I was there for the singing in Helston in 2004 (visiting for Dehwelans). The singing of Trelawney for several hundred in the streets on Flora day was just awesome. I had never felt so much national pride in my life (Canadians can come close).

Cornwall doesn't have to be an independent state to be recognized as the U.K.'s fifth country alongside England, Wales, Scotland, and N'Iron. The song is 19th-century and was written in English; there are two Cornish versions, but they are translations. 99loki's right about the historical inaccuracies, but of course they don't really matter to the song.

They sensibly changed it to 20,000 Cornish folk in the 1970s when I was a kid, 'cause, really, to be fair, if that many Cornish people made it to London, then the women were there. Oh yes. I'm a Cornish woman, we were there alright.

That was very nice, as a non Brit I had no idea Cornwall has an anthem of its own. Shouldn't it be sung in Cornish though?

I am Cornish but i personally hate this anthem we need a new one soon which is more up to date and also more radical and more political in short we need an anthem to HIT HOME. this song is just old and quaint and not relevent anymore. time to change it...sorry folks but i do not sing it BUT I am very pro cornish. I am sure if i were Irish I would hate "danny boy" a similar type of song.
