I have been Catholic since birth but I haven't heard this clear explanation about the Eucharist. Scott Hahn and other Protestant converts like him are the modern day heroes of Catholic church.
Oh my goodness! Just in case you haven't heard of these talks by Scott Hahn, I will tell you. He has so many talks , but two that are amazing are The Lamb's Supper, and, The Fourth Cup. Try to find them on RUclips.
@@row1landr thanks for the suggestion. I just created a playlist of those should be wonderful. Also looking forward to watching this interview here ruclips.net/video/W84qXA6WwZQ/видео.html
Jesus is himself, the church builder. Unless Jesus built it, why bother?. And There can be only one church, because there is only one Jesus, one sacrifice for the remission of sins, and one Father who is the Father of us all, and the creator of Heaven and Earth and all that in them is. Trust God number one, and everything else will work out for you.
I thank God for giving me the covid. I had to stay home and watch you. You have taught me more in this hour than in all my 81 years as a Catholic. Scott my heart is on fire. God bless you.
Thank you Dr Hahn For helping me see clearer My wife and I getting ready for RCIA in 20 minutes With your videos we understand the church and the word much better. God bless you brother and your wife 🙏🏽
Like your friend Chris and his wife, my wife and I just yesterday went to confession after decades away, and now this Sunday morning are headed to mass to receive the Holy Eucharist in sanctified grace for the first time in our marriage. We are so grateful. Your words and your mission have been our companion through our conversion. Your arrow hit its target. Thank you. Thank you. Glory be to our Lord and our God Jesus Christ. ❤️

In the bible JESUS tells them to..."Come out of her! THE meaning is the"the "whore of Babalon"
'converts' make the best Catholic witnesses---- you have taken a CLOSE look---- discovered----- internalized---- and are 'enthusiastically on fire' --to share. Thank you God for coming to us -----showing us the REAL GOODS-----
Dr Scott everytime you preach on what the Holy Spirit has revealed to you about Holy Mass & the Eucharist with such fervour & love you make my brains explode too in the best possible way ❤ Thankyou!
Recent convert, preacher's kid and this was the greatest argument in support of transubstantiation for me. Praying the Holy Spirit will open my father's eyes and heart to the truth.
I wish there had been more takeaways from such a long presentation. I really want to be able to recognize scripture in every word of the mass and see step-by-step how it relates to the Passover, etc. Was hoping this presentation would give more scripture and less personal testimony (because come on, everyone who has heard anything by Hahn knows his story).
Pity PROTESTants who resist truth because of the heretical teaching of Luther and the thousands of splintered de CRS that developed afterward. Converts to Catholicism, particularly former ministers such as Hahn, Ta UN lor Marshall and many others who have studied Scripture and Catholicism and recognize it as the one true Church instituted by Christ for the Salvatore all souls.
Thank you Dr Scott Hahn for loving Jesus and utilizing that gift of eloquent preaching with a God-given wisdom. God bless you and your work, wife Kimberly and priests sons.
Scott Hahn, your burning heart for the church, tradition and scripture is truly humbling. I have seen videos of yourself from 8 years ago, and this video 2 years ago. In a span of 6 years you have aged at an accelerated speed. Dr. Hahn I hope you aren't sick or enduring trials. I am praying for you, Dr. Hahn. I hope you are well.
Today, as I attend the Mass, and singing “Lamb of God”, Revelations really sounded on mind. It was so beautiful. Thank You for this knowledge. I will share it also in my family. ❤
@@loveisaiah622 actually it's the Bible that shows us what Truth is. notice: 1 - Jesus Christ IS Truth - John 14:6 2 - Thy Word IS Truth - John 17:17 3 - Thy Commandments ARE Truth - Psalm 119:142,151 so if your 'church' doesn't uphold and follow His Word and His Ten Commandments, then it's obviously not His church - see 1 Tim 3:15 this is elementary knowledge and reasoning my friend. please try to keep up or you'll remain lost all your life.
@tony you have made 0 arguments as to how the church does not uphold truth. You'll probably respond to this with some verse that you interpret differently than the Catholic Church and claim this is proof we do not hold the truth. It's just a game of "I'm right, you're wrong." You have no way of infallibly defining how sacred scripture should be interpreted. In fact, you don't even have a way of definitively proving what "scripture" is! Where exactly do you find a list of all books that aught to be in the Bible? It's not mentioned anywhere in scripture. Without a divinely appointed teaching office, you have 0 clue what books are or aren't inspired
Powerful! Powerful! Powerful! Glory to God in the Highest! I too have always had a longing for the sacred Eucharist! I too was once anti-Catholic... a former devote Jehovah's Witness (if you can believe it!) The calling of the Eucharist and longing to be closer with our most beautiful Lord Christ Jesus is so powerful. Dr. Hahn you did such an EXECELLANT explanation in this video! Thank you so much for your insight and teaching! The Lord is truly speaking though you ! Thank you!
And glory to man who must complete the second part of his salvation by his own righteous works. If the death of Christ alone cannot save, then it cannot save at all. If man's will and good works completes salvation, then salvation is ultimately dependent on man and not Christ. Study the Scriptures. Start with the book of John and read carefully.
@@nberrios777 Pure ignorance on your behalf. Christ's death was for the forgiveness of sins - for the forgiveness of Origional sin only through babtisim and for actual sin committed after Baptisim through Confession to the Priest. Faith without works is dead faith
Sadly, PROTESTants believe that just by professing belief in God is sufficient. Christ st instituted the Sacraments which help to keep us focused on avoiding sin, repenting if we fall into sin and to be able to receive the grace from the Holy Eucharist. Lither advised, “din boldly.”
This has been a moment I was seeking for, most times we Catholics who never get chanced for such teachings, can't tell the value we have I thank you Dr Scott for your words, indeed I have realized the hurt feelings I get whenever I attend Sunday Mass and really miss out that most important part of it
What a blessing! You what a blessing you’re helping me why even want to go to the RCI a program to become a Catholic thank you so much I really appreciate it and I can appreciate the mess because I was a little taken back from in the beginning but now it looks such a such a beautiful it’s a beautiful thing to experience I can’t wait to go thank you again God bless you
Amazing teching!!!God bless dr Scot Hahn and Chatolic church and all protestants too so they may be able to crush preejudgments and pride and they may discover all thruth.
Thank you so much doctor for all your sharings. I'm watching and listening here in Cyprus where St. Lazarus took refuge after he was resurrected by our Saviour Jesus Christ for fear of the Romans and Pharisees.
If ya'll liked this video, make sure and watch Scotts "the Fourth Cup". Never get tired of hearing this explained, though I can never seem to convey it to others. I always fall back on "find Scott Hahn's The Fourth Cup".

Just saw Church and a nation in crisis video. Thank you. I like when you are real and not just intellectual. As I watched I noticed a really relaxed, Scott. Then as the time passed you got a bit like before Covid. I think Covid helped you relax a bit and speak more from your heart and less from your huge wonderful intellect. I LOVE YOUR HEART SCOTT. Keep it showing! GOD BLESS YOU!
You are our Modern St. Paul, the Apostle for the Gentiles, in the O. T..Today, in the New Testament of these modern days You teach so eloquently. Praise God for Your Conversion! You Convert many Cradled Catholic Christians! Praying for You, with You & Your beautiful Family!
Godbless you and your family brother Scott. Wow! Always listening to you. Your testimonies, sharings and wisdom brother. Thank God for people like you, Mother Angelica, Bishop Sheen, Father Mitch, huuu everybody in EWTN is awe-inspiring. Love you all and constantly praying for us all.
I first heard you on a cd explaning the 4 marks of the church. What a magnificent talk you did. This talk was in a class by itself. Thank GOD we have you to put all Catholic teacherings in perspective.
I could not thank you enough, Dr. Scott Hahn. I have been researching how the Last Supper, Calvary, and the Mass are connected. You have clearly explained everything! Thank you again!!!
There was no sacrifice at the Last Supper. There was no “blood, which is poured out for you,” LUKE 22:20. It is when Jesus drew his last breath which ushered in the New Covenant. “IT IS FINISHED.” There is nothing more to do. Jesus never said to build altars and tabernacles and re-offer, re-represent him in a ritual No apostle ever mentioned a mass, or eucharist. No apostle ever said a mass, or told anyone they would be eating His flesh and drinking His flesh. Jesus words were SPIRITUAL, not literal. He wasn’t a vine, was He? He wasn’t a door, was He? He wasn’t a light, was He? He said those who came to him and received him would never hunger or thirst again, but you eat and drink every day, don’t you. The mass and eucharist are lies out of the pit of hell. Look up the teaching of Dr. Andrew Farley and find out what you have been missing.
I tell protestants and anti catholic’s the Lord’s Supper and Calvary are one and the same Sacrifice. 1Peter4:12-15,we share in Christ’s suffering’s through his mystical body on Earth the holy Catholic Church. Praise Jesus and Mary always!!!

Dr Scott Hahn you really make us fall in love with the Bible. I have a question, why wasn't Joseph father of Jesus present at the Passion of Christ? Is there any mention of him at all during the most trying phase of his son Jesus? Please enlighten us in another talk. I spend almost an entire day listening to you with my mobile hitched to my arm as I go about my work. Sending you and your family our divine love from India 🙏
Dr. Scoot Hahn you are a gift to Roman Catholic Church Praise The Lord. You're brlliant in preaching, wisdom to strengthten our catholic faith. May the Lord Jesus christ bless and protect you and your whole family from any harm to continue this ministry for the salvation of the whole world. I wander why all the protestant denomination are attacking the cstholic church founded by Jesus Christ at Jerusalem in 33 AD.
I have no idea why but this gave me a crazy idea that god’s word is like musical genres. Scripture is one of those genres, music, worship, preaching and teaching, and indeed the actual food in our veins is the word when we consume it. New convert by the way, probably 1000 saints have already recognized this but I just thought of it.
I am so happy to find this channel and be blessed to have you Dr. Scott Hahn. I know that Holly Spirit has brought me here to deepen and enrich my faith particularly on the Eucharist. I have been listening to your channel and being subscribed to your St. Paul Center website. Lord has chosen you as one of the most invaluable teolog of this post modern time. Reading and listening to your preaching is burning my heart. I have learned a lot from you and your beloved wife Kimberly how to raise catholic children and build a catholic family. My offer stands, I would certainly want to debate Scott over a number of statements he makes; e.g. How can we encounter the real Christ to remind us of Christ? This is just one of the so many issues I would be delighted to discuss with Scott.
Not sure you're a native-speaker of English, but your question actually makes no sense linguistically. Maybe it means something in your head, but not in your sentence.
@@FigaroHey I know deep theology is not for everyone. Otherwise, this is so basic, if the bread is Christ Himself it needs not remind us of Him. e.g. you keep a souvenir to remind you of place you visited, but the actual place of visit cannot be the souvenir at the same time. I hope this helps somewhat helps.
Dr. Hahn have you ever been planning to exchange vow to your wife Mrs. Kimberley in a Roman Catholic church wedding. We'de love to see you in a Sacrament of Matrimony celebration. How's that? Excuse my grammar. I'm not that fluent in english. From the Philippines..luv u
They don't have to. When two baptized Christans are married, the church recognizes it as valid. So if they convert, at most the priest can give them a blessing like he blesses every married couple. As Catholics their Christian marriage is automatically a sacrament. And marriage is not a sacrament we can repeat unless one spouse dies. They are already sacramentally married Catholics.
Please, answer me, im writting from Belgium.. i m a evangelic calvinist and how can u explain the fact that the Church as limited the Scriptures only for the clericals... and not the People ?? Thanks
Hi Dr. Scott Hahn. I refer to what Saint Paul said . He said we do not preach with eloquence. He said we come to tell you the good news in fear , trembling, and weakness.
Mary the wife of Clopas, being at the foot of the cross, watching what seemed like a failure gives us a hint why the risen Christ would appear to Clopas I think so anyway..
18MAR2024. God bless us. Amen. To start reading the Bible could be done with Father Mike Smitch. He, through Ascension, has a podcast "Bible in a Year"
Mr Hahn is funny! wondering what it would have been like if Jesus had dropped in on Caiaphas and pantius pilot after rising from the dead! "I'm back!" LOL
The Church Fathers DID NOT ALL preach Transubstantiation. Some preached the symbolic and metaphoric nature of it: “Elsewhere the Lord, in the Gospel according to John, brought this out by symbols, when He said: ‘Eat ye my flesh, and drink my blood,’ describing distinctly by metaphor the drinkable properties of faith and the promise, (Clement of Alexandria, 150-215 AD, The Instructor, 1:6) “And He blessed the wine, saying, ‘Take, drink: this is my blood’ - the blood of the vine. He figuratively calls the Word ‘shed for many, for the remission of sins’ - the holy stream of gladness.’” (Clement of Alexandria, 150-215 AD, The Instructor, 2:2) “…nor the bread by which he represents his own proper body, thus requiring in his very sacraments the ‘beggarly elements’ of the Creator,” (Tertullian, 155-220 AD, Against Marcion, 1:14). “For again, He gave Himself the symbols of His divine dispensation to His disciples, when He bade them make the likeness of His own Body… to give them bread to use as the symbol of His Body,” (Eusebius, 263-339 AD, Demonstratio Evangelica, 8:1)
In book I, chapter six of his Paedagogus (The Instructor of Children), St. Clement affirms that the Eucharist is both symbolic and the Real Presence, i.e., the body and blood, soul, and divinity of Jesus Christ. First, he discusses its symbolic value: Elsewhere the Lord, in the Gospel according to John, brought this out by symbols, when he said: Eat my flesh, and drink my blood; John 6:34 describing distinctly by metaphor the drinkable properties of faith and the promise, by means of which the Church, like a human being consisting of many members, is refreshed and grows, is welded together and compacted of both - of faith, which is the body, and of hope, which is the soul; as also the Lord of flesh and blood. Later in the same chapter, he affirms the Real Presence: Eat my flesh, he says, and drink my blood (John 6:53-5). Such is the suitable food which the Lord ministers, and he offers his flesh and pours forth his blood, and nothing is wanting for the children’s growth. O, amazing mystery! We are enjoined to cast off the old and carnal corruption, as also the old nutriment, receiving in exchange another new regimen, that of Christ, receiving him if we can, to hide him within; and that, enshrining the Savior in our souls, we may correct the affections of our flesh. If the Eucharist were purely a symbol, it wouldn’t be an “amazing mystery.” The Real Presence is further affirmed by St. Clement’s assertion that we hide Christ within us in receiving the Eucharist, “enshrining the Savior in our souls.” This can’t happen if the Eucharist were merely bread and wine and thus only a symbol of his body and blood.
If God himself understands our separated brethren how much more us who knows the full message of God. We should all treat them with pity and compassion. Look at how God transformed many of you into effective apologists and defenders in the end Scott. How I pray that all protestants come into full communion with our Catholic faith. Doesn't matter if they hold on to a different name, may they still be Baptist, Adventist, etc but all agreeing with the pope. Having the eucharist celebrated in their churches. That would be awesome. Wow! Like a pastor hearing mass by a priest then after the mass he takes over and explains the priest's homily further just like a fusion of "protestant" and Catholic combined. That's possible right.
Not all the church fathers believed in the real presence . John six Jesus said the words that I speak to you they are spirit and life the flesh profits nothing read your Bibl e god bless you
Please Dr. Hahn slow it down so people can get the wisdom of what you are saying. You do understand this very well and so you tend to throw everything out all at once. I do understand it already but the speed of the explanation may be too fast for some to grasp. Maybe you can do the lessons in parts, and have tune into it bit by bit. It also becomes quite lengthy for one sitting. Just my stupid advice 🤪.
Consider how the 3 miracles of Christ in John 6 can reveal how the bread and wine can become His body and blood. Why trust Him that his flesh is true food and his blood is true drink? Why trust him that we have to eat and drink to be raised in the end? Why trust Him that he can make that available today? Because! Look at those 3 miracles he performed in front of the eyes of all those people!
well since sacred scripture ended in the 1st century, and the eucharist was not fully practiced until the 12th century or later, we do indeed have a problem, don't we scott?
Is there some resource where Scott Hahn goes step by step through the Mass showing where each part is scriptural? That's what the title seemed to promise, but I've heard these stories before and would really like a close-reading Bible study of the MASS and not so much reminiscences and preaching about politics. I know he's American and they relate everything to their political situation, but it's not really about the scripture or the Mass. Interesting, but ad I say, the same stories are told many times online, very familiar by now, and scripture and the Mass would be more edifying at this point.
hi Anthony Higgins, please read 1Peter4:11-15. And Colossians 24. Yes,I totally agree Jesus died once for sin but realise that Jesus still suffers through his mystical body on earth the ONE HOLY CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH founded on the infallible Rock of Peter two millennia ago! Jesus’s one Sacrifice is still on going! God bless you as you come to see the true beauty of Catholicism which is everyone’s true home. Praise Jesus and Mary always!!!
There is not one single place in the book of Revelation where Christ is offered (Eucharist). Where the Lamb appears, he is not given up as a sacrifice, but as one who prevailed and is worthy to open the seals. Scott want's to place the Mass as symbolism for the book of Revelation, and frankly it does not fit. The New Testament tells us that the Lamb was offered once and that is final. Heb 7:27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself. Heb 9:12 he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
The one sacrifice of Christ culminates in eternal glory, because "Christ holds his priesthood forever." Heb 7:26. So you can't repeat what does not have an end. He is the lamb in heaven "looking as though He had been slain." Rev 5:6
But Dr. Scott Hahn whom I greatly respect; are Roman Catholics stuck on the forms of Christianity instead of the substance - i.e. the living out of your faith through the Word instead monotonous of canned rituals? After all, forms of Christianity or biblical truths are not virtues in themselves unless we act upon them as a lifestyle.
They put warning on cigarettes, yet it seems that every Catholic video should have a similar disclaimer, "Warning: Deadly apostate teaching may affect your standing with Christ on judgment day." Oh wait! The Catholic church is infallible. Let's not compare her doctrine with the words of Christ? I trow not! The gospel is so simple! Friendship with God broken by sin; friendship with God restored through the Cross. It is written, "This is eternal life, that you know God and Jesus Christ Whom He has sent." It is all about a genuine meeting with God! Conversely, to those condemned, Christ will say, "Depart from Me; I never knew you." Yet, Christ's teaching, "Ask and you shall receive" is much too simple for Catholics, They believe that, to know Christ, you must be baptized. They also believe that Christ is a piece of bread. I can understand the confusion, as Christ, referring to a loaf of bread, said, "This is my body." Yet, Christ also said that He is the great Shepherd, the chief cornerstone, and a vine. Nonetheless, I do not think God is angry if a person believes the wafer is the actual body of Christ. I can totally understand the confusion around the eucharist. What I cannot understand is the disgusting dishonesty I have experienced from every Catholic I have conversed with centered around the words of Christ. For example, Jesus said, "My Father will give the Holy Spirit to whoever asks of Him (Luke 11.13)." By asking, not by eating! That is, where the wheels fall off the wagon is the Catholic teaching that, to receive the Holy Spirit, you must partake of communion - thereby contradicting the words of Christ! When confronted with this contradiction to the words of eternal life, giving an estimate to percentages, I would say that 95% of Catholics simply turn away. They may read a post like this, but they place their trust, not in the Lord, but in the church leadership of Rome. However, Jesus said, "Shall the blind lead the blind? I tell you that both will fall into a ditch." Of the remaining 5% who contradict the Lord, I would say that 3% will present Bible verses that, supposedly, contradict Luke 11.13. That is, they present their Bible verses and say, "Why did you pick out that one verse? You have to look at the whole of the Bible." Well, practice what you preach! Look at Luke 11.13! What are you saying that it means? A sub-group within this category are those who claim that the church at Rome is infallible, again, placing trust in people rather than the Lord. Which leads me to the 1.99% who claim that 'asking' is the same thing as 'being baptized.' For example, I bring up Romans 10.13, "Whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved." Notice it says 'call' not 'baptize' and you will be saved? Yet, the reply is that 'call' MEANS 'baptism!' Does that really work? Is it proper to say, "I thought of an old friend, so I thought I would give him a baptism (i.e. call)." Obviously, baptism is baptism and a call is a call. The last 0.01 percent is the one Catholic who, with blasphemous boldness, stated, "It is not true that whoever calls upon the Name of the Lord shall be saved." To her credit, she did not bob and weave, dodge, nor run! I just pray for her, that the Lord will help her - and all the other dishonest Catholics, literally hundreds, perhaps thousands, who have read my numerous posts, yet despised the words of Christ in favor of the Catholic heresy. I pray that God will cause Catholics to 'cling to what is true,' that they won't ignore the words of Christ, "My Father will (indeed!) give the Holy Spirit to whoever asks of Him." It is 'ask and you shall receive," not, "be sprinkled with water, eat a wafer, and you shall receive" I hope that people will trust in Christ's words and be saved! Jesus Christ is the light of the world.
Watching you describe when you first saw the eucharist, it suddenly hit me that humans are so incredibly desperate to worship that which they can see and feel, that they are willing to bow down to a wafer and some wine. How Blasphemous. There is such a veil over your hearts on this issue. Jesus IS present in communion, but that doesn't mean He ACTUALLY BECOMES bread and wine... or rather, that the bread and wine somehow becomes Him.
I beg to differ. The Mass does not exist in Sacred Scripture. Christ's perfect sacrifice was once for all. "Every priest stands daily ministering and offering time after time the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins; but He, having offered one sacrifice for sins for all time, sat down at the right hand of God , waiting from that time onward until His enemies be made a footstool for His feet . For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified." Hebrews 10:11-14 His perfect sacrifice is sufficient. "It is finished."
Right. With out the shedding of blood, there is no remission of sins. Mass is called an unboody Sacrifice Catholics read your Bible, see how it contradicts Catholic doctrine. God bless tony
THe Mass does not resacrifice Jesus it is always the one Sacrifice on Calvary represented. Read 1Corinthians 11:23-32 For as OFTEN as you do this, you proclaim the death of the Lord until He Comes. LUKe 24 at Emmaus, Jesus celebrates Mass again with Clopas and the other disciple. & Acts 2:42, Jn 6:54-57 1 Cor:10-17
hi Anthony Higgins, that’s your fallible and false interpretation of sacred scripture. Yes,Mary needed a Savior but Jesus freed his beautiful and Immaculate mum ahead of time. The sad thing is my friend is you read scripture you don’t see or absorb it. What did the archangel Gabriel say to her? Also how would you react if an angel appeared to you? I’ll wait for your answer before I more or less correct what you say. His Holiness St Pius IX,defines Mary as the Immaculate conception who are you to deny it. It’s one of four infallibly defined dogmas of Our Lady. Very sadly you prefer a man made cult to the mystical body of Christ on earth the holy Catholic Church. God bless. Praise Jesus and Mary always!!!
It's clearly a metaphor, 'This do in REMEMBRANCE of me', not physically consuming human flesh and blood. No wonder Martin Luther left. How do you convert from being a CHRISTIAN to being a catholic? Why the obsession with being catholic instead simply being a christian?
@John G. John, The ones who abandoned Jesus did not think it was a metaphor when they said the Following in: JOHN 6:52 52. The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” But Jesus did NOT change His doctrine, continuing with greater emphasis to reassert His teaching: JOHN 6:53-55 53. So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have NO life in you; 54. he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has Eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55. For my flesh is FOOD INDEED, and my blood is drink indeed. Jesus showed His Disciples how He would make it possible for them to "Eat His Flesh and drink His Blood" in: ▪︎LUKE 22:17-20 17. And when He had taken a cup and GIVEN THANKS (eucharistēsas in Greek), He said, “Take this and share it among yourselves; 18. for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.” 19. And when He had taken some bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “THIS IS MY BODY which is given for you; *DO THIS in remembrance of Me.” 20. And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup which is poured out for you IS THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD. And St. Paul further emphasizes his belief in: ▪︎1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-29 23. For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of BREAD, 24. and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “THIS IS MY BODY that is for you. DO THIS in remembrance of me.” 25. In the same way he took THE CUP also, after supper, saying, “THIS CUP is the NEW COVENANT in MY BLOOD. DO THIS, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.” 26. For AS OFTEN as you eat this bread and drink the cup, YOU PROCLAIM THE LORD’s DEATH until he comes. 27. WHOEVER, therefore, eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an UNWORTHY MANNER will be answerable for the BODY and BLOOD of THE LORD. 28. Examine yourselves, and only then eat of the bread and drink of the cup. 29. For all who eat and drink WITHOUT DISCERNING THE BODY, eat and drink JUDGMENT AGAINST THEMSELVES. beyond the Apostles: ST. IGNATIUS OF ANTIOCH. In the early Church, 10 years after the Apostle John's death, one of his disciples, Ignatius the Bishop of Antioch, clearly believed in the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist. He so states it in letters written around A.D. 107. ▪︎Letter to Smyrneans A.D. 107 "They [the Docetists, early Christological heretics] abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the EUCHARIST is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, flesh which suffered for our sins and which that Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes". ▪︎Letter to the Romans A.D. 110 "I have no taste for corruptible food nor for the pleasures of this life. I desire the bread of God, which is the FLESH OF JESUS CHRIST, who was of the seed of David; and FOR DRINK I desire HIS BLOOD, which is love incorruptible". Beginnings of Transubstantiation type of language in 145AD: ▪︎JUSTIN MARTYR. Christian apologist, born at Flavia Neapolis, about A.D 100, converted to Christianity about A.D. 130, taught and defended the Christian religion in Asia Minor and at Rome, where he suffered martyrdom about the year 165. ▪︎1st. Apology #66 A. D. 145 For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Savior, having been made flesh by the word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise HAVE WE BEEN TAUGHT that the food which is blessed by the prayer of his word, and from which our blood and flesh by TRANSMUTATION (Early Church concept, later refined at Trent) are nourished, IS THE FLESH AND BLOOD OF that JESUS who was made flesh. For the apostles, in the memoirs composed by them, which are called Gospels, have thus delivered unto us what was enjoined upon them; that Jesus took bread, and when he had given thanks, said, “This do in remembrance of me, this is my body;” and that, after the same manner, having taken the cup and given thanks, he said, “This is my blood;” and gave it to them alone. May God bless your discernment.
If you can believe that God became man in the flesh in order to be close to the man then why can't He become bread to be close to everyone anywhere in the world across the centuries... The shadow of the Eucharist as the supernatural food is the manna that the Isrealites will eat to get to the promise land whi check for Catholics is the Heaven, United with God forever.... Christ won't allow people to misunderstod ...how can the Good Shepherd not care to loose the same people whom he felt compassion for and fed miraculously which was to bolster them for what was coming.... The hard teaching made the crowds stopped following Christ and Christ uncharactistically didn't try to explain it better to the apostles as He did with hard parables....He turned to them to know if they too weren't cool with eating His Body and drinking His Blood....
How can a metaphor make some early believers fall sick and even die? 1 Cor 11: 17-30. This captures what happened in the gathering of Christains in the early church. St Paul clearly captures it: He who eats the bread unworthily is guilty of winning against the Body of Christ? I do not know how else you wanted Christ to say it again regarding His plan to be th e New Manna that will nourish the New Isreal to the everlasting Promise land... Christ fulfils every part of the Old testament
I have been Catholic since birth but I haven't heard this clear explanation about the Eucharist. Scott Hahn and other Protestant converts like him are the modern day heroes of Catholic church.

_'I have been Catholic since birth....'_ - you can still be healed and become Christian!

I wish there had been more takeaways from such a long presentation. I really want to be able to recognize scripture in every word of the mass and see step-by-step how it relates to the Passover, etc. Was hoping this presentation would give more scripture and less personal testimony (because come on, everyone who has heard anything by Hahn knows his story).

he certainly is gifted in speech, but sadly not teaching Truth.
@@tony1685 oh tony the 7th day Adventist teaching us truth - you are really gifted.
@@loveisaiah622 actually it's the Bible that shows us what Truth is. notice:
1 - Jesus Christ IS Truth - John 14:6
2 - Thy Word IS Truth - John 17:17
3 - Thy Commandments ARE Truth - Psalm 119:142,151
so if your 'church' doesn't uphold and follow His Word and His Ten Commandments, then it's obviously not His church - see 1 Tim 3:15
this is elementary knowledge and reasoning my friend. please try to keep up or you'll remain lost all your life.
Thank you Dr Scott Hahn for the wonderful talk about the Mass. Following you from the Fiji Islands. God bless you.

“IT IS FINISHED.”
There is nothing more to do.
Jesus never said to build altars and tabernacles and re-offer, re-represent him in a ritual
No apostle ever mentioned a mass, or eucharist.
@suzannemcmaken4648 the apostles did mention the sacrifice of the eucharist, read the didache

@@janeevens Peter doesn't agree with much of what you've been brainwashed with. Peter says no such thing about the bible.
The Church Fathers DID NOT ALL preach Transubstantiation. Some preached the symbolic and metaphoric nature of it:
“Elsewhere the Lord, in the Gospel according to John, brought this out by symbols, when He said: ‘Eat ye my flesh, and drink my blood,’ describing distinctly by metaphor the drinkable properties of faith and the promise, (Clement of Alexandria, 150-215 AD, The Instructor, 1:6)
“And He blessed the wine, saying, ‘Take, drink: this is my blood’ - the blood of the vine. He figuratively calls the Word ‘shed for many, for the remission of sins’ - the holy stream of gladness.’” (Clement of Alexandria, 150-215 AD, The Instructor, 2:2)
“…nor the bread by which he represents his own proper body, thus requiring in his very sacraments the ‘beggarly elements’ of the Creator,” (Tertullian, 155-220 AD, Against Marcion, 1:14).
First, he discusses its symbolic value:
Elsewhere the Lord, in the Gospel according to John, brought this out by symbols, when he said: Eat my flesh, and drink my blood; John 6:34 describing distinctly by metaphor the drinkable properties of faith and the promise, by means of which the Church, like a human being consisting of many members, is refreshed and grows, is welded together and compacted of both - of faith, which is the body, and of hope, which is the soul; as also the Lord of flesh and blood.
Later in the same chapter, he affirms the Real Presence:
Eat my flesh, he says, and drink my blood (John 6:53-5).
@@iggyantioch Protestantism hasn't traditionally denied Real Presence in the Eucharist. It has denied the full-on Transubstantiationism.
Because! Look at those 3 miracles he performed in front of the eyes of all those people!
well since sacred scripture ended in the 1st century, and the eucharist was not fully practiced until the 12th century or later, we do indeed have a problem, don't we scott?
hahn, what part of scripture is not sacred?
If you like about Dr Han listen to Chris Alar explaining the faith fr.chris alar also borrowed some common ground info from Dr Han
Peter proclaimed the risen Jesus, water baptism is same sign as apostle Paul taught.
The USCCB has a list of the Scripture quotations found in the Mass
hi Anthony Higgins, please read 1Peter4:11-15. And Colossians 24. No. Nobody is allowed to communicate this. That's the thing. I abstained for 3-4 years, it is possible. ;)
Heb 7:27
Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
Heb 9:12
he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us.
The one sacrifice of Christ culminates in eternal glory, because "Christ holds his priesthood forever." Heb 7:26. So you can't repeat what does not have an end. He is the lamb in heaven "looking as though He had been slain." Rev 5:6
These men are Satan's greatest deceivers of the lost.
This one is a true wolf in sheep clothing.
hey hahn, the roman catholic church did not even practice a full mass until the 13th century or later.
@@po18guy Yes, I know the stats are dismal....
Conversely, to those condemned, Christ will say, "Depart from Me; I never knew you."
Yet, Christ's teaching, "Ask and you shall receive" is much too simple for Catholics, They believe that, to know Christ, you must be baptized.
I tell you that both will fall into a ditch."
Of the remaining 5% who contradict the Lord, I would say that 3% will present Bible verses that, supposedly, contradict Luke 11.13.
I pray that God will cause Catholics to 'cling to what is true,' that they won't ignore the words of Christ, "My Father will (indeed!) give the Holy Spirit to whoever asks of Him." It is 'ask and you shall receive," not, "be sprinkled with water, eat a wafer, and you shall receive"
I hope that people will trust in Christ's words and be saved!
Ironic, sir, Ironic.
For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified."
Hebrews 10:11-14
His perfect sacrifice is sufficient.
This man is a faults Prophet
Dr.Hahn is a genius. Cast off your pride and learn from him.
God bless.
HE is Preping the people of/in the RC church for the Anti-Christ in the faults Christ!
@@wayneshotlander such a pity you can not cast off your pride and *actually listen* to Dr.Hahn. You could learn so much.
@@Dienekes678 Satan too comes an angel of light ie as in the "free Masons" ANY thing out side of JESUS is all lies !
Protestantism is a lie
It's clearly a metaphor, 'This do in REMEMBRANCE of me', not physically consuming human flesh and blood. No wonder Martin Luther left. How do you convert from being a CHRISTIAN to being a catholic? Why the obsession with being catholic instead simply being a christian?
Read John 6 he says eat his bread and flesh 4-6 times
@John G.
John,
The ones who abandoned Jesus did not think it was a metaphor when they said the Following in:
JOHN 6:52
52. The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?”
But Jesus did NOT change His doctrine, continuing with greater emphasis to reassert His teaching:
JOHN 6:53-55
53. So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of man and drink his blood, you have NO life in you;
54. he who eats my flesh and drinks my blood has Eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day.
55. For my flesh is FOOD INDEED, and my blood is drink indeed.
Jesus showed His Disciples how He would make it possible for them to "Eat His Flesh and drink His Blood" in:
▪︎LUKE 22:17-20
17. And when He had taken a cup and GIVEN THANKS (eucharistēsas in Greek), He said,
“Take this and share it among yourselves;
18. for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.”
19. And when He had taken some
bread and given thanks, He broke it and gave it to them, saying, “THIS IS MY BODY which is given for you; *DO THIS in remembrance of Me.”
20. And in the same way He took the cup after they had eaten, saying,
“This cup which is poured out for you IS THE NEW COVENANT IN MY BLOOD.
And St. Paul further emphasizes his belief in:
▪︎1 CORINTHIANS 11:23-29
23. For I received from the Lord what I also handed on to you, that the Lord Jesus on the night when he was betrayed took a loaf of BREAD,
24. and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “THIS IS MY BODY that is for you. DO THIS in remembrance of me.”
25. In the same way he took THE CUP also, after supper, saying, “THIS CUP is the NEW COVENANT in MY BLOOD. DO THIS, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of me.”
29. For all who eat and drink WITHOUT DISCERNING THE BODY, eat and drink JUDGMENT AGAINST THEMSELVES.
beyond the Apostles:
ST.
"They [the Docetists, early Christological heretics] abstain from the Eucharist and from prayer because they do not confess that the EUCHARIST is the flesh of our Savior Jesus Christ, flesh which suffered for our sins and which that Father, in his goodness, raised up again. They who deny the gift of God are perishing in their disputes".
▪︎Letter to the Romans A.D. 110
"I have no taste for corruptible food nor for the pleasures of this life. I desire the bread of God, which is the FLESH OF JESUS CHRIST, who was of the seed of David; and FOR DRINK I desire HIS BLOOD, which is love incorruptible".
Beginnings of Transubstantiation type of language in 145AD:
▪︎JUSTIN MARTYR.
Christian apologist, born at Flavia Neapolis, about A.D 100, converted to
Christianity about A.D. 130, taught and defended the Christian religion in Asia Minor and at Rome, where he suffered
martyrdom about the year 165.
▪︎1st. Apology #66 A. D. 145
For not as common bread and common drink do we receive these; but in like manner as Jesus Christ our Savior, having been made flesh by the word of God, had both flesh and blood for our salvation, so likewise HAVE WE BEEN TAUGHT that the food which is blessed by the prayer of his word, and from which our blood and flesh by TRANSMUTATION (Early Church concept, later refined at Trent) are nourished, IS THE FLESH AND BLOOD OF that JESUS who was made flesh.
