    Love the shades, bro! This is the best video I've seen on grapes. "Do I still look good? I do, don't I?" Narcissist. Lol 😂

    There is a tool to remove metal posts that makes it easy.
    The soil in a vineyard should be prepped the fall before planting and before putting in the trellis. A little bit of prep is worth years of struggle. I learned that from old vineyard people. You want that ground not compacted so young roots grow outward quickly. You also want any amendments to spend the winter being utilized by the soil biome so they are ready for the plants.
    Bird houses around a vineyard... you are just asking for it.
    If a home orchardist doesn't have room for dead man cables, simply put more wooden posts in and then connect to tops with 2x4s. This method is also better if you decide to go with T posts, which I do. I can get 4 times the grape production out of T post trellises.
    I like the cable connector you demonstrated.
    Interesting channel.

    Awesome video thanks. My soil is more of a clay down here in SoCal so Im thinking about buying an auger instead of digging holes by hand. I really do appreciate all of the tips!

    I would have though and end h frame support would have been necessary to stop the grapes pulling the posts inwards.

    Your density seems to be extremely low? Any insight on that?
    Similarly what did you do prior to planting? Any soil analysis? How did you choose your rootstocks and scions?

    • @DirtyVineyard
      @DirtyVineyard  4 года назад +2

      You are correct. We had to be realistic about what we could accomplish, just me and my wife. Harvest would be impractical if we had more density, we do it ourselves. We chose the Alvarihno and Arinto as we like the wines, but also because we are the same longitude as Portugal with similar soil and climate.

    What kind of wires are you using ?

  • @jfulton
    @jfulton 4 года назад +1

    Do you need a deadman? Can the weight of the vines pull your post down? I have a backyard setup with a single row that has a total of 7 vines. I didn’t put a deadman on my posts. Just planted my vines this year and most just reached the first wire with a few already reaching the second wire.
