    Year 3 and I am finally getting several bundles. Atleast I hope so. Lol
    Woke up this morning and was watering the backyard and just stumbled upon several mini clusters. Cant wait! This was a $2 salvaje. I've been keeping it 5 tall. 4ft wide. The foliage does so well in our Las Vegas summers!

    Thank you for this. I have Monukka in it's second year and no fruit yet. This gives me hope.

      Hey Robin! Hang in there. These vines are LOADED with fruit this year and the wine we made from these grapes last year is VERY good! They taste really good fresh also!

    It’s a seedless variety. I just bought a vine and it said monukka seedless on the label. Do they grow as fast as red flame seedless?

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  3 года назад +1

      They don't produce as well as the Flame, but they do vine out really well. The seedless thing has us scratching our heads wondering if these are truly Monukka grapes, because they definitely have sporadic seeds. We bought them bare root from Home Depot and that's how they were labeled from the producer, but who knows. It's a good tasting grape that makes a decent red wine.

    I'm thinking of trying this type yours look pretty good and I bet this year you guys had a lot of grapes from this (Black Monukka). You won't consider selling me a couple of cuttings? Good video keep them coming.

      Hey Michael. The harvest was decent this year, not quite as strong as 2018. We're in the process of selling the old farm having moved onto our new acreage. If we still have the old property once the vines are dormant we may be able to figure something out if you're in the Phoenix area.

    How do you prune black monukka, flame seedless, thompson? are they cane/spur pruned? thanks.

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  2 года назад

      Hello Aparna. Here are the common methods for each of those varieties;
      Monukka - Spur or Cane. We have done both with success, but lean towards cane pruning
      Flame - Spur
      Thompson - Cane
      Hope this helps!

      It's supposed to be seedless, but we get occasional seeds in ours.

    Can these grapes be grown own-root or must they be grafted?

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  2 года назад +1

      Great question and you can do either. These were rooted cuttings that we planted bare root and they do OK. A solid root stock for your area would preferable in my opinion, but we have not been able to secure them on a compatible root stock for our soil.

      @@EdgeofNowhereFarm Thanks for the comment, I have a rooted cutting from Lowes that's just a tiny stick. I live in the central valley of CA, hopefully it will do well in the ground but so far it seems to be pretty weak growing. As the plant and fruit have matured have you noticed any more tannic notes in the flavor as we would expect?

    • @EdgeofNowhereFarm
      @EdgeofNowhereFarm  Год назад

      @@carpy1252 the fruit itself makes a pretty decent wine with tannic notes similar to your lighter red wines. I would say it's more similar to a Zinfandel vs Cab. The only thing we've found with the Monukka vs common wine grapes is they are not as consistent a producer for us.

      Hey there Rodrigo. We no longer own the farm that you're seeing here, but we have Thompson, Monukka and Flame grapevines that are newly planted that just started pushing out new growth. Would you like pics of those? If so, send us an email so we can get those over to you. Our email is on the About Tab here on RUclips.

      Hey there Oman. We actually don't have access to these vines any longer as we've moved onto a larger property. We do have Black Monukka vines in the ground here, but we won't have cuttings from them until the winter of 2022/23.

      Hey Sonia! We didn't have any in the smaller grapes, but when we harvested the fully mature fruit they had seeds. Wonder if we have a different variety maybe? They make for a pretty good red wine grape!
