Amazing, thanks for the in-depth tutorial! Was contemplating getting an ipad for my teaching as my surface has crapped out. Good to know I can have the same capabilities on an ipad.
The one caveat is that the iPad app has substantially less functionality than the desktop app. As an example, an iPad user can't share sounds coming from their iPad.
@@danielm9463 ah interesting. Thanks for the tip! I guess that would only be a big deal if I wanted to record a lesson with a video at some point in there.
Hello Daniel, Thank you very much for this video. I tried it for the first time this morning and it worked! I can now share my screen at last in Teams meetings. Thanks again.
Yes! The record button is the only way to share one's screen. When an iPad user follows the steps in this video, they only share their iPad screen and they do not make any recording. To my knowledge, it's impossible to simultaneously share one's iPad screen and create a screen recording on the iPad. I believe the Teams app is simply co-opting the iPad's native recording functionality in order to make the screen sharing possible in the first place. Of course, Teams still has its own recording capability, and depending on your global settings, an iPad user may be able to click the record button and initiate a recording of the video call (which gets saved to Microsoft Stream).
Thanks for this video! Question: When using this setting, does it tell the other participants you are recording the call? I understand it is not really creating a recording, but we aren't allowed to record in my district and I don't want my students to get confused. Thanks!
Makes total sense! When one student is sharing their screen, the other students on the call will *not* see that same red record button that appears when someone actually starts recording the video. Good luck!
This is amazing, but if I am playing a video with the sound on my iPad up all the way will the mic pick up the audio that way? I know there is no share system audio button but I thought that maybe if the mic works it would pick up all of the sounds the same as if I was talking. Just an idea, and I'll be testing that with one of my colleagues to see if it works in case you don't see this to answer in time.
Great demo thanks Daniel! While broadcasting - the iPad is recording a movie file yes? Do you have the same? I find it strange that I need to record the screen, just to share.
Great question! If you click and hold the record button and then choose Microsoft Teams, then the screen "recording" (if we can still call it that) doesn't get saved as a video file on the iPad--the "recording" simply gets streamed to the Microsoft Teams app. By contrast, if we click and hold the record button and then choose Camera Roll, then the recording is saved as a video file in the Camera Roll. I would guess that Microsoft Teams is simply leveraging the iPad's native "screen record" functionality (which is called "screen record" because its original purpose when built into the iPad was to make videos of one's iPad screen) because it's the only way to capture what's happening on the iPad screen. But instead of saving a video file, Teams is sending the "recording" to the Internet and streaming it to the video meeting.
To record from an iPad, you click the 3 dots from the main toolbar, and then click the 'record' button. An organization can disable this feature, though, for groups of users.
How do I share screen and also share my video at the same time in MS Teams? I noticed that it auto-turns off my video when sharing in ipad/ ipad pro. Hope someone can help
Did you read on Microsoft that it's an automatic option? The last I checked, the Teams app did not offer this functionality of sharing system audio on the iPad when using the Teams app.
Even though it's the 'record' button, you're not actually recording anything. Teams uses the native 'record' feature to capture the screen and send it to the Teams call. When sharing your screen in Teams, a recording isn't being made on the iPad. (Of course, the Teams app has its own separate record button from the main toolbar when in a video call. As long as the system admin hasn't turned off permission, anyone on the call can push that button at any time during a call. But this record feature is not triggered automatically to turn on when you start sharing your screen.)
Unfortunately, no. Microsoft hasn't built that functionality for the iPad Teams app (or maybe that functionality isn't possible since Teams is already streaming microphone audio from the iPad to the call).
Good video. The only thing missing is how to present a PowerPoint (PPT) presentation. The issue is that when you tap on the button to begin a PPT Slideshow, it wants to quit sharing the screen with Microsoft Teams. The only way a PPT can be viewed during a screen sharing session is to have the "creator view" on a PPT. That is where you an see the thumbnails of each page and the large preview on the right. No bueno. Please help if you know how to do this.
I tried all the steps the audio of my palying video on microsoft teams is not working ! the video appeares without sound .!? I mean if i want to share a video with others on team!?
When you share your screen, you are not able to share the device/iPad sounds with the Teams call. Unfortunately, this functionality is not built into the Teams app. So if you share your iPad screen and then play an iPad video, you cannot also share the video's sound/audio with the Teams call.
I selected start broadcast and my screen is showing:live broadcast to microsoft teams has stopped due to you're not in a call or meeting. start one to share your screen. Can you help me with this
You can only share your screen to Teams after you have started a video call/video meeting in Microsoft Teams. It sounds like you're going to the Control Center and clicking the screen record button before you start any Teams call/meeting. You have to click that button after joining a call or meeting in Teams.
@@danielm9463 Tried that and it didn't work. My coworker couldn't hear the background music that I could hear in my headset when the screen was shared.
@@lewiscalderon2332 I haven't been able to, unfortunately. Looks like it's pretty ubiquitous though, and probably is a feature that just hasn't been engineered by Microsoft yet. Many features available on the PC aren't available on the iPad, unfortunately.

That's a great question. If you are in a Teams call on the iPad, and then you hit the home button and open a different app, then your camera turns off for everyone else watching the Teams call. Similarly, if you split your iPad screen between the Teams call and another app, your camera again turns off.
