Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Soren Baker - you are a true hip hop head! An archeologist of the real shit, the best underdog rappers. You fire off these questions about production and recording techniques from back in the day!
Schooly D ! I tried to see you perform live in Norman ,OK 1989 with Fishbone but wasn’t able to get in. I remember the Beastie Boys were cutting and scratching the PSK record in a huge arena in 1987 it was unreal sounding! I dig the Welcome to America album with some great live instruments and band

Abel Ferrara was a filmmaker who did some classic real “Grindhouse” movies that definitely inspired me..the rape/revenge flick “Ms.45” could never be made today , it would be cancelled, same with his debut “Driller Killer” it’s just a gnarly little film using the porn theatre infested 42nd Street NYC circa 1982. I describe it as “Grimy”!

This is a great interview. Among other things I learned from it is what a multi-talented defiant creative spirit Schoolly was from the very beginning. For him hitting his rhymes was of secondary importance to musical innovation and the plastic/visual arts. And his experimentation with proto-gangsta lyrics was a decided anti-sellout move, years before it became the commercially opportunistic thing to do. It's also notable how much Schoolly embodies the DIY spirt of early hip hop. I'll buy the Soren Baker book.
