Start / Stop is the dumbest idea, had it in a rental and it is all BS. What damage does it do to an engine in the long run. Another BS imposed by our corrupt govt and manufacturers to steal our money. Long term, EXPENSE vs Cost effective
This gentleman in this video speaks all my doubts. I have a 2021 Toyota Highlander at first I replaced the battery thinking it was the problem, in less than a year stop/start has failed me again left me without power in traffic lights my mechanic test the battery it’s still good so now I drive without activate the stop start feature. I hate it so much.
@@DanielDiaz-te6dl ya I recognized that in my comment. Obviously everything will go quicker in your vehicle than in mine. I have put on 80,000 miles since May 2017. I imagine you would do that in 1.5-2 years. Still, 2 years on a battery is pretty bad. It’s actually probably better that your alternator is constantly keeping your battery at or near the top charge level while mine could be sitting for a couple weeks in below 0 temperatures or only occasionally making very short trips. Since my vehicle has Stop Start that should be harder on the battery. Luckily I have found the “ sweet spot “ where I can come to a stop with brake pressure that is so “ soft “ that the Stop Start doesn’t activate. Also, it’s pretty easy to shut it off but of course you hav3 to do that every time you restart the vehicle.
I live in the South. Even the 30-90 seconds that the engine turns off for will allow the cabin to begin to heat up on a clear, sunny day in the Summer.
Remember one other item. That Autel memory saver is using pin 16 of the DLC. That is a "fused" 12 volt terminal. What is the condition of that fuse? Some vehicles use that fuse to power up "power points" also called cigarette lighters. Plug in to the power point something that blows out that fuse and your memory saver won't work. There goes all the modules memories and here comes the headaches! Be certain pin 16 is working before plugging in the memory saver and disconnecting the battery.
I installed a start/stop eliminator module in both of my vehicles. I was at a light with a dead engine because the start/stop system wasn’t working. It took six starts to get going and ordered the elimination module the next day. Tip: If your car has a 120v outlet, try using a nightlight. In certain vehicles this will disable the start/stop.
For my 2019 ford fusion the websites for buying a battery say that AGM Valve Regulated Lead Acid VRLA is required, so a professional installation is needed. What does this mean?
can a 2018 Toyota Highlander XLE gas with start stop swap its 604CCA EFB battery with either a 710CCA EFB or an AGM? Are there ECM / BMS settings that need to be adjusted in either case? If yes, will the Autel BT work with the Toyota?
You will have no problem swapping it out for a higher CCA. Just make sure it is a AGM battery. You don't have to reset anything. I did it. Runs good again. When you get into the 2020 Highlander I heard those have to be set by a scanner.
Save time and just replace a battery with the same size with the same specs. Start/stop vehicle's might have a larger spec battery, but if so, again just replace with what was on the vehicle. It's really a no brainer.
I think I would rather stick with my old vehicle. I had a Subaru with a stop/start and hated it. I disconnected this functionality. The CVT transmission was horrible. I back traded it on an older car 🚘. From 🇦🇺
It can, you may be able to find where to connect one in the owners manual. You basically want to connect it where the current sensors detect power going into the battery.
The start\stop function is a joke. I maybe, save $5 to $10 of gas per year (and I'm a top Uber driver in my area). But yet, the battery only lasts 2 years. The battery sells for $144 plus $20 installation. What a joke.
Do not take the function on a cost saving perspective. The function was mainly introduced considering the environment. Suppose 100 vehicle stopped at a red signal switch off engine for one minute, how much carbon emission could be cutted down with no human effort. There is always a bright side of each technology..
Hi there, I have another question. Do I have to first undo the ground cable or the negative bolt of the pole, in a Ford vehicle which has the stop&start system and BMS, before to swap or recharge the battery outside the vehicle? Thanx again!
2:02 ... "every time the car comes to a stop the car shuts off to conserve fuel"... our 2014 LR4 doesn't shut off every time... only occasionally....which is concerning, especially in city driving...and my wife drives cross country.
Sometimes the stop/start feature will be disabled by the car for example, the temperature outside is to cold. Or the air con is running hard with other power drawing devices like radios and headlights etc. A battery has the largest power draw at start up so if other things are running it would put a considerable strain on the battery to continue using the start/stop feature.
Hi, my vehicle has a EFB battery, I know it is possible to upgrade it with a AGM type. You suggest on the video it's not always better to use a more powerful battery, especially with today's cars with much electronics and stop and start system as well. Searching for AGM batteries I've found specs a little hotter than my stock EFB battery, is it a problem? I can't find a AGM with the same values of my actual Efb. Thanx!
perfect video ! keep it up ! :) just a quick question.. my car is i30 2015 and and need to change battery for AGM, the thing is that positive is on left side... do u think its ok to install battery in 180 degrees? back to front... Thanks!
I wouldn't try - odds are the cables may not reach and I always encourage techs to only replace any component with an OE equivalent. Stick with the battery specs it came with.
I have a 2020 Grand Cherokee with 18k miles on it. A yellow auto start/stop light is on on my dash. From time to time I noticed the radio and interior lighting wont shut off when I parked the car for the day. 30 minutes after turning the engine off the radio and interior lights are still on. I have to pull the positive lead off the battery to shut them down. Anyone else having this issue? Also I don't use the auto start/stop function at all. Any help is appreciated.
Sounds like you may have some module issues. If these are bringing the battery down, it may be disabling the Start/Stop function. If it is under warranty, take it to your local dealer.
Hello, about the start-stop function, if you want to DIY the settings, you need related high-end equipment. I recommend the Phoenix Plus from Topdon to you, because I am also using this product to perform the start-stop function. Some problems, the experience is not bad. This is a video of me using Plus to activate the start-stop function for the 2017 Audi A4L: ruclips.net/video/FgmuvcvAAcc/видео.html , share it with you here, you can refer to it. If you are interested, you can click to take a look, or give me your opinion. There are more videos on my homepage of using different devices to do different functions of the car. Wrong. The battery doesn't run the electricals on a vehicle the alternator does that. The battery is simply a reservoir of energy to run things while the engine is off like starting the engine.
So now they've made batteries difficult to replace yourself... I can get a battery, but it is the "registering" of said battery that needs a pro. Ugh...

I can tell you from experience that not reprogramming your battery back to the vehicle (if required) will certainly and drastically shorten its life. I have installed hundreds of batteries. I can also tell you some battery suppliers are now starting to require that you supply proof of recalibration in the event of a warranty claim for the do-it yourselfers. Just FYI. @@jakelincoln9895
