Would love to get JC on this channel or another to go a bit deeper into his process on being a GM for VTM. We have so many great resources for D&D5E but not so much for VTM. The lore is expansive and game mechanics are complex enough that embarking on and creating a campaign can be daunting. Would love to see a session 0 and example play of combat. If JC does it, all the sweeter.

The only things I would think, when players acted weird and story might have changed, are: - when Rey decided to attack in the club, and Fuego and Serif assisted him, both because of the aggression / pissing Consuela off, and with Fuego charming Richter for the time being; - when they so succesfully completed the first and only mission, including straight out cutting the hand, defeating the gang, and even gaining information; and I think that in general getting their own territory rather than having to do missions directly for Richter is what really changed all and those are the only wild things I can think of that caused that.
I can be more grateful for Jason. He has made me a better storyteller which makes a better game for my players. I love the way he orchestrates the story. I steal from his genius constantly

Trying to brainstorm what that decisive moment Jason mentioned was 😅 Maybe an unpopular opinion since it didn't seem like such a big moment but I think one of the points where Jason had something in mind for the story and then he had to take it in a different direction was when no one stopped to talk to the kindred locked in the tanning salon. Just seemed like a classic moment where you'd expect the players to save a seemingly unimportant character who then turns out to be actually important. Also, I just rewatched that scene and that person called out to Richter, Consuela and Mario to let them out, and we've only seen Mario briefly in episode 6, where Rey initially wanted to talk to him when the fights were happening in the pit but things went a different direction there too 😬 The fact that Richter gave them some land didn't seem like it had anything to do with player choices, so they were probably meant to have a turf even if they'd still be under Richter.. My other guess would be Jason didn't expect the coterie + Bree to be so immediately aggressive towards the security guards at the construction site, much less kill two of them so readily. But that happened halfway through the season, not in the beginning, so I'm not so sure. But I'd be really interested to read other people's opinions

God damn it. Now I'm going to have to buy Shadows of New York (I did enjoy Coteries of New York). Would love to see a Thin Blood-centric chronicle in post-fall London or maybe one with the new UK Camarilla capital Edinburgh (Josephine McAdam does a good Scottish accent hint-hint).
Neil I would so love this. Edinburgh is a lot smaller than New York or LA so some locations would need to be included. Edinburgh has a pop ~550k to NYC 2.7m or LAs 3.9m. So would we see less kindred or would it be more tightly packed?

I love the idea of the use of npcs from the games or the books it really is beautiful, I loving this season so much because of that really (and the darkness of this season too) I enjoy seeing other chars in a new story!, this season is absolutely fire! Thanks Jason we love you so much ♥
My theory is, that the "Monster" was originally designed to be a Nagaraja (Flesh eating Vampire) and then changed to a Wight, to give the campaign a bigger focus on humanity and the loss of it...
Fittingly enough, in V5 Nagaraja count as Hecata. So Cat Costello would have helped them hunt down her dangerous Cousin instead of hitting them with a car and allowing the Monster to flee. OMG, it makes all sense now!
Love this. I would really love to see more storyteller advice and campaign preparation. I love this edition of the rules, but it feels so overwhelming to me to start, especially if you're like me and live near big canonical cities like Chicago

As predicted! The Camarilla story will start at the same time as our Anarchs, so this will be just another eye view. I'm really excited for our new crew and cannot wait already for our S3 reunion with the Anarch group and what we're in store for! Something tells me these 2 parallels will have us conflicted with love/hate if our story tellers weaves these stories of NY By Night!
Yay I got my wish for the finale! Interesting that there was a moment he had to go full improv because the players didn't react in the way he expected. I see a lot of people speculating about the guy in the "tanning salon" but if that was it It was done so seamlessly I couldn't tell. I would love Story from El Paso Texas. Because you can do the Sabbat as well as the Anarchs and Camirilla. Because it will combine two cities that have to coexist
Good idea. A San Antonio & Austin story would be cool too. The cities are about 30 min drive a part from each other, AND the book sets the lore up as one city as Anarch and the other as Camerilla. I think it would be interesting to have a faction conflict/war between the two cities of kindred.
@@derekberthold9712 yeah. The reason why I suggested El Paso Texas because of Ciudad Juarez. You can have two cities in two countries. I think it will be different type of story. In the World of Darkness this area has strong Sabbat presence. We had a sprinkling of the sect it was the reason I suggested it so it can shine. There's actually a store in my area that breeches the Masquerade called Tooth and Veil. When I was looking up something the Technocracy there's actually a club name that.
I am always fascinated to hear the creative process from the DM's, or Storyteller's in this case, side, but I can't exactly guess what was the turning point in the season, 'tho I am sure somebody else will get it ^_^ And I will repeat what I saw somebody else mention, it would be very fun to have Mister JC do more guide-stuff content for the WoD channel 👍
I just had an idea for an epiphany! Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan in his normal role as a Blood Splatter Expert and Human Serial Killer Duality gets intrigued by the concept hunting the Undead (Much like the FBI Agent in LA By Night). After doing some recon work leading up to his first encounter with a local Kindred armed to the teeth with the necessary tools he gets the unlikely impression that what this Coterie he is able to observe (Kindred: B. Dave Walters (Baron Victor Temple?), Alexander Ward (Jasper Heartwood?), Jason Carl (Baron Victor Temple's Security Chief Campbell? and Story Narrator) Josephine McAdam (Evangeline aka Eva?), Cynthia Marie (Nelli B.?), Mayanna Berrin (Serif like the Font?), Ghouls: Erika Ishii (Annabelle?), Noura Ibrahim (IB?)) is doing isn't a whole lot different than his MO. He soon comes to the inevitable conclusion that they've been doing the "Good Work" for centuries and this initially unexpected perception shines a particularly bright light on his meager mortality. He starts getting closer to the action he's been able to observe and winds up meeting some Kindred by tailing one of their Ghouls and nearly meeting his mortal death. After an intense scene rife with certain peril in this obviously near fatal encounter he makes a deal with them in order to save his life. Dexter has begrudgingly agreed to have this Coterie accompany him to a few of his own encounters under the cover of darkness as a favor in exchange for them teaching him about the various Bloodlines he has researched for his own reasons. The whole idea of this Coterie being present and able to sate their hunger on the blood of Dexter's fearful victims is an insanely intoxicating prospect. After establishing their trust and Dexter learns enough about the different Bloodlines he starts pondering the idea of seeking out a suitable Sire with their offered help. This is just a basic outline for the Pilot of a series named Dexter Immortal. My utmost thanks to Geek & Sundry, World of Darkness, the Cast of amazing Actors, and Jason Carl for sparking my inspiration. Sincerely an Angry Gamer. Rule of Cool. JC is the GM but he is also the Director of a show. Its a hybrid of a RPG and improvisational theater. I'm sure that JC has his fingers on the scale of his dice rolls too. But, I do this as well in the game I GM. It's one way to give my players an experience that is the most rewarding, the Rule of Cool.
Jason, I know your bosses don't like it, but I would kill to have you run a Top-Layer cake story. For old time VTM metaplot's sake. Well I presume too much, perhaps you yourself would not be interested in such a story. So divorced from the modern v5 design ethos. But I'd say that if there ever comes a time that the good folks at Paradox decide that it is profitable to return to more lore-heavy products, you're the man I want telling that story or version of the story. Vampires are, after all, notoriously big liars and even what we consider "Canon" in some tables is mere hearsay in others.
I know it doesn't make a ton of sense, because Florida is the sunshine state lmao, but I'd die to see a Sarasota/Tampa/Orlando/Miami by night. Would also be a huge opportunity to tie in a lot of thinbloods and their politics/lives since why would most other kindred live in Florida? What a treat getting to pick Jason's brain. @@tearsong8744 I'm pretty new to Vamp but I love the idea of thinbloods having a huge hub there since they have quite a bit of extra sunlight to work with. Swamp coteries, vampire junkies, a mysterious "creature" that's probably kindred or something just absolutely mauling some animals in busch gardens overnight, exploring the lush nightlife of tampa, orlando, and miami and the power struggles that ensue, thinbloods getting into human politics (which really seems satirical with how desantis is destroying our wonderful state's agriculture, culture, economy, schools, etc., Some sort of maybe like a vampire internment camps with threats of the hotbox (I assume kindred hate heat, even if there's no sunlight, and they can't escape without dying immediately) and maybe the coterie we follow can bust the prisoners out or end the camp somehow, kindred that are displaced by hurricanes/weather and natural phenomena absolutely ruining kindred escape plans, idk. I'd love to sit and think of some stuff. Idw bring up D World lmao but there'd have to be something to do with that, maybe Universal 😂

@@pattmahiney There is somewhat of a mechanic for that. We see it in NY by Night when Rey wants to feed on a smoker and in LA by Night when Eva prefers to feed on those taking hallucinogens. Kindred can't take substances themselves but they can still enjoy them by feeding on those who can.

There are actually three games set in New York. Vtm redemption plays there too and coteries did some references to it in both games. Ceterum censeo redemption needs a remaster or sequel (at least in spirit).
The thing with this game and Shadows taking place at the same time is that Shadows takes place over the corse of a week while this is over several weeks. Only way it lines up is if this is right after Shadows.
Maybe they're gonna take some liberties to stretch out the timeframe of what happened during Shadows of NY, because from what I remember the in-game duration of the events isn't really that important. Either way, season 1 has got to take place basically when Shadows starts as well because Richter tells everyone during the first night that people are just finding out Callihan is dead, and that's basically what drives Julia's plot during the game (if you take out the first part where she gets embraced).
I m preping a campaign with my friends that happens in İstanbul. Its their first frp and my first storytelling experience. I was thinking about a story line but I know things never goes as u thought they will so I want to see what will they do. What will they be interested with. My biggest fear is not knowing what to do as a storyteller and make things doll. I'm thinking of few plottwists and stuff and Jason Carl's poxqint of view is very helpful for me. If there is anyone who can give me few tips I m more than glad to listen. I m a perfectionist and I want my group to love this game (specially Vampire The Masquerade)
@Paul Gauthier I appreciate these golden advices, thanks a lot. I have a question though. My players doesnt have many contacts or touchstones from kindered world. Should I create scenes that affect their human contacts? They are newly embraced and have no idea how the kindred world works. I m aiming to create some contacts through out of the story. So should I wait for it to build up or do you advice going for their human contacts.
Now that they've done both coasts next they could hit the heart land. I set my Vampire The Requiem game in Memphis. And also did some Old World of Darkness games there. Memphis by Night may not be a bad idea.

Dave Walters (Baron Victor Temple?), Alexander Ward (Jasper Heartwood?), Jason Carl (Baron Victor Temple's Security Chief Campbell? and Story Narrator) Josephine McAdam (Evangeline aka Eva?), Cynthia Marie (Nelli B.?), Mayanna Berrin (Serif like the Font?), Ghouls: Erika Ishii (Annabelle?), Noura Ibrahim (IB?)) is doing isn't a whole lot different than his MO. He soon comes to the inevitable conclusion that they've been doing the "Good Work" for centuries and this initially unexpected perception shines a particularly bright light on his meager mortality. He starts getting closer to the action he's been able to observe and winds up meeting some Kindred by tailing one of their Ghouls and nearly meeting his mortal death. After an intense scene rife with certain peril in this obviously near fatal encounter he makes a deal with them in order to save his life. Dexter has begrudgingly agreed to have this Coterie accompany him to a few of his own encounters under the cover of darkness as a favor in exchange for them teaching him about the various Bloodlines he has researched for his own reasons. The whole idea of this Coterie being present and able to sate their hunger on the blood of Dexter's fearful victims is an insanely intoxicating prospect. After establishing their trust and Dexter learns enough about the different Bloodlines he starts pondering the idea of seeking out a suitable Sire with their offered help. This is just a basic outline for the Pilot of a series named Dexter Immortal. The rule that Dominate can't draw forth true information seems to have gone by the wayside.
Rule of Cool. JC is the GM but he is also the Director of a show. Its a hybrid of a RPG and improvisational theater. I'm sure that JC has his fingers on the scale of his dice rolls too. But, I do this as well in the game I GM. It's one way to give my players an experience that is the most rewarding, the Rule of Cool.

Well I presume too much, perhaps you yourself would not be interested in such a story. So divorced from the modern v5 design ethos. But I'd say that if there ever comes a time that the good folks at Paradox decide that it is profitable to return to more lore-heavy products, you're the man I want telling that story or version of the story.
Vampires are, after all, notoriously big liars and even what we consider "Canon" in some tables is mere hearsay in others.

I know it doesn't make a ton of sense, because Florida is the sunshine state lmao, but I'd die to see a Sarasota/Tampa/Orlando/Miami by night. Would also be a huge opportunity to tie in a lot of thinbloods and their politics/lives since why would most other kindred live in Florida?

@@tearsong8744 I'm pretty new to Vamp but I love the idea of thinbloods having a huge hub there since they have quite a bit of extra sunlight to work with. Swamp coteries, vampire junkies, a mysterious "creature" that's probably kindred or something just absolutely mauling some animals in busch gardens overnight, exploring the lush nightlife of tampa, orlando, and miami and the power struggles that ensue, thinbloods getting into human politics (which really seems satirical with how desantis is destroying our wonderful state's agriculture, culture, economy, schools, etc., Some sort of maybe like a vampire internment camps with threats of the hotbox (I assume kindred hate heat, even if there's no sunlight, and they can't escape without dying immediately) and maybe the coterie we follow can bust the prisoners out or end the camp somehow, kindred that are displaced by hurricanes/weather and natural phenomena absolutely ruining kindred escape plans, idk. I'd love to sit and think of some stuff. Idw bring up D World lmao but there'd have to be something to do with that, maybe Universal 😂

@@pattmahiney There is somewhat of a mechanic for that. We see it in NY by Night when Rey wants to feed on a smoker and in LA by Night when Eva prefers to feed on those taking hallucinogens. Kindred can't take substances themselves but they can still enjoy them by feeding on those who can.

There are actually three games set in New York. Vtm redemption plays there too and coteries did some references to it in both games.
Ceterum censeo redemption needs a remaster or sequel (at least in spirit).
The thing with this game and Shadows taking place at the same time is that Shadows takes place over the corse of a week while this is over several weeks. Only way it lines up is if this is right after Shadows.
Maybe they're gonna take some liberties to stretch out the timeframe of what happened during Shadows of NY, because from what I remember the in-game duration of the events isn't really that important. Either way, season 1 has got to take place basically when Shadows starts as well because Richter tells everyone during the first night that people are just finding out Callihan is dead, and that's basically what drives Julia's plot during the game (if you take out the first part where she gets embraced).

I m preping a campaign with my friends that happens in İstanbul. Its their first frp and my first storytelling experience. I was thinking about a story line but I know things never goes as u thought they will so I want to see what will they do. What will they be interested with. My biggest fear is not knowing what to do as a storyteller and make things doll. I'm thinking of few plottwists and stuff and Jason Carl's poxqint of view is very helpful for me. If there is anyone who can give me few tips I m more than glad to listen. I m a perfectionist and I want my group to love this game (specially Vampire The Masquerade)

Should I create scenes that affect their human contacts? They are newly embraced and have no idea how the kindred world works. I m aiming to create some contacts through out of the story. So should I wait for it to build up or do you advice going for their human contacts.
