Here's what some icons have to say about the book!!!
Ice-T: "Respect to Soren Baker for documenting the history of gangster rap in these pages. Some hate it. Some love it. But you can’t deny its brutal, hardcore honesty."
The D.O.C.: "History has so often been written by the victors, that you very rarely ever get the real story behind anything. So it’s really important to hear from the people that were there, which is exactly what Soren Baker shares in this book. He writes about it and he’s honest about it."
Xzibit: "Hip-hop changed the world. Gangster rap changed the narrative, and then changed the world again. Soren Baker has been a very integral part of documenting hip-hop on the West Coast for as long as I can remember. I don’t think anybody is more qualified to write this book."
Leslie “Big Lez” Segar: "Soren Baker has changed the perspective of gangster rap by putting his pen to paper. He has given hip-hop power, proven its potential, and made non-believers contemplate all of its possibilities. The truth in his writing leaves no stone unturned, something he's done again with The History of Gangster Rap. Soren doesn’t just champion hip-hop. He also reveals its flaws and its truths."

Thats why G Funk was so successful. The Live Instrumentation played a huge role for sure. The keyboards, the drum machine, piano, chords, strings, bassline, the moog synths. Man what A time.
I agreeeeeee!!!!!
You said it, StayViben. The music is incredible. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Likewise, A Ja. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Westcoast standards, yes. No offense. But I wasn't a big fan of G funk. However, Warren G Regulate was completely amazing
I was talking with a friend. Of all the guys who worked with Dr. Dre. That claimed "they were the ones who did the beat. Dre didn't do it." Either a)never put out anything as good as when they produced with Dr. Dre. Or b) never heard from again. Chris The Glove is the only one to never bad mouth Dr. Dre or say he did this or that and never got credit. That means Dr. Dre never did wrong NY him. Chris The Glove is a solid guy.
Soren is definitely not a culture vulture like djvald. It’s just nice to come to this channel and get pure hip hop discussions. Especially from ppl we’ve rarely seen. But are key players.
We appreciate that, macc redd. It's great having #SorenBaker on the team. As you can tell, he loves hip-hop. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, as always.
Had the pleasure of working with Chris in 1986 when he produced a tune on me with Lloyd Tolbert. Later Lloyd and I wrote a tune called “I Like It Like That “ which ended up on the Coming To America soundtrack with me as an artist on the album. I was a DJ in LA as well which is how I met Chris. Cool dude. Great to see him here.
This may be the new, more authentic VLAD channel
Agreed! Way better! Except Soren is a real journalist & hip hop head!
That's because they focus on the music and not the drama
Thats an insult to even compare him to Vlod
I agreed
Soren is 1 million times better than vlad,
Soren's interviews are real music history lessons, vlad is just an interrogator for the fbi
Awesome! I always love hearing the stories of Dr Dre's co-producers, musicians and singers. There are so many people who worked under Dre who I would like (or would have liked) to hear more from: Sam Sneed, Emanuel Dean (R.I.P.), Mel-Man, Focus, Colin Wolfe, Nanci Fletcher just to name a few
I remember Wolfe from Atlanta. doesn't get more talented and kool than him.
Thank you for even knowing that we exist ❤️
Can’t forget Greg The Manipulator Royal. He’s not mentioned a lot but he was an integral part of that scene as well.
@Fuck You Khalil used to sit behind me in psych class at Morehouse. He wouldn't say much, unless it was music related. 😄
His partner Chace Infinite was at Morris Brown at the time. He was one of the illest battle rappers I've ever heard live.
@@christheglove so underrated in my opinion. Thank you very much for everything you continue to do
The production on that first po’ broke and lonely album was top notch.
You said it, Marvin Battle Jr. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt. Please be sure to subscribe if you haven't already.
So he did the bassline on puffin on blunts and drinking tanqueray? Wow..definitely one of my favorites
That was My Favorite Death Row Jam ever.
@Gangsta Macc oh yea I know..that song is still in my rotation

Indeed, Gangsta Macc. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
The production, the writing and the musical concepts of records like The Chronic and DoggyStyle changed the way I produced and listened to Hip Hop for years after that. The brother dropped a real gem at 17:39. Much respect to Chris "The Glove" Taylor.

Is this the same Glove from the 80ies? If so I’ve seen him live! Amazing DJ.
I went to a party once when I was a youngster and saw the Glove DJ and this dude was the best I’ve ever seen live!
I literally watched him mix and transform on those 1200 turntables the whole party.
That's the one, Steven Robinson. He's incredible. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
This is the best hip hop channel I've come across, really informative. I have a greater respect for Dr Dre now, Salute 💯
We appreciate that, Dr OG Ramadan Johnson. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
Can't even tell you how excited I was when I found this. Btw Puffin' On Blunts might be my favourite, just straight up raw Hip Hop instrumental ever.

And....that's what separates me from a lotta my peers now. I make beats with actual drums and warp them to sound like an 808 or a trap snare. I also make my own brake beats. I'm a jazz trained musician who plays 4 instruments to make trap music not a producer who pays for loops and samples. I make my own original loops.
Me too ✋🏿

Absolutely
He made the thinking of Dre having all these collaborators make sense. I see why it's hard for Dre to put music out, so many options.

@@UniqueAccessEnt much love bro, it go’s way way deeper. Part of Crooked’s COB but an original member with Horseshoe, Yac (from doggy’s abgels) & Sauce (crook’s cousin). And was introduced to Crook by Big C-Style about 15 years ago, but he brought Snoop to us in Portland bacc when they were making The Chronic. So there’s a big DPG tie and with Crook. & I know you know your shit and history, so that being said you know who Big Style is I’m sure, he pushed Snoop out in the wheelchair at the awards. Turned into the dog in Whats My Name. So ya, Bad Azz was my guy (ty-cuzz/lil c- style discovered badd azz) Lil Half Dead is, Goldie Loc. These are all guys I worked with & did songs with. But again much respect to you, you don’t need my history, your the WestCoast historian!! With NO Cultural Vulture in you cuzz!!💯💙
Appreciate that, DEADENDJP. Great history right there, too. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, as always.
Yep! Dr. Dre is the greatest producer in hip hop.
Great for sure.... but the greatest ???
Dre. had a lot of help and jacked a good amount of styles. There are greater and more important producers for sure.
@@HRDRZ name a west coast producer more important than Dr. Dre
@@TCfromSC he is definitely the greatest and most important "WEST COAST" or "G-Funk" producer. But G-Funk is super simple to produce and is more like a commercial jingle. Yeah he came up with some catchy tunes, but did he paint the Sistine Chapel? Not really 🤷♂️
@@TCfromSC Quik, Battlecat, EASKI to name a few
Gotta respect this brother accolades and what he been apart of but he sound just a little bitter to the younger generation.
Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, DJ Cutz.
Thank u. Streaming ain't shiz but a rip off
Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt, BIGG MIXX.
Dr dre in his heyday which was from nwa to the chronic ONLY! Was sonically different and fresh which is why his production stood out! But the biggest overlooked aspect of career is that he HAD A LOT OF HELP! which he took credit for! Secondly he was really just a off shoot of the 70s and 80s primarily funk groups combined! He didn't do anything revolutionary! He just advantage of the genius of rap music which is there's no boundaries of what you can do! JUST like the rza he brought in New samples and flip them to make them dope productions!
Hmmmm... 🤔 If that’s the case.. No hip hop producers did anything “revolutionary.” Like Grand Master Caz stated “Rap didn’t invent anything” ... “It reinvented” That’s what Hip Hop music is.. A different spin on the music of past generations... True production lies in the ears. The ability to hear when something will work for it’s intended purpose. Not the ability to play an instrument or program a drum machine. His genius is that he realized he couldn’t do it all. So he hired others to fill in the gaps. Rarely does anyone do anything without the help of others. The credit he takes is for being the producer. Which he was. Even if he didn’t actually play the baseline etc...
We love that period of Dr. Dre's material, mo hill. He's definitely had a lot of help. But none of that negates the incredible & consistent quality of his work. Thanks for watching & supporting #UniqueAccessEnt.
