- Tribute the the admired Chris Squire. One of my favorite Chris squire bass tones. He changed up sounds from recording to recording. I realized when I was brushing up on this I learned some it wrong. I was fifteen then. This is a fun song for me to play. Was a bit challenging to recall the bass arrangement just the way he played it. Oh what the heck.. If only i had more time.... chris tristram
How did Chris Squires brain even "Generate" these thoughts that he converted to music. It's AMAZING!
LSD apparently. 😆
@@TheButteryBiscuitBass YES !!!!!!!!!!!
Drugs!
@@TheButteryBiscuitBass Nope. By and large the members of YES were not druggies.
Imagine singing and playing this. allThrough Squire's career his backing vocals are superb.
Imagine singing high harmonies to Jon Anderson, whilst playing the stuff Chris played.
The Man is gone but his music and influence live on. A truly great tribute to Chris.
Really got the tone down, you play it very well, it’s amazing that Chris really wasn’t a theory guy, but his bass lines were so on the money! He really had an exceptional ear…and imagination. Thank you!
CHRIS WAS THE BEST.. THX!
Spot on tone - so snarly! Killer playing, you rock!!!
I know right? I just watched and listened and I am so amazed
This also reinforces what an amazing drummer Bill Bruford was.
Jess Cain rythmic section Bill Bruford and Chris Squire... da togliere il fiato...
The two parts work so well together, especially in this song
Bill Bruford was the KING !!!! My gawd, what a rhythm section.
Beastmode! How awesome was Chris Squire on bass, to make these bass lines up that are still unrivaled to this day.
I have to say I LOOOOOOOVE watching this video. I think this bass line is AMAZING and you are so awesome to watch pulling it off! Cheers to you sir!
Playing this song as a bass player takes you on a journey, just as it does everytime I listen to it. Love seeing and hearing this live.
Chris, I can't tell you how much I enjoyed Double Vision at the Tally Ho. First show in two years. Will be seeing and hearing you guys, again, for sure.
thanks so much , sorrry it took so long to reply, I almost never reply just because I dont see these come in...great to meet ya!!
wonderful - and well played - that song and bass run still gives me shivers after all these years ----------- ironic that YES is not considered worthy of being in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ----but they induct KISS ! ----------it's beyond my comprehension.
Couldn't agree more, there isn't a member of Yes who wasn't on top of their game musically. Really no comparison, it's a no brainer that they should be in the HOF.
Yes is better than the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. They're simply in another class.
It's a badge of honor that YES is not in that overhyped, commercialized, popularity contest craphole. Jann Wenner wouldn't know good music if it was shoved down his throat. YES soars above almost every band the place.
I agree completely !!
Douglas Humphries lo
keep coming back and watch this master piece at least twice a week. Chris , you are a brilliant musician and thank you for uploading this beauty.
So Smoove and compelling to watch the nuances of the way Chris played. Your name is wordy ! Thank you for posting.
Perfect. I hope Jon is watching this. You could fill in for chris. R.I.P. Chris
You're a killer man, it gave me goosebumps! You're great!
Thanks!! One of my favorite yes tunes!!!!
Neck p/u into a 60's wollensack tube tape recorder into mesa boogie cab. Mic'd with a condenser into PT plug in add compression. Bridge P/u into 70's mxr blue EQ into Transmorgrfier compression pedal into a fender tweed pro Junior with alcino (blue) 10" speaker distort those tubes a bit only when you dig in make it bright. Mic'd with A tube condenser. Sounds cool in the room live.. Low action and straight neck so you can hear string buzz.. Thanks CT
If I were immortal, I would still never tire of listening to this piece. You do it justice. Brilliant!
本当に弾いているのかと思えるほどの上手さ。あのベースのタクワン噛んだコリコリ感、表現できています。
Man that just made my day. You tore that iconic masterpiece up. I closed my eyes & no shi*, it was note for note. C.S.'s tone matched perfectly & I was 16 again. Thank you. Holy *hit that was good.✌️
thank you so much!!!!
Oh, this is good! Really good! Thank you for rocking this piece. It's one of my favorite Yes songs, and I respect them more highly than any other band :D
I've known and loved this song for over 30 years, and you just pointed my interest to the bass line for the first time! I'm a melody player (guitar) and that explains why I hardly ever listen to Yes music with 'bass ears'. But the combination of hearing the notes and seeing you play them is absolutely revealing. What a fine, melodic, original bass player Chris is, and always has been throughout his Yes career. Keep up the pretty good bass work!
Gives me the goose bumps . . . . Thanks Chris. It's so good to see the notes being played . . .
12 years later and you are still getting compliments on how outstanding your playing is!
thank you///.. fuck cant be that long ago
Been watching your cover since I was like 16 man, been hooked on Rickys now at 23!@@monoforone
Really incredible execution... great to see that Chris Squire continues to inspire.
Such an amazing composition, too... I sorely miss this level of musicianship in today's popular music.
Thank you for sharing and the dedication to your craft.
OMG! Goosebumpules all around!!! Where were you when I used to play drums!!?? Great..just Great! Dave
This was excellent! It shows very well how Chris Squire conceptualized the bass differently than anyone else. Well played. LOVE the sound of that Rick!
Incredible. Just incredible. Squire would be impressed no doubt
Stunning- bloody well done!
Thanks!
nice job brother im a huge squire and yes fan and also a bass player i have seen yes many times and had the chance to go on a cruise to the edge and meet my idol chris he was truly a genius and a very funny guy etc anyway i know for a fact chris would give you the thumbs up nice job!!!!!
Thx, I meet Chris a few times when I was living in LA... He's the reason I started bassing!!
You are killing it again! Great musical skills.. such hard bass parts and you got it! So Impressive!
Way to go! He would be honored. Looked like a lot of hard work, too.
, You nailed it with grace and confidence.
Wow! I'm impressed beyond words. Any YES tribute band would want you on bass.
yes I would love to tribute yes.. or take billys spot.. lol but that wont happen!!
Really nice playing...the sound is right on !
Ok, now that your warmed up what can you do? OUT OF SIGHT MAN!!!!!!!!!! Thanks so much for let us see this amazing tribute level bass playing.! I want to be YOU when I grou up!!!!. LOLhahahahahaah
Just got round to listening to this. Great stuff Chris T, lovely style. A fine tribute to Chris.Squire
I got this album a couple weeks ago. listening to this high at 1am and i heard the bass at 7:33 and had to see what was going on visually so i can hear it more clearly. Great tone and cover.
Thanks for listening!!!
AWESOME Such as crazy bass line. Totally unique. Playing it is one thing but writing it is another, I never realized how interesting and over the top the line was until i saw this video. Great job!
yes, the writing/// thats the part that floor me.. incredible chris squire is...
I forgot how much i loved this song. Thank you! (Great playing, by the way.)
Wow! As a Yes fan, every note you played is beautiful. Thanks!
Brilliant cover of a brilliant song!
VERY nice job, Chris. I'm now 67 and have arthritis in my right thumb, to the extent I cannot hold the pick rigidly enough without pain to play my Rickenbacker 4001 as you are doing. I still play, but can only do so with my right-hand fingers now. It saddens me not to be able to play along with these Squire/YES tracks any longer. In my day I could do a pretty plausible job (he states, modestly), like your super effort here. Keep up the great work - your video has made me quite happy. Merry Christmas, 2022.
thank you very much.. im 63 now and its creeeping in// happy summer!!
Chris seemed to slip away without anyone noticing. RIP Chris and fantastic job here. I think the person who clicked on dislike for this video really needs to explain themselves!
+legshakermaker1968 The one who disliked this video is a Fender freak who hates Rics xDDDDDDD
I use Fenders for some stuff but Rickenbackers are my #1 for most everything and I use the stereo most of the time.Doesn't matter what you play it's what you like and how well you play.Nothing like the Rick sound when used properly.I'm using this vid to relearn this after some years and it's good.I'm almost there.couple more days.Great job Chris, when ya trying out for Yes!
still enjoy watching this video - your a great talent!
Incredible job Chris ! So many great ideas crammed into one song...How Chris Squire managed to play all this while singing is beyond me...I really enjoy watching all your Yes covers
Chris Squire you are a bass genius
Thanks!...no wonder you got it right ( I mean you really got it to detail, carefully crafted )...congratulations!
thank you sooo much for this ... made my week
I always enjoy this cover like the first time i saw it, flawless job Chris, hands down!
Awesome playing Awesome song 🎵😎👏
THANK YOU
That tone is scarily close, sounds insane
Was a fun song to play. Thx!
When I think bass guitar, this is the sound I hear. To me, this is the ultimate bass sound.
I totally agree, the Rick fits perfectly into this style of music. Thank you.
Chris, did you run this in stereo or mono. I mean, the tone you’re getting is so spot on I’m wondering if I can get close with my 4003S that only has the mono jack.
I'm impressed. This piece is no joke. It's hard.
Your plectrum technique is an inspiration to me. (mine was never that good)
Chris all i can is WOW! I'm a big Chris Squire fan and have a great ear for every riff he pulls off! Just like My fav Bass player John Entwistle RIP:( You pulled off every chord and scale to perfection! Well done Chris!:)
great work! felt like I was listening to a bass-boosted recording of the original. very well done :)
Thanks one of my favorite songs of all times.
Absolutely Brilliant !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Excellent sir! I so want a Rickenbacker bass too lol
Dude, you are just killing it in this performance! Bravo! Your sound and playing here is about as good as Chris' best here.
@boys1980 I have been asked a few times about the Ricky sound. Bass needs to set up in this manner. New rotosounds, neck straight, lower action, Rear pickup, adjust hi enough so it growls when y dig into it. Guitar amp slightly clipping (playing hard) 12' speakers...or 15' (Never liked tens for top end. not open sounding enough.) top end + 2.5k ish .flat eq on bottom. MXR 10 band Blue EQ. Most important is your technique.. play it bright and clanky! CSquire used Marshalls then Sunn.
Way to crush that ! Well played !!
Awesome nuance and tone; thanks for sharing. Brings back memories of woodshedding as a teen; I should never have given up my bass gear.
Brilliant improvised outro there...Squire would be proud!
Excellent job, man. You nailed it. You cracked me up when you missed Chris' second lick when the 1st verse kicked in..."F@$k!" Ha! I do that too!
Great performance "style" Squire ! il suono è smarmittato proprio come l'originale :)
One of man fav yes Songs. Love that groove. Yes forever ❤️✌🏻
@lescar88 Thanks lescar88! I'm not in a band as of now but I am looking...I'm working on "Yes" Perpetual Change. Learning it now will be next video.
right on: that will great to see/hear!
Absolutely masterful.
Top work, and tone,@Chris Tristram! Just at 01:03 I giggled, watching you seem pretty annoyed you missed the one little upward run, and going "fuck."
Not poking fun-it's a live recording for you, after all, and was killer. Not even Squire gets it exactly live. I remember seeing Wakeman pull the same face on a '00s live recording when he (kinda badly) fudged the final triplet glissando from the Wonderous Stories keys solo, and just kind of went "Ahh, shit. Well, I fucked that!" in a closeup. And that made it on the DVD! Anyway-thanks!
Learned to play this by ear. Thought I'd mastered it. Just watched you play it properly and realized I am only half way there! Thanks (?)
Exceptionally well done! Thank you for sharing your talent with us.
It's my face CS part to play that marching beat and all the rhythmic and counter melody dynamics.. WELL DONE BROTHER!
The love shines through the impeccable tone and playing. Well done brother.
Excellent!
Many thanks!
Excellent job my friend
Holy smokes! you could fill in for the real Chris squire. How did you get that tone..
I saw a tribute Band in Montreal called CTTE, short for Close To The Edge, a band from which the singer got recruited for Yes he sang 4 years and the bassist was using a Line 6 Bass Pod Pro XT which when plugged in a Mixer gives you a sound quite similar to that of Chris Squire, maybe not as fuzzed as this one but for a live show a sound very near. I even told the bassist that he sounded closer to the Yes sound then Chris Squire which i saw 3 times live in recent years !
First thing is to set up bass to grind. Low action and set pickups to overload.. the pickup part is touchy..
Set up amp on the boarder of clean when you pick medium into clipping as you dig in.. Some bassists won't like setting up this way, it's far from clean and pure. But I love it that way.. I've spent years looking for this type of time when very little info was available.. listen to squires isolation bass tracks. You'll hear that incredible lovely sound.. which I'll never really get..
@@richardbreton9000 sorry this is so late, squire cleaned up his tone . I know what you mean. I noticed it too.
This is such an intricate and varied piece. I especially love the ending!
Fantastic job Chris ! I am a real fan of Yes and I play the bass too.So I do know the hard work behind this so beautyful and so myhic prog song.
Bravo and thank you.
And happy new year too.
Philippe d.M.
Beautiful My Amigo
Amazing, really awesome.
One of my absolute FAVORITE CS parts--you nailed the dirty growl and I only wish you smiled more--you're playing GREAT music--ENJOY it! WELL DONE BROTHER!
Excellent. Congratulations!.
Cool thanks ..The system does not go loud you can talk while it's going..(wollensack tape deck is only about 5 watts) and is dirty on the top and on the bottom.. all tubes.. really growley w clear top.. Thanks again ,Chris..
Hmm Eddie Guererro playing bass like a champ!
Well played! Yes is my all time fav.
awesome job! Nothing like a Ric bass - and you bring it all out!
best chris squire playing on youtube.. awesome bass tone
Very well.Congrats.Smooth cover.
Ya...well done. Good tone, too.
Great job, thanks for share. God bless
I can handle that! CTTE is one of my two all-time fave albums!!
RIP Chris Squire!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very, very nice. Thank you!
One of my favorites. Very nice job, Tristan!
Hey, very well done!!!!!
Doesn´t get any growlier than this!!! wow!!
Chris, Of all the bass players who are not Chris Squire, yours is the most accurate sound to CTTE that I've heard. Please let us know how you achieve that breakup that is so accurate. I have a 4001C64 with horseshoe and toaster, from which I get the perfect voice, but have not achieved the natural, pleasant distortion you have in this video. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Im wondering aswell. That sound is sooo spot on. Jesus
Coolest bassline ever. That first note! Ah!
That must have been very cool .. I used to see them at the garden in the late 70's thru the 90's!
Dude !! That was freaking awesome... thx for posting.
Bloody excellent!!
