Sunak was pressed in the interview by the ITV journalist Paul Brand to give examples of things he didn't have a child to which he replied: 'There’ll be all sorts of things that I would’ve wanted as a kid that I couldn’t have. Famously, Sky TV, so that was something that we never had growing up actually.'
Sunak defended his upbringing, however, arguing that he was raised to appreciate hard work: 'My parents worked very hard for what they had and they wanted their kids to have a better life'

Sky TV didn't come out until he was 8 years old, that's why he went without.
Are you saying he got it when he was 8?
@@AM2K2he went without Sky TV for a whole 8 years!
@@AM2K2 no, but I wouldn't put it past him to have had it from 8 and then still claim that he didn't have Sky TV growing up.

No one had Sky TV until 1989.
I was thinking this, and after checking I found he's only a year older than me. I thought he was in his 50s!
He was 8 then, so it is possible. Why can’t it be possible that he didn’t have Sky TV in his household when he was 8 and over 8? Am I missing something as everyone says it’s not possible.

@@user-tk7kz1fl2r sure that could be possible, but it's also possible that he's not being entirely honest.
Precisely, thank you, Ony. And it's hardly as if not having SkyTV is any kind of loss anyway. But you can bet he had everything else that was available back then. The guy is such a patronising w⚓r, or perhaps just plain ignorant... or both!🙄
As a child, Sunak went without Sky.
Meanwhile, under Sunak's watch, 4.3 million children are living in relative poverty and often go to school without food to eat
Okay but that’s not exactly his fault is it?

Duh, we are going without dentists!!!
Work full time & iv got a broken wisdom tooth, can't afford the tooth extraction
My dentist was Polish. She was brilliant, but I don't think she much enjoyed the awfulness of Brexit. She's gone now, and I don't blame her. I would rather live in the EU than not, too.

Making out you had it tough because your parents decided not to have sky for value reasons (he said his parents (GP and Pharmacy owner) put his education first and upbringing first) rather than denied TV through poverty is just gaslighting.
I bet they all have sky tv however……
How about working full time in public service and having to choose between eating and heating my home during winter? You have no idea and to use your example of having to go without Sky TV is yet another insult to your voting public!
Agree, I remember a colleague told me she never ate cake (given by patients family), as fast as I did. It was literally all I had to eat.
Then why don't you do better? I'm a football fan. Do I cry that my team have to choose between a new goalkeeper and a new striker?
I don't believe you work full time in public service and are forced to make that choice, unless you are making bad financial decisions.
It’s alright he’ll be gone soon
@user-SubvurzIV exactly well said
Sunak went without Sky Television. Children today still going to school hungry. No comparison is there!
Most of those children come from a "family" that prioritises smoking/drinking/drugs even TV services over food, that's why. I've been rock bottom, my kids went without, never have they been hungry. It's impossible in fact, wasn't any food banks helping me out either, still provided enough. Many disadvantaged parents (mostly single I may add) just don't have the capacity to be selfless.
No one's listening SUNAK , close the door on the way out .
I agree but you dont want labour either. We need a full 'start from scratch' no lobbying, no rich people fresh new beginning

He said they worked for it. Is no one allowed to be rich?
@@multivox_musik Don't bs people into thinking you didn't have a privileged upbringing. That is the point here.
Yes and that’s why they wouldn’t have Sky TV to be fair, it’s seen as ‘tacky’ and a way to entertain the working class. I couldn’t imagine many upper class families having cable TV back then tbh. No idea why he tries to pretend it was a sacrifice though.
Unironically, as a kid, you were impressed if a house had Sky TV. Even the remote was cool.
Some people just never grow up from that

Oh the deprivation 😱
Why does he look like he's trying not to laugh? 🤷🏼♀️
It might be because the default mode of the eye-wateringly rich is laughter.
Poor rushi so hard up bringing no sky tv, millions of people had nothing and he is whining how pathetic he needs to look around and see how hard it is for poor families
Aww, poor little Rishi went without Sky, how awful for him. How he must have suffered. People now who struggle to pay energy bills and could never afford Sky anyway, must be so sympathetic.
Oh no! No sky tv growing up thats terrible 😂 so out ot touch with reality.
If your doctor dad and chemist owner mum didn’t let you have sky then it wasn’t because you couldn’t afford it like most other family’s .
Sunak please be quiet. It's less embarrassing when you speak less.
His always on about his family and childhood stories 🤣🤣🤣
Worst. Origin. Story. Ever...
He left the D-Day Veterans for this.
Boo hoo what a poor deprived childhood. So out of touch like most politicians.

Aww poor little rich boy didn't get Sky TV . Luckily for him it didn't exist . I'm more concerned about kids today who don't get enough food , heat for housing . Sunak has never struggled . I wish we could all say the same for kids today .
Hope it was worth infuriating the whole country for this absolute car crash of an interview
My diet as a Child was Chip Butties every night! My mum would buy a sack of spuds and a loaf of bread and it would feed 4 hungry Kids every night! Bit of Salt and Ketchup and they were great! I bet Sunak wasn't fed on Chip Butties 😂😂
Poor Sunak, didn't even have a £700 backpack either while growing up, how did he manage??
Ever been in a social distancing queue at a supermarket Rishi? Your lot did that to us.
Actually it was the people above the Government who did that.
I didn't have Sky until I was 36, and prior to that I couldn't get channel 4 either
Tell me Sunak is only joking, please? 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔
His school uniforms were probably only made at one of the lower end Savile Row taylors. Oh the deprivation.
No Sky TV? That’s rough! Probably that’s what made him so tough!
Sky TV you must be joking. Totally out of touch for a person richer than the King

How about having to do without food or a decent roof over your head, what an absolute joke he is, he absolutely has no idea about the average man and woman and how for years and years they've lived their lives struggling massively.
Why does he assume most people on low incomes has Sky TV? It wasn't even around when he was a kid. I could tell him a few home truths about struggling if he'd care to listen.
Just say 'We never went without anything when I was a kid. I owe my parents a debt of gratitude for that and I am not ashamed that that is what they did for me. But now I want to ensure that all children can enjoy at least some of the privilege that I had."
It would be a bare faced lie but at least you wouldn't come across as a total plank. It is really not that hard Rishi.
Very well said 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
So much this. There's nothing inherently wrong with having a privileged upbringing so long as you're aware and open that you're privileged and that most people didn't enjoy what you did. Trying to be a "man of the people" when you're blatantly not just doesn't impress anyone.
I'm sure Rishi struggled. No satellite TV, he attended boarding schools did he not? No way of witching it if not staying at home most of the time. Maybe it was just a private school. Also one of his parents was a GP. Middle class income right away so not buying it was a hard knock life 😂
Sky TV didn't come out until he was 8 years old.
he had an education in boarding school that takes money and he said his parents had a corner shop so how did they afford that
He actually came from a billionaire family. They owned multiple shops
Too busy playing Polo to watch sky TV
I can see him now, on his Shetland pony.
F*king sobbing all the way to the air raid shelter
Clear evidence if ever you needed one for how out of touch the Tories are. People are going without necessities like food, clothing, heating, a place to live and he thinks forgoing Sky TV is comparable. They've brought us to our knees.
Even ignoring the sky tv opening date. There is a HUGE difference between growing up in poverty, having little to no options and growing up rich with the world at your feet but having frugal stereotypically-indian parents, but the rich will never understand this.
he has no idea what hard work is either
He went without sky TV to pay for education?
Translation: UK has free education. He went without sky TV to pay for a private school. Incredible.
His eyes are telling a story "leave me alone, why are you doing this to me, can you please stop, I feel uncomfortable"
Not a politician that Britain wants,
But certainly the politician that Britain deserves.
Unfortunately rishi sunak had to watch films in his personal cinema, as he couldn't afford sky TV
And I had to get a paper round / car wash / dog walk when I was 12. Not out of choice, because I had to pay towards the rent - because we had to pick between rent and food some days. I didn’t wish for sky tv, I just wanted my family to be able to live comfortably.
😂poor little Rishi went without a sky dishi.
He literraly went to the best private school in London and he’s acting like he had a really difficult poor childhood
Oh I was so poor.....we had not bread.... I had second rate clothes.... I at from the dust bin of the neighbours...
Really? No, but my advisor tells me to say these things....
I'm 52 years old . Growing up in my house my Dad worked 2 jobs 7 days a week. I didn't know what Sky TV was. My parents rented a small TV .
Sunak has no clue what it was like to live poor . Totally clueless .
My mum went without food at times so me and my siblings could eat.
He's painfully out of touch. The Tech Bro Mr Burns 💧
His father was doctor, mother a pharmaceutical professional. Grew up in a 6 bedroom house.
So by this statement, it is safe to assume he had Sky TV.
He is such a liar, can anyone else sense how nervous he becomes when asked what he went without and what had to be sacrificed? It took him ages to come up with something and then said Sky TV. It didn't exist back then when he was little but never thought of saying he went without food, a bath or heating. Said he emigrated here yet didn't say his mum and dad worked several jobs or did shift work so had to share duties and what not.
He makes me sick and he's not even ashamed of not being anywhere near a working class. He needs to be removed ASAP.
O bless him the poor fella ..that’s why he it taking in all the immigrants .he is doing his level best to destroy this country .
Many kids even nowadays dont have sky sir.

Absolutely despicable that that creep could become PM.
How hard he has had it without sky tv, it wasn't invented until the 1990s, pathetic
He’s got a business degree from Oxford. And here he is claiming he struggled. I would laugh if it didn’t make me so angry.
Nervous laugh = he's never done without anything in his life.

Why are you pretending to be poor Rishi?
It would be much easier if he just say "Yes, I admit I was born in a privileged background but I entered public service to help the less fortunate"
See, much better to say than pretend your poor.
He’s doing it on purpose now…he’ll be filmed on Friday evening outside a chippy somewhere, telling everyone he’s queuing for his weekly “beef and vegetable pastry, potato chips and meat sauce” before he goes to the pub for a “skinload of glasses of ale”…he’s having a cheekly laugh about it now.
You know, if he fasted and gave to charity he probably could have made it through this question without messing up.
Most people your age never had Sky TV growing up because it was never invented.
The laughter of relief he found an answer
Had to go without Sky TV...?
Is going without 'that' something he considered a hardship when he was a child?
When I think of the tears I shed for a child that only wanted the gift of being able to 'hold' a teddy bear for Christmas. Not 'have' a teddy bear, just hold one for Christmas Day. There was no thought in that child's mind for receiving an actual present, his parents were struggling to feed and keep a roof over the poor little mite as it was.
Going without Sky TV does not count as 'going without.' Food, heating, clothes, shoes - that's 'going without.'
So funny how passive, but persistent, questioning can unravel a politician in 30 seconds
We had a black and white tv when we were younger six of us altogether Until we got a coloured one. In my house we still don’t have sky tv.
