I am currently deciding if i am too aged to apply to the school in Steubenville, now that my children are grown. Plenty pray for the will of God to guide me as I am also feeling called away from technical and dont know if the two things can be reconciled. Living in a Catholic community would be life changing for me. It would literally save my life. I pray daily for us all, using the 7 sorrow rosary, most days. God bless your ministry Father Mike and Dr Hahn.
I took a couple online classes at Franciscan this Fall and LOVED them! It was so refreshing to go to a solid Catholic college. What a noticable change from the secular colleges I attended in my early 20s, some 20 years ago. My professors were great! There were lots of middle aged and older people in the classes so I felt right at home. I learned so much and was really challenging to go deeper into the Faith. It was a truly amazing experience! I encouraged you, if you are feeling called to attend Franciscan, do it!
@countrymamablues That's an amazing testimony! The goal would be to live near campus and attend in person. It's very daunting and I am right now contemplating applying. No joke, it would save my life. Perhaps you could offer up a prayer for me? All of my praying people are on the other side of the veil. I'm alone here, now. It makes all this do much harder. God bless you for your kind heart!!
I don't know if any of this addresses your reticence regarding age, but let me offer this. At the age of 39+, I went back to school to get my masters in guidance and counseling. On the evening of my registration for the first classes, I looked around to see all of the young people ambling about,, each one a full generation behind me. I simply felt old and out of place, not feeling as if I belonged at all. I hadn't competed in the academic arena in quite some time, and I wondered if I still had the "right stuff" necessary to keep up with young and quick minds operating at their prime. I needn't have worried. I completed my master's in roughly five years, taking one or two evening classes a semester, all the while working full time. I quickly discovered that my education and experience, like that of many of the other older students in my program, were superior to that of the young pups. Competing successfully was no issue at all. I'm 73 now, and if there were a college or university nearby, I might find myself in a classroom again, studying some neglected subject I'd long been interested in but never pursued. Looking from the outside, Franciscan U. at Steubenville seems like a great and faithful Catholic university. If age is the major thing holding you back, I'd say go for it! It might represent a significant risk, but nothing great is ever achieved by playing it safe. God bless you abundantly, whatever you decide.
Two of the greatest Catholic public thinkers and worthy heirs to Venerable Bishop Sheen. How I love seeing these servants of our Lord in conversation. God bless them, as well as everyone reading this.
I listen to catholic apologists alllll the time and am always delighted to hear an expanded point of view - new way of understanding ❤ I'm so excited about the word of God
Scot Hahn easily talks twice as much as his guest and I’m here for it. Not one word was too many. I teared up at the idea of praying the complaining psalms and then thinking of Mary accepting not just John but the executioners and me as her child. I can never be grateful enough.
Hmmm. this is my Christmas present just a few days late!!! Two Roman Catholics that I deeply respect for their devotion to God and their dedication to the prosperity of the Church. If Fr. Schmitz and Dr. Hahn were alive at the time of Shakespeare I'm sure Shakespeare would have cast them in his each and every play! Moreover, their performance would have inspired Shakespeare to write another couple of hundreds of plays!!!! Thank you, both of you! HC-JAIPUR (05/Jan/2024) .
I have listened twice because this really is something to always remember. God is in control. We must pray faithfully so there is little time for fear. Pray as long as it is takes to get God's answer.✝️🙏❤️
Oh man, this is a great talk! Takes me back to my childhood growing up as an Army brat and in my adulthood, relocating multiple times due to career/job changes: "This is not home, but you're going to live there like it is...this is where I'm going to plant you and where you need to grow..."
Praise be to God, for enlightening these two representatives of our beloved Lord, to share their wonderful wisdom acquired, a Gift from our Lord Jesus.
We learn so much from both of these important Catholics. They have different perspectives and make us think deeply about God’s will for our lives. Thank you for sharing this conversation!
As a refugee, this book's highlights connect me to God's history of salvation for humanity-great work ministries from Dr. Hahn and Fr. Schmitz. God bless!
When I listened to Hahn’s book launch lecture, I automatically thought of Fr. Schmitz’s sermon series. Both spoke to me about living my Christian life here and now. It put the current political and ecclesiastical situations in perspective for me. I greatly appreciate both of these men!
I am watching and listening from Tucson, Arizona. Thank you for both of your miniseries! The way in which the two of you put reality of the Holy Scriptures in perspective for a 63 year old Catholic Christian is truly a blessing sent from our Almighty Lord and saviour Cristo, Amen!
Dr. Hahn, love your books! Fr. Mike, I am working my way through "Pocket Guide to the Sacrament of Reconciliation". It maybe took 60 years for me to have a new view of this struggle, but through this book I now have more tools to help me build a new trust in the sacrament. May God bless all of us in exile.
2 Absolute icons of faith in this modern era of the church. (I would like to add #3 in Bishop Barron) Thank you so much!!!😇🙏 As in the present moment, this past weekend has brought so much clarity to such a long personal journey. EXILE ( absene makes the heart grow fonder) and when we arise from those ashes how much more we realise the love of God, His church and the Glory of ultimately the whole of the words that come to life in the Apostles creed. May God continue to bless you JMJ Pray for us🙏🙏🙏
Our Lady of Victory is one of my favorite titles of Our lady. And I love Our Lady of Sorrow too. My husband was born on her feast day. I've been asking Mama to convert him. I was Born on Flag day here in the USA. I always found it interesting that we celebrate our Flag on the 14th day of the month dedicated to the Sacred Heart. I like to think it's because he has our Country close to him. I'm grateful he hasn't given up on us yet. His mercy baffles me sometimes. But I am also so grateful for it.
I am from South Africa thank you for so much knowledge which I am so grateful for being a Catholic MY LORD AND MY GOD AND MOTHER MARY FOR BEING IN MY LIFE THANK YOU BOTH FOR SHARING GOD BLESS YOU FOREVER LOVE YOU BOTH
Why do people find the historical books difficult? It is the historical books that I resonate to the most. If not for them I would have a very difficult time reading the Bible. They bring structure, context, and tangibility to the scripture.
Merry Christmas Dr. Hahn and Father Mike! Thank you for those profound words of wisdoms and assurance. I’m very grateful to have access such quality Catholic content. If we could all live our lives in this way, our world would be so different.
I am doing the Bible in a Year, and the Old Testament is so hard for me to get into, and I would have dropped it without Fr. Mike's summaries. Dr Hahn what you said about most people reading the New Testament because the Old Testament is hard for us made me feel like I can get through it and absorb what I can. Jeff Cavins made a comment that people need to read the Bible more than once...maybe the next reading won't be as hard. 😅
Dr Hahn hitting it out of the park about the old and the new as well as touching on a point that I’ve been marinating on since I fell in love with the Old Testament. That point is that the New Testament is almost unintelligible without the Old Testament. Dare I say… almost nonsensical and scattered. You NEED the Old Testament
As if it weren't enough to be sitting among two men of great faith, and gentle in the way of speaking God's truth, it is though I have been plopped in the middle of a candy shoppe, in a veritable Heaven, hearing the Word, while savoring a Milky Way bar! This discussion causes me to wonder, if we as humans, have been exiled from our beginnings in Heaven, to earth, to carnality, where our task is to "make it work", as a charge by The Father. Perhaps, God sets us here on earth, challenging us to identify Him in ALL good gifts [of our surroundings] of His creation. What amazing wonders and treasures we might discover (graces), even amid the sufferings afforded us, simply by exile from Him and from Heaven. "Thy Kingdom come."
“Long for that age…” just watched an episode of “leave it to beaver” and Beaver was getting ready to play an Angel in the Christmas play… at public school. Those days were when I was little.
They won't. This is not that conversation. This is a conversation about strengthening our faith. Your question is about how Christians go to war. How faithful Catholics need to fight modernist heresy's
I love the words of ST. Peter, in 2nd St.Peter chapter 2: verse 2. And many shall follow their riotousnesses, through who the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. 3. And through covetousness SHALL THEY WITH FEIGNED WORDS MAKE MERCHANDISE OF YOU. Maybe take some time to think on this?
I don't think God our father puts us into 'bad' situation, but other people or our own foolish choices gets us there but He is there to protect and pick us up, and save us even if it means finding Heaven at that moment.
Some Catholic don’t have any Grandchildren, because one Child was taken away from us at age 24, no not to drugs… due to something he was born with and the other child only 13 months age difference can cope without his brothers loss. Husband becomes an alcoholic loses his mind. I am standing due to my faith. No I face that truth everyday. So having perfect families and doing good doesn’t always work perfectly, for some. My growth is at the Cross, with the Apostle John and Our Blessed Mother Mary. I have to have find some joy in my Sorrow.
Thank you for this discussion you touch on how are am feeling. I feel more ĺike I am living in exile since the publication of Fiducia supplicans. I feel the Church is nolonger interested in walking the way of holiness but is intent on accommodating itself to the world and its ways. Such that the salvation of souls is nolonger the mission of the Church thus the hope of reaching our eternal homeland is abandoned. How will we be able to walk the way of holiness when our priests are now mandated to bless sin? For myself, I know how to walk the way of holiness, but what of those who do not know how to walk the way of holness and the trajectory of deviation from the true path grows greater and greater, is more and more leading to Hell rather than Heaven? I pray for the Church and the salvation of souls...🙏🙏🙏
Wide and broad is the way to hell and many are on that path, but straight and narrow is the way to heaven, and few are on that path. Don’t focus on what’s going on around us, focus on staying on the narrow path. Continue speaking and teaching truth while you are on the way, but stay on the path. Don’t let even those “in charge” lead you from the right path. At the end of the journey, you will win the reward and reach the correct destination.
We know God keeps his promises, we forget our part of the covenant, sanctity is sanity, to be 'exules filii et filiae Hevae' makes sense when the world may think it is foolish to be a saint. How many likes for a soul 'dolorosa et lacrimosa' ?
I tend to feel like I'm living their chosen schizophrenia, you mean, your talking about their previous exile, but you mean I think you've built these places before,
We often forget the dialectic belongs to Hegel (not Marx, who ... exploited it, and well, at that). And we ourselves are so binary. Yet our Creator comes to us as a Triune entity. ... i've spent a lot of time asking if the binary nature we seem stuck in (cf oh... GENDER... for one... ) has been part of our problem.
Are you kidding? How can you ignore what is going on in the Vatican? Are you even aware? Selling books? What about the heresy? Denial is a street which bypasses truth, it certainly was not a street which the apostles used, no they led by St. Peter confronted the essence of hypocrisy. In Acts 5:29 ST. Peter stood up to the hypocrisy Saying we ought to obey God rather then men, verses 30. The God of our fathers hath raised up Jesus, whom you put to death, hanging him on a tree. Certainly Jesus did nail enmity to the tree, Ephesians 2:16 reacting or forgetting the words of the Our Father, “ Forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.” Is how we respond, not in anxiousness but in sorrow. Sadly the train has not suddenly left the track! The tracks were falling apart before Vatican two, the continuation of denial that this present darkness, which has been apparent from the first signs of heresy back in the 1960’s, those unacceptable lies which have paved the way to this diabolical mess,we now find ourselves in, should have been warning signs. The very fact that many have put their heads in the sand, and continue to avoid the insurmountable evidence of the proof of this disaster, is startling to say the least! Roll the tape back and take a good look at the sight of the disaster, please quit ignoring the facts. Speaking about a book, which is spot on, and focuses on the truth, of how and why the Catholic Church is off the rails, please read “ They Have Uncrowned Him.” By Arch Bishop Marcel Lefebvre.
The oft repeated claim by Catholic apologists is that the magisterium safeguards the truth and protects against confusion, chaos and division. The new FS document/new teaching on gay blessings is a prime example of why that claim does not hold water. As a conservative Protestant I could never in good conscience join the Catholic church.
sadly i will no longer be watching your channel or anyone else's since YT has started their ad campaign holding me hostage anywhere from 3 minutes to a ridiculous 30 minutes. I enjoyed your content but this is goodbye.
Could you two please speak plainly? Why speak in veiled language, i e. exile? Why can't you say: “Pope Francis, Cardinal Fernandez & all in agreement w blessing homosexual couples are false prophets.” God's teaching authority on earth CAN get it wrong in matters of faith and morals AND it doesn't make our mater et magistra any less One, Holy, Catholic or Apostolic. Why? These actions and statements aren't infallible ordinarily or extraordinarily. Our Church family history is filled with examples; Our first pope got it wrong concerning meat sacrificed to idols & was corrected at the so called council of Jerusalem. I'm also thinking of Honorious w monothelitism. The Aryan bishops & popes who gave it tacit approval. Alexander VI's public fornication and the bishops in attendance who blessed his unions. All the bishops of England save Fisher who signed the Oath of Succession, and, in more modern times, the German and Austrian bishops who, before Hitler’s rise to power, had condemned national facism and did not allow admittance to Holy Communion - only to change course and literally bless the Nazis. Cardinal Fernandez is engaging in classic casuistry where you build an entire false morality around an isolated case. He is cut from the same cloth as the “dissenters”; McCormick, O'Brien, and all the infamous dissenters who would say the Catholic teaching in one paragraph, then abortion is OK in the next. US Bishops regularly blessed these dissenters as they chaired theology depts at Loyola and other Catholic universities. Fiducia Supplicans doesn't cite scripture or the catechism or any document saying homosexual actions are intrinsically disordered. It is completely engaged in normalizing homosexual actions. I've heard the confessions of & ministered to those suffering w SSA for over 2 decades. Those suffering from SSA are appalled by this face value blessing of the gay lifestyle. If this truly was a declaration on the development of pastoral theology, it would speak the truth in love. Dr. Hahn & Fr. Schmitz, speak plainly. Call a spade a spade. Name the false prophets and their teachings. You've enjoyed teaching in the good times, can you not teach the true faith during the unpopular times? Perhaps it was for a time like this that you have been prepared. Many cannot read between the lines of what you are saying here. This is no time to hide behind OT typology.
Thank you for this awesome conversation. God Bless!

Yeah but people do the dumbest things, we'll never know, I mean, look at it,
The oft repeated claim by Catholic apologists is that the magisterium safeguards the truth and protects against confusion, chaos and division.
It's a shame that episodes ae supposed to offer guests to have something to say-Dr. Hahn just does all of the talking.
Don't ever trust anyone who has a tattoo.
Some of us have repented afterwards.
@@aWitness33 Still can't ever be trusted. Oh, and lasers can't ever take away the stupid.
@@billyhw5492 Awfully charitable of you. Good thing God is more forgiving. Though, I do NOT promote that anyine get them either anymore.
Why
Why?
Could you two please speak plainly? Why speak in veiled language, i e. exile? Why can't you say: “Pope Francis, Cardinal Fernandez & all in agreement w blessing homosexual couples are false prophets.”
God's teaching authority on earth CAN get it wrong in matters of faith and morals AND it doesn't make our mater et magistra any less One, Holy, Catholic or Apostolic.
Finally, the Church is supporting valid gay relationships. The future is bright ❤
