    I'm so glad I got this system! I used both the regular Ken Onion and the Elite system. I was able to get great Extremely sharp blades! Every blade I was able to get a nice polished edge that I can dry shave with!!😎Definitely happy I got this whole system! I can finally put a nice edge on my big hunting and bushcraft knives without taking hours on stones. Plus my axes all got new nice razor sharp polished edges on them too! Great system! Glad I bought it! I'm set for life with the ability to sharpen ANYTHING! Not to mention shape knives, like putting 90 degree sharp spines on blades that need it!

    Great video!
    I sharpen my knives using the Tormek system but I can't use it on "convex" knives, do you recommend using this belt system?
    How long do the various tapes last?
    How long can you keep it on?
    Thanks so much.

    Very good video, this will help new users. I received my second Ken Onion Blade grinding system. My plan is to set up both on work bench. The coarser belts will be used on one and X-4 and stopping belts on second one. I will be doing this if sharpening multiple knives. If you use Allan key you can move back wheel up one hole for flat angle grind which would be similar what you get when sharpening on stones.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад +1

      Nice! Ive heard people say theres ways to get flat bevels with a couple tricks i mostly use it for grinding and for convex since i freehand flat edges, but great info

      @@NeevesKnives . Another modification you can make to the angle grinder is get 2 replacement leather strop -guided field sharpener. They would need to be cut to length, but two of them will fit on plate behind the 90 degree plate. With the the 2 leather strops which would be on behind belt makes It much better and consistent for doing 90 degree grinds.

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад

      @@robertdewalt8711 oh wait i think i seen that somewhere, your talking about the leather that goes on the little field sharpener right

    • @robertdewalt8711
      @robertdewalt8711 3 года назад

      @@NeevesKnives . Yes, the strips are about 13 mm wide. You would need to cut off about 24-25 mm from length of each strip, I have add the strips to both my angle grinders. Two of them fit very well on the plate behind 90 degree plate. On one of the Worksharp videos they talk about it and placed on their Angie grinder.

    Great video! What are your thoughts on S35VN on a chef's knife like that? They aren't typically made with such high-hardness steels. Notice any problems with chipping or similar?

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад

      I wouldnt really expect to see chipping but more rolling, and i would think that not having a high hrc might be good, since you chop on hard surfaces, the edge is more likely to roll and not chip, but in all honesty i didn't notice any rolling or chipping it seems to work great i was worried at first having such a sharp edge that i did freehand that it would chip, and so far nothing, since its not my knife i put this edge on it, that is stronger but not as sharp, so hopefully the owner get great results

    You said you get the burr with each belt, but you went to alternating strokes after the first belt. Are you getting a complete burr along the entire edge after just one pass on the second, third, etc. belts?

    • @NeevesKnives
      @NeevesKnives  3 года назад +1

      Sometimes yes i wasnt sharpening the same knife, some knives get a burr very fast especially if your using a low angle, when you lay the angle back and the bevel on the knife is high, then it takes more passes, if i match the amgle then its very fast

      personally i just use the grinder attachment mostly theres really no need to use the other one and i prefer the edges i get when i just freehand on the bigger belt

    on last belt, alternating sides. Never noticed burr after doing so.

    • @NeevesKnives

      Yes, you can wait till the last belt or stone to fully remove your burr, alternating sides, works on this if the edge is thin and its at a high ° you basically get a burr with every pass but if not then you want to make as many passses as it takes till you do

  • @jameshealy4594
    @jameshealy4594 3 года назад

    Hi mate, great video. One additional method I use is to attach a piece of belt backing to the aluminium piece below the top wheel (if that makes sense), between the metal and the back of the vertical section of belt. You can then use it to put on a V edge as it gives you a platen to grind against. Maintaining the angle is trickier but with a little practice, it's not difficult to learn. I use a cheap spring clamp to stop it moving around when using the attachment since the flat bottom gives you a surface. I also love the stiff belt kit they sell now, though I've had terrible luck with the strops - two packs and they all broke within a short time of use, I think I must be doing something wrong but no idea what. Thanks again for the video! Oh, one more tip, especially for anyone trying actual grinding - get some neodymium magnets to help control dust or use a dust extraction system, I killed one by steel dust being sucked into the motor and shorting it. Still love the system.
