- Hello Everyone. Today I talk about the history of Patchy the Pirate, and how he has changed as a character as well as his highs and lows. @@matthewcooper6492 Patchy's played by Tom Kenny so no the actor isn't dead, but Stephen Hillenburg (the shows creator) did voice Potty and he passed away in 2018 due to ALS

I adored the Patchy segments growing up. When I went to a Comic convention Tom Kenny was at he put on a concert. He sang some jazz and blues songs but ended the convert in the best way possible. By leading the crowd in a couple of SpongeBob songs. Hearing him lead the crowd in the Spongebob theme song using the Patchy voice was incredible. Almost as incredible as hearing him sing Best Day ever in his SpongeBob voice to end the concert. Truly one of the best nights of my life.
This was really good, I forgot about a lot of the patchy appearances!
fun fact, the caveman is actually the voice actor for Patrick star at 8:26
Yeah I know and it really fits his character lol, also I found out that Tom Kenny did the Robot

14:14 Fun fact: The customer throwing up after eating Patchy's food, is played by Jill Talley, the voice of Karen Plankton and is actually married to Tom Kenny, SpongeBob's voice actor since 1996, 3 years before the show premiered in 1999. They met together as cast members on the HBO sketch comedy series Mr. Show with Bob Odenkirk & David Cross, which also features roles with Sarah Silverman (who would later voice Vanellope in Wreck-it Ralph) and Jack Black (who would later voice Po in Kung Fu Panda). Tom and Jill have two kids named Mack (born 1997) and Nora (born 2003) and they're still proud of their work to this day.
well i feel like patchy will appear as animated character because Tom is getting older and the design of him is a little bit more older , it’s just like recent seasons with SpongeBob since his voice is getting deeper now

Yeah I thought about talking about that segment, but decided to keep it in the SpongeBob Universe. I am considering doing a follow up video where I talk about Patchy's commercials and his BTR appearance.

Friend or Foe is my Favorite Patchy Segment
There have also been Times where Patchy Would Share Different Moments From SpongeBob While having his own occasions, Like, On Halloween, On Bikini Atoll, and Even Live Streaming for Christmas. He also Told Potty Stories which also led to different episodes in Season 7's legend of Bikini Bottom.
Yeah I did see some of his segments from Halloween, but I didn't know he Live Streamed for Christmas, or also had any involvement with the legends of Bikini Bottom specials. I have been thinking about talking about Patchy's involvement outside of the SpongeBob series, if that's something people would be interested in

there is a theory that sponge bob died during his last appearance and him meeting sponge bob is just a hallucination, and that patchy suffocated to the death

In the shanghied episode, i honestly don't remember the idea that they did the whole contest as to who would get the last wish. Of course, it could have been because they obviously only ran it once, and, never again. With cavey in SpongeBob bc, it's interesting they got Bill fagerbakke, Patrick's voice actor to play cavey. You can clearly tell when they sing the "when worlds collide." Of course, with tv shows or movie's, they could just add the audio in post, but still. Also, in the lost episode (the sponge who could fly), outside of for a possible joke, why was patchy wearing his pirate hat in the shower? We saw him in the Christmas who episode being able to take it off. With the boot patchy puts on his peg leg, is that symbolism for the writers allowing and/or relieving tom kenny of the peg leg role? With the peg leg, i know it technically could be possible to create the illusion of having a peg leg in tv shows and other similar media without actual amputation, but, my method , or, the way i can think of does it at the potential sacrifice of blood circulation. In the clip they showed of SpongeBob flipping a burger and it landing just right in the friend or foe episode, well, we never see anyone taste it compared to patchys. With the things listed in that same episode such as patchy putting meat in his boot, letting rats roam the kitchen and not washing his hands, well, as you say koopa, im not sure how you do either, but the other 2, wouldn't the health department havw a problem with those? And, eeewwww. With patchy throwing patties at potty and then the gorilla doing it to him, well, things came full circle seems like. With the Atlantis SquarePantis, i think on the wiki it mentions betamax, so, i think potty threw patchies betamax player away, not the DVR, unless they say something different in the special that contradicts what the wiki mentions.
It’s sad to see less of patchy as the years pass, and while I don’t think his new segments are exactly “bad” I think they really miss the original point of Patchy which was that he was an homage to the classic tv hosts talking to the audience, but on a small budget. That’s why Potty’s a puppet in the first place after all, the new segments lack the homemade feel of the originals.
Yeah I agree they feel overproduced IMO
32:07 yes most parrots do eat seeds, nuts, fruit, and chalk, however there is one parrot that does eat meat I cannot remember what it is called, and I think that macaws have been known to eat meat sometimes

It would have been so nice to have a cameo from patchy after the end credits of the spongebob movie, he played an important role in spongebob and the only reasons they didnt include him were purely corporate. Even watching the movie as a kid it felt strange how they had all these other pirates but patchy was completely missing.
I appreciate your video and I mean no disrespect when I say this, I am having a hard time understanding you for a lot of the video. This isn't necessarily even your fault, I have tinnitus. I know this is asking a lot, but do you think perhaps in the future you could consider doing your own subtitles? RUclips's built in one is barely passable and I know it's getting a lot of stuff wrong, even if I can't always grok what it's actually supposed to be.

I disagree Atalntis Squarepantis is a great episode. I always liked that one. Its a fun Willy Wonka spoof.
That's fair, I will admit that a Willy Wonka parody is an interesting idea for a SpongeBob Special, and some of the art style changes are also pretty good, I just didn't really like the musical numbers, and I also thought the twist with Plankton at the end was sort of weak.
