She came to Australia in 1999 and it's been fairly good since. Her mother died when she was 12 and her father is gone too. Only one sister and she's married so her husband can look after her. Maybe i just got lucky

First, foreigners CAN own a car/motorbike in Thailand. Secondly, once she starts asking for money - run. Even if it's 50 baht. Run.
You can't if you can't provide address certificate from immigration which needed to buy motorbike and tourists mostly can't provide it.
