I'm so glad the spatula-busk worked out! What's the most DIY solution you have had to come up with to get a project finished? Btw Subs will be edited ASAP :)
Paint stirring sticks as busks -- never carved one out of a spatula. I once had to turn a garter belt into a collar because it was the ONLY PIECE of CORRECT LACE I had.
Just came across your channel and love your videos! I so wish I had your amount of patience to do projects like this. Also hear you humming Jason Isbell Vampires at 11:34 😌
Small suggestion on your knife choice. Next time try a smaller blade. It's counterintuitive, I know, but a smaller blade will give you more control. I've been carving since I was a kid, so save yourself some band-aid time. If you find the wood to be a little slippery for your blade to have purchase, then try sanding it to roughen up the surface. Stays are in my future. Oh dear... Yours look amazing. Well done. - Cathy (&, accidently, Steve), Ottawa/Bytown/Pimisi
Thank you Cathy! I definitely need to get myself a little whittling knife, I used to have one as a kid but never brought it over when I moved. What kind of stays are you planning to make?
@@LiljaHusmo Yeah. It's always hard to know what to bring with you and what to leave. I've got a small, black, vintage Swiss Army knife on my keychain (in memory of my Dad and Granddad). They really will get you through most things. As for what pattern for stays - I'm only really starting to think about it. I'm hoping the Patterns of Fashion get their reprints together soon. It'll definitely be something out of PoF. Right now we're moving everything in our apartment around so I get a studio space and Mister Husband gets a home office (finally). After the dust literally settles I think I may be ready to go back to hacking the Red Threaded half-stays Regency pattern into something that will fit 38FF me. I started sewing just over a year and a half ago. Thought pattern manipulation was easy...
@@stevezytveld6585 That sounds like a great idea to have a small one to carry with you! I definitely recommend PoF5 which should be in print at the moment! It has All kinds of different stays. Exciting that you’re getting a studio space! I’ve taken over the dining table in our living room at the moment, hoping for a proper studio one day!
@@LiljaHusmo I've got my 1915 hand-crank Singer 99K on a set of those 6-drawer metal cabinets from Ikea. I put 4-way wheels on the bottom. The top drawer opens out to hold a cutting board so there's a sewing 'shelf'. The rest of my equipment gets stored in the drawers. Roll it out in front of the balcony window when I work. Roll it beside the sofa when I'm not. At this point I'm just excited by the idea of having a table again. We're trying to configure the furniture to 'room off' a decently large one-bedroom space. So the living room area will actually be a library/living room, office, studio, dining room. Hopeful thoughts would be appreciated at this point... laughing...

You can use your own saliva to get your blood out of the fabric. True story.
