along A butter knife, or dulled sword it won't cut you off you press hard on either and swipe it will. Unless they have mana his sword are dull swords they have no sharpened edge. However they are heavy enough and swung hard enough to Cleave through stuff. They are swords, they can cut, But only against mana, Or with enough brute force. An opponent like Asta with dull cowling may be able to withstand the brute "cutting" of the blades for a while.

At a certain point it doesn’t really matter if Asta’s swords are sharp or not. A baseball bat going at light speed is going to give the same end result as a knife.

The problem with Death battle is that they portray their characters with status and one outclasses the other, but then in the fight they have to make it more even so the fight lasts longer. Asta destroys Deku. Also I don't think they pay attention to BC that much. They literally gave Asta three sword style like he is Zoro. Like what?
Fr, they didn't even mention zetten, a power that showed up BEFORE deku's new power, they def were on some favoritism shit, but either way the fight still was entertaining

He did it once (using sword in mouth) so they gave benefit of the doubt he c could use it more. Also the real problem is entertainment factor. If Asta comes in and one shots, A is a short fight B it's boring. It's OK to make it look close, especially when the reason exposing how far it really was

Just be glad they decided to not mention Asta’s full power. Otherwise, it would’ve been a bigger stomp (they capped it at Large Continent (Multi continent in post) to keep people guessing). Though, there were a few things that were iffy about the analysis animation (they only had a few researchers who were fans of Black Clover) but still a great fight.

@@zayy4440 Asta is not planetary. Lucifero may have been planet level, we have only seen half of his full power. Asta was clearly struggling to fight him at first and while he did defeat him in the end; that was still only half of Lucifero's strength (The other half was defeated by base form Lucius), thus making making Asta continent level at his best.
Look I agree as it stands now, Asta beats Deku. Just wanted to point this out.

Asta's swords were sharp enough to cut the extremely thick body of Dante. And that was just the physical damage. Ain't no way it's not cutting Deku. Not to mention Asta's insane speeds.

In devil union, he one shot an ancient demon that was stupidly big in size. He cut clean through the beast's body. This was no longer just erasing magic. He cut clean through a giant monster's body. In perfect devil union, he was tanking hits from Lucifero and not even budging. Add that to ki, and Asta easily wins
People keep bringing up devils reminding them that they are made of magic.
Here are way better showcases of why Asta’s blades are definitely sharp. Like REALLY sharp
- the spade kingdom fortress (though enhanced to make it move with magic, cutting a whole fortress like butter using anti-magic on stone means their sharp and can hit physically)
- Cut Ladros torso (that is definitely physical. Ladros didn’t appear to be made OF magic).
- Nacht’s battle. He cut the wall behind with equinox slash, that is most definitely physical and can easily one shot Deku
In short, Asta and his blades are dull unless they have anti-magic coated. Which he easily does it almost… every fight? So, the outcome would have been literally just one slash.

@@latenighttherapy6369 Devils are not made of magic bruh. 1) Liebe is a devil born without magic or anti-magic, he is a physical being 2) Asta in TDU shutsoff magical power, Asta could shut off Lucifero's magical power just by grabbing him, When Lucifero touched Asta he would have died if he was made if magic therefore, devils are not made of magic. They have magical life forms in BC already, they exist in the strong magic region, but devils are not one of them. Devils are physical beings just like humans and elves, they just have regen due forbidden magic + devil power.
@@latenighttherapy6369 it does not matter at all what the devils are made of. In the Lucifero fight, Lucifero was still able to fend off Asta’s black divider- WITH HIS PINKY. The anti magic is useless if Asta isn’t strong enough/potent enough to defeat the opponent. And in this case, there is absolutely no argument that Deku is more durable than any of the devils Asta has defeated. Extremely easy blitz

I think something about Death Battle that they value connections and similarities between characters for creating matchups rather than actual fairness. According to some Q&A blogs they've done, they don't mind if the outcome is obvious for a who-would-win debate so long as they can make an interesting analysis, comparison and animation between the combatants. When analyzing the matchup in this episode in particular:
-Modern Shōnen anime/manga teenage protagonists who came into being in the 2010s, and were born into their respective worlds without the abilities that most people in their world possess which they were looked down upon for before eventually receiving an ability that was stronger than others in their worlds, from someone else which contains certain entities. Said powers ended up being compatible with their formerly powerless natures, but they still had to train extensively to utilize them properly.
-Both share the aspiring goal of becoming the greatest hero in their respective worlds (the Number One Hero and the Wizard King, respectively) and have a rivalry with a prodigious childhood friend who shares said goal. Later, both also befriended a serious person with glasses who initially had a bad opinion of them and also rescued them from a deadly situation.
-Despite their enthusiastic personalities and tendency to overreact in many situations, both are known for being tactical fighters who often best their opponents with keen analysis and creative problem-solving. Additionally, while they are generally kind and compassionate individuals who are driven by their desire to help others, their headstrong senses of justice have led to them making brash decisions in the past, and both receive amplifications in power from feelings of intense rage and animosity.
-Both also have a close relationship with a female teammate who developed a crush on them but would put those feelings aside for their own path of standing strong on their own, whom they work alongside in a group whose motto is all about surpassing their limits, led by an uncouth but highly respected mentor figure who is often critical of them but also goes to great lengths to ensure their growth.
-Both would eventually obtain more powers as time passed, though along the way they almost had their careers cut short due to injuries they received to their arms.
...needless to say, they've got a lot in common, and makes for an interesting juxtaposition. That's why it was ultimately chosen as the matchup for them, even if the conclusion itself was somewhat forgone.
In the anime/manga didn’t Julius try to pick up one of asta’s swords, and then thinks to himself that this sword is freaking heavy and that it’s surprising that asta can lift and even swing this sword? If that’s the case, wouldn’t that mean getting hit by one of astas sword would still hurt a lot even if it wasn’t sharp?
The sword drains mana. Yes they are heavy, but they are exponentially heavier for People with mana. Again not saying they aren't heavy, just that that instance doesn't say much as Mama makes them heavier

I might be wrong but I believe that the battle at the end is simply for the epicnes. They decide a winner and then make an epic animation to make the video more enjoyable. Maybe thats why it seemed much closer than it should have been, since they tried to make it less one sided and more epic.
That is exactly what they do, and they have basically directly said as much. The research and conclusion is supposed to the the accurate representation of the fight, but the animation is just designed to look cool, with only the result being an actual representation.

IE, they aren't going to do something like a Naruto vs Goku battle, and have Goku lose, because he arbitrarily stayed in his base form (not that base Goku wouldn't solo all of Naruto, but i'm making a point.). Again, the animation is literally only there to look cool. The research and the conclusion are the only parts that are supposed to be accurate to how the battle would go.
Only exception being Homelander versus Omniman XD that was extremely one sided.
That kinda bothers me at some point because they would say one thing that wasn’t shown in the fight or was just wrong idk why though

They made Asta look dumb😂 even though he is a genius in battle and even performs techniques he just saw it and he also steals his opponents and allies techniques for his own , they really nerfed the f**k outta him lol.
Remember they still need to make an entertaining fight that represents the characters well and is badass to watch, even if one is far stronger or faster than the other.

Here’s what I think get fighters of similar power levels that’ll at least make it interesting and fun to speculate on who would win
Hey rob, the reason why they also made it look so close and why I liked it is because they try to make it more close to make it look more entertaining. For example, Thanos vs Darkseid, they explained that darkseid would have destroyed thanos same with popeye vs saitama but it looks interesting which makes it cool. If you did not know their actual strength you would think it was a close and cool fight and it looked tense, just wanna say that😅😅.
I think people forget the sword part of anti magic sword.

The swords worked at the end because the tops of the blades are pointed and those points landed on him. Rather than being slashed by the edge of the big sword which has been shown to be rather blunt and has been used as a blunt object. As well as deku using gear shift can also slow things down so that explains the slower asta.

The MHA movies are cannon, so any feat there can be counted.
They didn’t use 70% of Astas Manga feats…I won’t spoil anything. I also hate how they made him seem really dumb, obviously he is but not in battle “all I have to do is hit him really really hard” like wat💀
I feel like they downplayed both of them( though asta still wins) in battle intellegence and power.
All the movies in my hero are considered cannon because:
1) in movie 1's case , spoiler for the next arc in this season, but deku's next costume has the same full gauntlet(weaker ones tho) he used in the movie and although their names werent specifically mentioned melissa and dave were referred as the creators.
2)movie two in the manga nine did make an appearance in the manga(flashback tho) and in the anime shigaraki did use nine's force field quirk in his and endeavor's first fight in season 6
3) and movie three is cannon because well season 5 was rearranged just for it to be cannon and make chronological sense, the main villain even made an appearance in the anime

The creator of Mha helped work on the plot of the movie and he’s stated multiple times it’s canon in interviews and he even adds aspects of the movies into the manga

Actually if you watch for asta's feat that is actually in the early chapter of the manga.They said they're "best" feats but that's not even the case for asta.
1.That was not even his feat but rather julius's feat.
2.Asta's best feat interms of destructive capability is stopping lucifero's transformation using equinox slash.
3.The deku feat was with bakugou means deku's actual feat was actually half of what is portrayed in the video.
In conclusion they didn't calculate deku's feat correctly and making stronger then he should be and they also use weaker feats for asta in the early starting of the series

What confused me is that they used licht’s feat for some reason
So the thing with death battle is that it doesnt matter how onesided the fight is they will still try to make it look even and entertaining (just like now and with hercules vs sun wu kong) because no one would want to see a 10 second speed blitz from the winning character. The fights at least look good and most of the time they get it right (we dont talk about Aizen vs Madara💀)

Yo boss, Asta could still use anti magic against 'Emitter black whip (energy construct)' and 'Emitter transformation full cowling (Energy augmentation in physical body)', because in vs equalization the power system would be the same so anti-magic would be anti-quirk like Aizawa quirk 'Erasure' but on his swords instead of just eye contact with opponents. They’ve said on occasions that the animation is purely for the entertainment of it and not how a fight would really go. They have to make the show interesting so they throw in stuff to do exactly that make it interesting and entertaining to watch lol.

I've seen lots of comments(all over bit just this video) talking about durability and About how close it was.... but it really wasn't, the only thing they made close was speed. But until the very last blow area showed no damage at all. Barely any pain or anything. After the first few Detroit smashes he just kinda grabbed his sword and let it happen again. Deku didn't scratch him until the devil union ended, Which leaves him weakened. Meanwhile Deku was being wiped around and showed exhaustion and some damage. The fight did a good job of making it entertaining and look close ish while still very strongly showing how much Asta dominates.
Hey shonen showdown I just wanna say how much I appreciate your channel and how it can be an incredible information hub for the shows you cover but I have some very shocking news about my hero academia specifically relating to all might and deku I prey to god you see this cause I'm tired of seeing my fav characters be called week so yk how when anime characters move faster than light or specifically any object it becomes invisible to the naked eye well all might when he fought the usj nomu specifically he does this 3 different times in that fight and its amazing because this information and feats was grossly glossed over not only that but deku does this same thing in season 4 where when he powered up at 100% and he moved he disappears and reappears next to overhaul and hits him with a smash sending directly flying into the air
the feet is from movi but in manga they shown the main villan from said mowi so its propobly canon

When it comes to animation they usually have to make it look even (minus A few exceptions) for entertainment alone. They know he fast and stronger but they can’t make the fight boring.
I don’t think Death battle was necessarily saying Asta’s swords are weaker against Deku due to lack of magic but they were saying the swords are blunt which tbh doesn’t always apply cause we have seen the swords cut at times although most of the times it happens to be something with magic. But the swords have also been shown to be blunt such as when Asta strikes an enemy with the blade and instead of just getting cut in half they get launched as if it was a bat and I’m not even talking about major villains who could possible tank the cutting just regulars

The thing is death battle fight's usually look a lot more fair to keep people watching till the end cause if it was just not tryna keep fair like this match asta would just cut deku as soon as asta realised deku actually is a decent opponent but it's kinda like broly vs gogeta in the super broly movie they have to make it fair or it would be boring to see 1 side just completely destroy the other in a matter of minutes.

7:45, Pretty Sure the Movies are Cannon, at least according to the Mangaka.
So as a deku fan I was relatively hopeful for this death battle, not because its a good fight no, deku gets stomped but i was hoping for a battle like aqua man vs sponge bob or homelander vs omni man or tetsuo vs magneto. All of these are stomps but all of the portray each character so so well. Here I didn't really think deku was portayed too well considering in his fights especially against people who dont intend to kill or people who arent completely evil, deku tries to talk the opponent down as he's fighting rather than just a full on assault. Deku didn't really do that here, and while yes he is analytic in this fight I wish it took the route of the two fighting then over the fight as deku is talking during his fight asta gains a respect for deku. Ending with instead of asta even killing deku, deku overworks himself ending in his death. From what ive heard asta fans arent happy about how asta was portrayed and even though im not too into black clover I agree. Asta didn't really feel right he felt like a big meathead with no real strategy in mind. And going off of what little I've seen of black clover, theres no way asta is enough of a dick to kill deku in a tournament that wasn't even a battle yo the death at first. At first it just seemed like a regular battle which i mean its death battle so yeah it has to be to the death but I think to both characters it'd be better if asta outlasted deku and due to the drawback of fajin he dies due to overworking himself.

He wasn't cutting with the other swords because Death Battle said they felt more like blunt based weapons, and didn't work like typical swords not only because of the lack of magic in the fight.
